I don't know why people would think the flute would not be great with "Take 5." It's not the instrument playing the music; its the person playing the instrument, and this woman and her combo/classmates threw down (did great)! Great going guys!
Tried listing to several renditions of Take 5, and it seemed like all the sax players did a poor job. They would go so quiet on many of the notes, especially that quick little run that it all just blended into one note. But this flute player seems to be hitting the notes better than the sax players
TBH the drummer is the driving force in this video. The rest seems tied -down to the notes - resulting in them being just less interesting and only drawing attention to when they're slightly out of touch/feel
Sometimes you find some classic you just want to play endlessly on repeat. Like this iteration. It feels like I just had six ten-minute breaks per hour, thank you.
I PLAYED THIS TWICE TO MAKE SURE that it was as good as I thought it was originally and it was. The flute & the brushes all had the right touch. I believe these solo's were transcribed from the original solo's, the drum solo partially THIS PERFORMANCE IS A KEEPER !!!
I used to play this in the 7th grade, 1963, I was playing alto in that year. in fact, before band class, I was playing it, then over the intercom, we heard Kennedy was shot. I'll never forget that day.
These young musicians were making MUSIC. That was their main concern. Not going through some kind of individualistic competition or malabarism of sorts. The more I listen to music and watch people performing, the more I value what these guys did. Thank you, Jazz Laureate.
As I staunch Brubeck fan I didn't think I would rate this, but absolutely superb !!!! well done , a very difficult piece to play, beautifully performed, I love it! going to put this on my favorites!!!
Oh my God was this great! I was on my computer working on a spreadsheet and listening to Pandora when this came on. I thought to myself, "A flute?" I quickly went to RUclips and there I became mesmerized by this fantastic group playing Dave Brubeck. Ms. Varela had me in the palms of her hands. I played the video three straight times and saved it on my hard drive for future enjoyment. I hope everyone in the group is still progressing in their careers. Each of you played beautifully. I'm a drummer myself and the man on the kit blew me away.
Flute is such an versatile and super musical instrument. This video is truly a great example of what I say The young musicians here are all talented jazz musicians their performance in here is one top notch. Salute the lady and all others including the bass player for recording the same.

Im glad in this instance this old gem was shown by today's *NOW* generation.

How can you listen to this rendition of such a classic jazz tune and not walk away absolutely loving the flute?
I thought the flute?
Nah!
Man was I wrong!
This is so beautiful, cannot listen enough!

like some scene out of a movie... :/
I remember that day like yesterday. I was in the 3rd grade.
I adore the flute's voice with the tune.
Nice redition with arrangements and ad lib well preserved.

The Brubeck Quartet would be proud of your performances. Bravo!
oohhhh man the drums are on point
Definitely one of the nicest renditions I've listen too. Nice work for sure.
Awesome version - the drummer did a great tribute to Morello's legendary solo while making it his own!
I like it with just the brushses.
Yes, the drummer : very well syncopated and groovy!
The subtle sound of the flute is extremely relaxing and puts me in a good mood and gives me serenity, Thanks!
If we had never heard of Paul Desmond, THIS would be a classic.

That was a great recital! Awesome job Vanessa!
I did not think they could pull it off. Surprised me. I was getting ready to be disappointed... Excellent!

The entire quartet sounded like and preserved the original vibe of Brubeck's rendition. Absolutely BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
I really like the original of this tune, but this is an absolutely amazing cover.
She would make Paul Desmond proud.
Smoooooooth!
The greatest jazz song done beautifully. Bravo.
Beautiful. I always loved this song. It was written for sax, but it is even better with the flute. Great performance all of you!
having worked with Dave on many recordings -I know that he and Paul would be very impressed with this performance.....Good luck to you all.......
Paul Desmond on flute. I've listened to Brubeck more years than these young people have been alive. Excellent tribute to the quarter and the tune.
Trés Trés belle version bravo ❤❤👏👏
Thanks, all. Inspiring, Vanessa! I just bought the sheet music so I can learn this on flute. Thanks!
Very very nice
A very talented young lady there.
She is my chorus teacher

A completely worthy rendition. Love it!!! Nice job Vanessa and gang!!!
one of my all time fav tunes...even nicer to hear all the different versions, this one is beautiful
absolutely wonderful, thanks
Vanessa, I love the way you play! You almost take it to a classical level with a little Jethro Tull or should I say Ian Anderson. Nicely done!
I still adore and admire Vanessa's performance.
That was amazing. A great treatment of some classic jazz. A beautiful flautist and a tight ensemble. Very well done.
Beautifully played by the whole ensemble. Exquisite. Thank you for sharing.
Perfectly played! I loved this rendition.
I ve listened lots of samples of this song so far but I think this one hit me from my heart, perfect....:)
Thank you, the melody is so alive and crisp I can truely savour this beautiful version of your TAKE FIVE.from Dave Brubeck.
The flute gives a completely different vibe than the saxophone. It is nice though

Excellent from first beat to last...that Flute player is the bomb! It's true, that composition isn't easy, but she's holding her own!
I love and play the flute and this is the smoothest I have ever heard take 5 with any instrument. Congratulations.
A wonderful interpretation of a great classic.
Perfect. Just how it's supposed to sound, gentle and melodic.
Beautiful! Conjures a smile on my face. Could listen to it all night long... ;-)
Bravo Vanessa! I really enjoy it, thanks!
