I remember as a kid finding an Optikk out of sheer luck in a thrift shop (on card, no less) but, boy, till that point it haunted my young little mind that I could never find him on shelves.
Being born in '85 I inherited all my MOTU figures from friends/older cousins as they aged out of action figures, so the NA characters hold a special place in my heart as the first He-Man figures I could actually go to a toy store and buy new. (except for a Sorceress I got on close out at Kay-Bee once)
Optikk was one of my favorites from the MOTUC line. It is one of my few complaints that they didn't finish NA, I especially would have liked the rest of the Galactic Protectors. Perhaps one day?
I'm still incredibly impressed that Optikk is one of the two MOTU Classics figures that my father wasn't able to get his hands on out of the whole line.
That's another great thing about Classics: logos for every faction, not only the Horde or the Snake Men but everybody got a new logo... it would really be cool to have a video about these logos! Thank you again.
Great video! Thank you! Optikk was one of only three NA figures I had, back in the day (the other two were He-Man and Slushhead from a 2-Pack). Mine had the green iris; I didn't know there was an orange version until I got the MOTUC figure. It was a nice surprise to see Nick "Phraggle" Bondra's rendering of Optikk at the 06:53 Mark. He does some amazing artwork of Star Wars and MOTU characters. Definitely worth looking up if you haven't seen them before. The MOTU ones are quite a way down his gallery, though; he hasn't done any in a while.
I loved Optikk, it was a great first choice to dip into the New Adventures characters. Since I didn't collect any New Adventures figures these really were "new" to me. I never understood the complaints about the Trap Jaw leg re-use. I never had any issues with that. To be honest, I loved the Trap Jaw legs, even on the vintage figure. I loved that vintage Man-E-Faces and Roboto also shared the same legs.
Optikk is a great figure that blends in well with the other MOTUC characters. I don't understand the "blinking" method of communication since he doesn't have any eyelids but it is a funny thought. I just assumed he communicated with sign language or that he spoke from his computerized armor like a droid.
This was a sweet video- thanks! He was one of my favorites from back in the day. Recently I was able to find 2 (@ separate times) a broken 1 w/ a gun & the other working. Still a fun one to have! Did you have a favorite NA character to either own or work on?
One of the sad parts of losing MattyCollector was the lost hope of getting any more NA figures or even an update on the NA power sword or Skeletor staff. Those roleplay items were great when they came out long ago, and updated versions scaled up for adults with modern technology would have been great. And Sagitar.
I honestly don't remember the He-Man line being in that many stores. I think even Hills, which was second only to TRU for toy selection, didn't carry them.
I think pretty much all the movie villains who were in heavy make up, Kargg, Saurod, Beast Man, and Skeletors troops, all fit the Space Mutant look really well put next to Optikk, Slush Head, and Karatti.
thats hilarious, i remember new adventures, but only got the sword and havok staff, they light up and made sounds man. I think i was playing out side with friends so no figures were had, or I still had all the old ones,
I only got around to buying 3 classic figures before financial changes put the brakes on those types of purchases. After Skeletor and Trap Jaw, I had my eyes on a bunch of the classic baddies, as well as that killer Eternian guard set, but ultimately Optikk "caught my eye" (bu-dump-psh) and even though I was totally unfamiliar with him, I thought he was just such a fantastic 'archtype' in a line of characters that are so wonderfully archtypical, I just had to have him next, irrespective of said unfamiliarity. The gold, The eyeball thing (so 80s. Remember mad-balls?) such a fantastic work of art. To me, he just blends in perfectly as an early-series character.
I wish I had gotten into this line back in the day. Hasbro should take some notes on Optikk and make an Orb figure. I did have the Molar and Skeletor 2-pack. I really wanted a good Skeletor figure and I thought the Molar 2-pack was hilarious.
Part of me liked the uniform look of the Mutants all having the same legs. It was when the Rock People had Trapjaws legs and arms I really felt it cheapened them.
Thanks, seems like a fun figure to work on. The reutilization of parts kept money flowing. These were adults. It's not like you used Trap Jaw parts painted for Trap Jaw. Geez! Lol
I love this figure and wish i had him but he’s so expensive now. I saw him at my local comic book store like years ago but I was kinda in this Weird Headspace at the time that I think a lot of people get into as they get older where I was in highschool and kinda in denial about liking MOTU, also they were Expensive and while I was even then a toy collector I was more into other lines at the time. I regret not picking this up, i love the Giant Eye thing, it kinda reminds me of my Favorite Power Rangers Monster, Eye Guy.
Optikk was the first NA figure I got as a kid so I liked that he was the first we got in Classics too. I still want the rest of NA in Classics. I can't imagine Mattel will ever include them in Origins so it would be nice if they allowed Super7 to have the rights to make NA characters still in Classics.

Scott has explained this before. That year Mattel had some kind of thing going on with Stan Lee, and they had a budget to make some kind of toy celebrating Stan, and Scott decided to make a Classics figure of him. Some fans thought this took away a slot from a Classics character, but he's said this was a completely separate budget and it would have gone to making some other Stan Lee toy thing if he hadn't been made into a Classics figure.
MOTU comics haven't always been created by DC. Several other publishers have held the licence over the years, including Marvel, under the STAR comics branding. So technically, as a former Marvel editor-in-chief, Stan Lee does have a very tenuous connection to MOTU.
I love the NA figures we got. Such a shame we didn't get the whole cast.

Mang, th@ P4P is L-I-T!!
