People act like this about Doctor Who music too? "Old good new bad." Don't get me wrong I loved pretty much all of Murray's music- one of my favorite composers. His music has always been great and did nothing but get better and better. So, no you don't hear stuff like this in the series anymore. You hear better. (Or at least, that applies to Murray which is when you wrote this comment. I'm indifferent to the new composer)
There's one thing that I never considered. This music playing at the end of The Satan Pit where the Doctor says the Beast lied about Rose dying in battle foreshadows the ending of Doomsday. In fact, when Rose and Jackie share a tearful embrace, and the Doctor composes himself in the Tardis, this music is playing yet again, reminding people that the Doctor should've taken the Beast's threat more seriously.
I first really noticed the emotional impact of this track when I heard parts of it in The Satan Pit/The Impossible Planet, when the first member of the crew (ashamed I don't remember her name) dies and at the end when Zach is compiling out the list of the dead. Then I went back to Dalek and it knocked my sock off again. This is incredible music.
Listening to this makes me wish I was six years old again. Falling in love with doctor who for the first time, it's such a deep nostalgic sadness I can't even explain it
Me too man, wish the Doctor could take me back to see myself watching Nine and Rose as a kid for the first time (especially watching Ten regenerate in The Stolen Earth and the shock on my face)
I'm with you there. I long to go back to when I was 5 and Watching it for the first time with my dad. Just watching the Rose and The Doctor trying to defeat The Autons, amazing.
Dalek: Why do we survive? Doctor: I don't know Dalek: I am the last of the Daleks Doctor: You're not even that. Rose did more than regenerate you. You've absorbed her DNA. You're mutating. Dalek: Into what? Doctor: Something new. I'm sorry. Rose: Isn't that better? Doctor: Not for a Dalek.
"I misjudged you." "No, you judged me correctly. I am a Dalek. And I die to safeguard the purity of the Dalek race." He would no longer acknowledge the Doctor. The Doctor had failed. The Doctor was beneath the contempt of the Daleks. The Daleks were supreme. - from the novelisation (2021) of Dalek.
This is probably my favourite soundtrack. I love the big orchestral music from later on, but I feel the original Murray Gold music was more down to earth. There was a lot more synth and classic sounding effects to it that made you think 'This is new Doctor Who'! It's also incredibly nostalgic for me. From what I heard in Deep Breath, it sounds like he may be slightly returning to his roots with the classic effects, there was even a good use of synth at times in 'The Time Of The Doctor'! I hope that's what he's doing! :)
I tried getting into Doctor Who because of how much everybody loved it. Had to push myself through the first five episodes and was about to give up before episode 6. That episode was everything I wanted from this series, and now I'm extremely interested in continuing watching.
Definitely my favourite Doctor Who track, at least one of them. Such a beautiful and carefully crafted piece. It just truly pulls at your heart strings - makes me teary-eyed every time I listen to it.
Ida Scott: "The two of you, you never said, really... Who are you?" The Doctor (turns to Rose and grins): "Oh. The stuff of legend." Back when Doctor Who used to be brilliant. When you actually cared about the characters, cared about people who died ("For how should man die better than facing fearful odds? For the ashes of his father, and the temple of his gods?"). Back when the TARDIS had a green glow (I miss the green glow: it made the interior feel more alien and otherworldly and magical; shame they changed the cinematographer).
You are so right. Love those early Who's. That's why you fall in love with Dr. Who, you care about the characters, and the music makes it wonderful. Murray Gold we want you back. Even though I liked the latest doctors I lost interest in the latest doctor. Hope the new doctor is back to wonderful.
I’m currently rewatching s2 (s1 too obvs) did the 600th time and I don’t wanna watch past it :( oh, this song reminds me of the ending of The Satan pit :( I miss rose so much omg
It's partially because there's just so dang MUCH of it imo. Season 5's ost alone feels longer than the majority of 1-4, and it even had multiple tracks per episode. I think s5 just oversaturated itself, don't you?
Dalek was one of the best episodes of...no, not just Series 1,not even just the series itself. Is one of the best episodes to exist in TV history...I mean...my god...the emotion, the power...the vengeful Ninth Doctor, still tortured about what he did to kill the Daleks: kill the Time Lords as well; the lone Dalek, tortured by Van Staten, alone, restored, but mutated; Rose, tortured by the situation, caught in the middle, and changing the Dalek. There's so much to the episode...I can hardly begin
Although my favourite soundtrack is the 8th series but 1&2 have to cone in at a 2nd because the music is gorgeous and this is a perfect example of that.
There’s so much sadness in 10’s acting, like you don’t see that borderline depression in the rest of them in my opinion. I mean the music definitely helps as well.
I went through every song in the soundtrack until I found this one JUST to find which one it's from. Definitely agree that it's the best part of the song.
People hating on Matt Smith are just plain pathetic. Every doctor has brought something new to the table and Matt is no different. Tennant left some big shoes to fill and Matt is doing a fantastic job at it.
true... however it took me a LONG time to realise how good matt is. My first doctor was Christopher Eccleston and so obviously loved the character from the word go, when he regenerated into David Tennent's doctor it took me about 2 episodes to decide i liked him. then when he regenerated into Matt Smith's doctor it took me atleast 2 series to like it... though i blame poor writing... but your right, Matt has done a great job and i hope the next doctor is able to step up to the mark...
Then for you, eleven is the Doctor acting himself out - hiding things, etc. Just consider that, whatever feeling you get from him, is HIM. In rings of Akhaten, he "proved" himself to be The Doctor with that speech. Like it was questionable before...
Impossible Planet was a great episode, and i thought this music was unique to that story, till i rewatched Dalek, like so much of Tennant's first series it was recycled Eccleston material :')
For everyone talking about who the best doctor is. I preferred Series 1-4 to 5-7. This is not because of Smith's bad acting, but simply Moffat's bad writing. BRING BACK RTD :(

@@mikebliss3153Indeed. 2005-2010 was the best. 2005-2006 was the best of the best. I disagree with you, for me, Tennant has been and always will be the perfect Doctor, he had humour, but portrayed the true sadness of his position so perfectly. The only episode I really liked Smith in was Rings of Akhaten, because that's the only time I could connect to him and liked his acting
