Our trip to the west highland way, showing some gorgeous scenery, varied kit. This trip was more about enjoying the country and landscapes, and the commaradery.
This is so relaxing ruclips.net/video/QbRxW4G9EYk/видео.html
What an adventure Shane, the beauty and unpredictability of a long walk...can't beat it. Hope you are all recovered now. Cheers. Jim.
Thanks kindly Jim. It was a great adventure, you couldn't have scripted it.
stunning River and Mountain views
Thank you very much cgriggsiv, for all your nice comments.
No problem keep up the great work I hope all your friends are well
Great video Shane. Sad I missed all that wonderful scenery!
Ta nick
Amazing scenery Shane. ....what a blast it must`ve been.
Thanks John. It was lovely
The walk along Loch Lomond is hard going and can be a bit soul destroying carrying a full rucksack. I found that the hardest part of the walk. After that though it opens up and the scenery gets more spectacular. I did it carrying a full heavy rucksack too. Next time I'll do it I will book ahead and get one of those firms to carry my luggage and take my time to view the scenery more.
Yes I agree, hard going along lomond with 50lb on ya back, but I quite enjoyed the slog.
Brilliant Shane. Tim sent me over via email and I'm glad I settled down to watch. I know them forest trails with the fresh air and vibrant smells are amazing...I love them. I can see why you did to. Lingered for a while - nice but some sad losses later. It would have been good to stay together...I know this one recently. A fabulous story full of the realities of life. Well cracking scenery as I continued to watch and to think the way got to you also Shane in the end but a great end I think. Loved it. All the best. Mark.
Many thanks Mark, yep, sure is a great trail, I'm sure I'll be going back sometime.
I hope so....great film and adventure.
Hi mark, when you say Tim sent you over by email, would it be ok to ask which Tim, only I know a few Tims. Many thanks matk
Yes, Tim Cuthbirt - the Tim on the video Shane. Hope this helps.

Thanks for such a brilliant compilation Shane. First time ever said hello in Scotland. And what a greeting it gave me back. The Scottish Highlands are stunningly beautiful, and vast ! Even the midges were polite to me ! I want to do Inveroran to Fort Billy. Fancy a quick stroll...?
Thanks Derek. Yeh, I'd like to go back to finish. I'm thinking autumn.
Brilliant video really enjoyed it mate well done to everyone hopefully you all finish the walk another time’ Loch Lomond And Glencoe are amazing places to visit 👍🏻

Many thanks spijkerpoes . Things didn't quite go our way, but still a great adventure.
A great adventure shane, such a shame 4 of you were taken ill and hope you all have recovered, on the plus side the scenery and views were stunning, what a beautiful place...atb...jeff.

Thank you Tony. It is beautiful there.
What an awesome trail! Never heard about it before. Thanks for introducing it to me. :-)
Hope you all have recovered!
Going to be in Oxford for a business tip next week. Hopefully I'll have a chance to explore the lands around it a bit as well. ;-)
Thank you Individuell Unterwegs. Hope you're trip goes well
You done really well for your first time on the WHW, unfortunately I was over on the Isle of Harris when you were up on your walk, I would have came down and spent some time with you, a bit of a last min thing going over to Harris but I did not want to miss the chance of going again, If you think your walk was amazing you should try the Western Isles. Glad you enjoyed your time and hope you'll come back again.
Many thanks shoogle, were up to near beauly in late September on a weeks chaga and mushroom hunt. Hopefully find some chanterelles as well, haven't yet. All the best shoog. Take care mate.
Great video, really enjoyed it.
Thank you, lovely up there
Great vid mate. Looking forward to doing the WHW myself in autumn 2018 🍂
Thank you Lee, you'll love it mate, it's a great adventure.
Excellent video of your journey Shane, pass on my good wishes to the rest of the gang too :) Superb scenery along the way, hopefully everyone has recovered from "the ailment" :) Cheers...........Les
Many thanks les, that's really thoughtful of you, thank you I will.
Nice video. Glad to have been able to help you guys out with transportation.
Hopefully will meet up again soon bud. Speak soon bro. Mark
Ta mark, and thanks again mate.
Well done all of you, the WHW is not easy, especially without training, I find if your carrying your gear them 10 mile a day is enjoyable, allow 12 days for your trip, you would finish it in 9 days but enjoy it, great effort guys, atb Derek
Thanks Derek, really nice up there, as you say, not easy, great to do it though.
Well, I’m 65 years old, and I can tell you that it is easily walked in less than a week. I did it in six days. 12 days would be what most people would call very leisurely. But the great thing about walking is that you choose your ow pace, and enjoy it the way you want to. No criticism at all. The most challenging is the shores of Loch Lomond, and then later on the devils staircase.
what was the weight of your backpack and items and what was the items you brought on the hike Saturday I did a day trip at the Buckeye Trails me and my friend we did 17 miles two bunch of swamp that wasn't even blazed very well if you want to call it bleeding my backpack was 34 lb my partner is 32 to 34 as well
cgriggsiv I think if my memory serves they were about 20-25kg about 44lb. I'm planning on going back next year on a solo trip, it's a amazing walk!
great video really enjoyed that thanks for sharing [know the red squirrell campsite in glencoe well] stunning area. thanks again take care lads....colin.
Many thanks Colin.
Hi Shane. I really enjoyed this vid and in April I'm going to do the West highland way as reason for April is that there be no midges and most tourists are not here yet. I'm sure you'll complete the walk with your friends. Have you got any tips and info that will help me? Tent I'm getting for the walk is the MSR bubba shield. One tip in video you gave is drink alot of water. I plan to take my time and take lots of photos with my smartphone. What's the prices like at the hotels and youth hostels along the way? I have time to prepare for the walk by going into gym and doing plenty of walking. Thanks for this video!
One tip, try to get your water away from the trail. With so many hiking this trail poohing and weeing near to the trail, it’s risky. Use the faster running Brooks and streams as well. Tent sound good. Be careful along Loch Lomond as well. It’s starts ok, but the second part of the hike along the loch can be a little sketchy. Just a little further bienglass camp site is a good place to stop. Hope you have a great time.
fabulous film, very enjoyable the voice over and score are very good indeed. A big thumbs up and a sub from deepest Wales
Thank you WCW, really appreciate your comments.
Can I ask where you guys camped outside Drymen? Was it in the field behind Mulberry lodge just after leaving Gartness Rd.
Thanks Lee, yeh I think that’s the place. Don’t drink the water from the stream there though. Even though we used filters, most of us got ill, and we,re not sure if it was the water there.
Thanks for the heads up, I walked the WHW last September and camped in Garadhban forest, but this year we have a larger group and I was looking for a bigger camp area and this looks the ideal spot 👍
We walked the West Highland Way at the same exact time as you guys, I also got really ill around Inversnaid. I'm going to try again in a couple of weeks
That’s a coincidence, I think it’s because so many walk that route now, and with everyone wazzing and pooing all around it feeds back into the water, that’s what I think now, thinking about it. Anyway, appreciate your comments.
I had the same thing but it was gastroenteritis...only thing I ate or drank that I didn't bring with me was from the Rowardennan Hotel...ate dinner there. Also had to call for rescue as I was so sick and thus dehydrated I was delirous...got quite dangerous
Great record of your trip ,I am starting the WHW solo on Monday 5th June so hope not to have some of the issues your group unfortunately suffered
Thanks David. You'll love it mate. I would recommend loads of skin so soft and midge nets, if you're camping out. I got eaten alive by the pesky lighters. They seemed to come out at certain times in the evening, and morning. A right pain. Great scenery though. Have fun.
I forgot to ask a question where did you get your hooti3 outer at
I have a Hollie 3 tent. I just took the fly outer and poles. You can get them online. It was a great system, but not one for the weight conscious fraternity.
I will have to watch this tonight mate big to long..... But I am looking forward as always
Thanks dan, hope you
Like
Isle of Wight Bushcraft i did mate as alway big long for me..
Shane i thought you 3 were going to make it , you've got the best bit to do so they say i haven't done that section either. Yes the boring bit is a nice start to the hike i've done that section 4 times. I'm very guilty of not drinking enough water most times i battle through it but it caught up on me one time. Great film the voiceover is a good idea i might try it. Autumn your thinking i'm busy then but if you give me a date and don't mind a dirty Scotsman with you i'll try and tag along. ATB Eddie.
Many thanks Eddie, not sure about dates, it's a case of when a window opens., I'll bear it in mind. Appreciate your Comms too Eddie. Thanx bud.
Question for Shane: what kind of chair are you using in the video ?
It’s the WolfWise camp chair, real light but strong
I’ve got a vid review of it. Check this out. ruclips.net/video/TzPgC4OC2k8/видео.html
You’ll find it helpful I’m sure.
morning mi friend . nice very nice . well done . ATB
Many thanks Andy.
Hope you all have made a full recovery ;-)
Much better now Mike. Thanks mate
Great video! It looks really nice. What time of year is it? :)
Thank you Christian, we did this in a May, midges not too bad then.
Check out this great video of our adventure
In the Brecon Beacons next. ruclips.net/video/NgxVxCztOxU/видео.html
sorry to hear that a lot of your hiking friends are getting sick and getting hurt and bowing out
well done on another brilliant video Shane I really enjoyed it. Ii think you did really well you and your mates it was a great effort . i hope you get to finish it at some point but i just want you to do more filming there. lol atb mo and gill
He he he, thank you mo, hope to get back early autumn. Hope you're well mo, take care my Brummy friend. 😊
lol brummy friend i guess it does stand out a little doesent it. i do live in kent but your right lol
Where I live in ventnor mo, on the IOW, a faith few brummies have moved to Ventnor, so I'm well used to the brummy accent, especially those from doodlee, lol. All the best mo, pass on my regards to Gill, take care mate.
Isle of Wight Bushcraft lol I come from Birmingham. itself but I did move to the black Country lol.
you're carrying your tents and your hammock setup
3kg for a shelter system!!!!! I have a two person single shell system that is about 1kg including stakes. 3kg is just far too heavy for the likes of me.
It is a lot I agree, but the hilleberg Soulo isn’t that much lighter. My buddy Tim is like you. He has lightweight tents around the 600 g mark. 3kg isn’t a problem for me, although if there’s a tent that’s as robust in bad weather, and as durable for the same money but a lot lighter, Im buying one. Lol. Thanks for your comments Bruce. Appreciated mate.
it's down to individual preference I agree but my Zepaks two person tent is superb and with lots of room. You use treking poles to erect it but it's a great tent. Basically the lighter the pack the further you go and it's more enjoyable. I plan to use it on the WHW this year in late April or early May dependent on weather forecast. ruclips.net/video/GF0XtRIUEgo/видео.html
Thanks Bruce, I’ll check them out
that was a very low low bridge
great video would love it if you want to join my live shout outs every saturday . thank you .
Many thanks DM, I'll check it out.
