Happy to have landed on this page and series .. I received a small pomegranate early this spring (Vancouver Canada) and was NOT told it wasn't acclimated to outdoors, so after a couple of weeks of putting it outside for progressive lengths of time, I left it out. All the leaves turned and it became a few twigs on a stump in a week. I saw how hard you hacked back the tree and I thought, "Well, it will either come back OR I need to find someone local with seeds." To my joy, both happened! I have 40 seeds germinating as we speak and one branch of the little tree is sending out shoots under my LED lights like nothing happened. Going to see where the little guy decides it wants to go, but for now, I'm looking towards an interesting shohin-styled pom for my 'accidental' group of trees. Thanks for the great advice and videos.
cheers, sounds like you have quite a few poms now hahah. thats a good place to be. you should check out the other video i have about the group of poms, where i am trying to fuse a handful of them together into 1 tree as i didnt have the space for so many after growing them all from seed
I can barely express how much joy I get from watching these 3 videos of yours. I've just subscribed and clicked the bell because I am looking forward to part 4 and I don't want to miss it. 😊
I love the character of the trunk. I cant believe how fast this thing grows...and how hard you can prune branches and roots 😱😱😱...obviously you know what you are doing consiglieri. Looking forward to it at year 10 when it has fruit dangling off it. 😎😎😎
Lol “and as expected, I completely butchered the roots.” Yup, that’s what we’ve all come to expect. No less. What a productive year. The tree really benefitted from letting it grow so wild.
It's superb how you did the work. I was actually thinking of doing a pomegranate bonsai after seeing your work I'll definitely gonna do so but I have a question if you can kindly answer pomegranate and henna plants leaf structure is quite similar so can I make a bonsai out of henna tree?
Cheers. I dont know anything about a henna plant, but you should try. Ive no idea if it will respond in the same way as a pomegranate but definitely give it a go and see what happens, it would be a very cool experiment for sure
just let it live outside. it will get cold enough in winter to do what it needs to do. even if its not as cold as other places, its still colder than the middle of summer. so the tree will know its time to relax
When you are putting the tree in the shed for the winter, how long do you keep it in there for and how much light does it get during that time? Thanks and love the channel!
Cheers. I put it in at the start of December and take it back out the end of February. (i could just leave it outside all year, but i like growing it under grow lights, that why its so fast) it gets day light from a north facing window in the shed, but that dosnt matter. its dormant and has no leaves. it could easily just sit in the dark. light isnt important at this point. I just want the cool temperature as it will not get this inside the house.
@@BackGardenBonsai Yep my pomegranate lives outside in the summer. I live in Calgary Canada, a very sunny city. It gets around 10 hours of direct light a day for the summer months. Is this too much?
Ah very good. I’d ask you to think about where these grow naturally. ...the Mediterranean. I have a feeling Calgary may be sunny, but not Mediterranean sunny? So I’m sure they will be fine.

Wow, this little guy is really super full of energies!!!
Cheers, yeah its a pretty aggressive grower

Cheers :) It will be a little while yet until part 4... but dont worry, plenty more videos of other trees to come before this update
After you showed the new growth after that root "pruning" it actually made me go "Wow!" in my head. Impressive and confident pruning :-)
haha cheers. It was pretty drastic, but if you do it at the right time you can get away with it

Cheers bro. It can certainly take a beating. lol

😁 yeah, nice work.
Pommies are great bonsai, and this one is looking really good. That severe root prune was a good plan, well essential for the small pot 🌳👍🏻
cheers, makes me wonder how thick the trunk would be if it had been in a big pot.
Very cool development man. So satisfying to watch!👌
cheers :)
Awesome growth on the tree, so much vigour!
Cheers. its crazy how fast it goes!
@@BackGardenBonsai yea even mine is growing a lot too indoors without good lights
Loving this series, im hoping youll keep it up. Thanks
Cheers. Thats the plan :) Its still going strong.
Wow that is a strong bonsai this is unbelievable ;)
Hard cutting of roots and branches :)
cheers, yeah its pretty strong lol. but so long as you do the right thing and the right time it can take it.
Great progression on this. Looks like the tough love on the roots did it a lot of good this Spring. Nice work!
Cheers bro, a bit of tough love never hurt anyone lol.
Wow! That is fantastic!
Cheers.Thank you
Nice pomegranate bro ! 👌
Cheers bro
awesome process

Do you have to have the plant go dormant, I live in Az and it’s hard to get a cool place

Good work...my friend👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
What soil mix do you use?
molar clay, perlite, compost. roughly equal parts, probably more molar though.
Very nice. Super
Thank you! Cheers!

@@BackGardenBonsai Thank you for the reply. My other question is, is too much sunlight bad for the tree?
What do you mean by too much sunlight ? Are your trees living outside and getting natural sunlight ?
