Shame he gets such flack for the later season but the man had been writing doctor who for night on 12 years. Not to mention fan stuff before that. It was only a matter of time before he became stale.
What most amuses me about this episode is how Madame du Pompadour isnt the onlyt person that meets The Doctor as a little girl, grows up with him as an imaginary friend, develops a crush on him, pushes him against a wall and kisses him when she meets him again (despite the fact that shes already engaged), is separated from The Doctor due to factors he can't control, and eventually dies of old age without ever seeing him again. Really original, Moffat. Thought no one would notice, did you?

What a beautiful show this once was. 10 years on from this comment and I can guarantee we never see writing and music like this again. The programmes completely lost its way
Yep those two were masterpieces, but not the only one. Don't forget the weeping angel or the episode where he locks his time-lord powers in the pocket watch
Not really. Given borders and limits Moffat is a fantastic writer. He did some of the very best stuff we got. But he really is not a to great show runner. He's great one laying groundwork, making references for possible future plot lines, but is really bad at delivering later on.

+Commander Karl No. She's very different. Amy doesn't know the Doctor like Renett did. She's not even close in intelligence to Renett and she has a completely different personality. It's not that I don't like Amy before you would say that but I'm just being honest. Renett was extremely smart and had a really fast understanding. She was also fearless and clever. Renett was the possible best lover for the Doctor as she knew him more than anyone ever did and she was extremely smart as well just like the Doctor but as a human. If anyone it's Clara who's the closest to her since she did enter to the life stream of the Doctor and helping him along the way also she was very clever too but funnily enough still not as clever as Rennet. Honestly they had a better chemistry in one episode then Riversong and the Doctor arc. With River it felt forced but with Renett it was brilliant it was almost perfect. They only seen each other a very few short periods yet they loved each other so much and they knew almost everything about the other. The Doctor loved her SO MUCH that he was ready to leave Rose and Mickey beyond to (possibly) die. And yes I do suspect he always had an emergency at moments like that but remember he never did anything like this ever again which really a proof of much he loved her. Renett was that perfect lover the Doctor could never have. It happened with most of us as the one we loved the most (before we found our true one) we either couldn't get or something terrible happened separating us even if we could have been PERFECT together. Saying that Amy is a copy of her is an insult to Renett's character because she was so much deeper and much more complex than Amy even tho she only had a single episode.
I only wish Moffat could still write such enchanting and heartbreaking tales, now it seems to be all about complex and impressive story arcs and less of the beautiful, delicate emotion that these stories conveyed
I usually listen to this soundtrack to help me sleep and when I do, I always fall asleep with tears in my eyes.Lovely, heart-breaking episode and simply wonderfull soundtrack.
this will always be my favorite song/theme from doctor who. not rose, not the main theme, not the doomsday theme. no, reinette's theme, a song that ticks with time, that blossoms with fear and hope and love and loss, that seems like a song a dying star could sing. murray gold is a master.
This episode was freaking amazing. One of the best written by Moffat. If only he'd kept it simplistic but sweet like this in Season 5 onwards. The storylines are just confusing now.
Moffat gave us some of the best RTD era stories, like this one, or The Empty Child, or Silence in the Library. Now his stories are some of the worst Doctor Who ever (except for Heaven Sent, which was phenomenal).

One of the best Doctor Who episodes. I understand why he was chosen to be show runner but sadly it wasn't a good decision because nothing ever compared to his single storylines from before...
When I saw the episode, I didn't really cry; I just sort of brushed it off. Listening to this music now, and thinking about all of the emotions going through the doctor and the madame... I just cried. I cried and cried and had absolutely no control over myself.
This could've been used for Matt Smith's final moments before going to face Daleks off in tower before he gets new regenerations or him saying his final goodbye to Amy before "sneezing" into Peter Capaldi.
I always found 11's regeneration to be quite pathetic. 9 had great final words and 10 was absolutely heartbreaking to watch. But 11? 'Clara, can you fetch me a tissue?' 'OK sure.' 'Oh wait to late *ACHOOO!* 'Doctor?' 'KiDnEyS!'

Just finished the episode right now-or well, nearing it. The episode itself was pretty cool in itself, honestly. I had only watched clips from it out of context, so I only knew little pieces of what to expect. But boy, I wasn't ready for how things turned out. The Doctor was so excited to take the Madame to see the stars up close, but instead unintentionally kept her waiting until she died. My mans cannot catch a break.
My dear Doctor: the path has never seemed more slow, and yet I fear I am nearing its end. Reason tells me that you and I are unlikely to meet again, but I think I shall not listen to reason. I have seen the world inside your head and know that all things are possible. Hurry though, my love: my days grow shorter now, and I am so very weak. Godspeed, my lonely angel.
This reminds me of a finale of a "Death of Doctor Who" story where, while dying, he makes his last stand against his ultimate foes and then in the arms of his loyal companion, like Sarah Jane Smith or Rose Tyler, he says his famous last words: "It's ok....I did it...I ended it....I stopped the war....allons....y..." before he dies without regenerating. I had a dream about it when I watched the moment David Tennant left the show. It was about two years ago and I still remember it.
