You go listen to "Pictures at an Exhibition" (Modest Mussorgsky) Kazuhito Yamashita [Guitar] (copy this to search field in RUclips). It's here. I think that's the most impossible-to-play guitar arrangement EVER, and I think it also set the standard - and the base notion that "It can be done" following which - this piece was arranged for the Guitar. Besides this - this thing is really a joy.
@@gufra9835 I agree believe there is guitar in the original arrangement, however had the OP said one guitar only it may have been more on point. I once heard a guy play it beautifully on accordion in the subway.
as a young jazz guitarist trying to study classical too, I enjoyed lessons with george for a couple years at SSU.. and went to a couple of carmel guitar festivals where george was a major presence.. maybe about 77’ or 78’ ? great to see george still going strong! thanks for sharing.. 🎸😎
Wow, this is a tremendous gem! Flows like liquid mercury yet has the precision of a surgeons scalpel whilst retaining the delicate sweetness of this nuanced piece. Great respect for his experienced and skilful playing.
I can't guess how many times I've heard those chords without actually noticing them. Part of what was remarkable about this performance is how simultaneous elements were kept so distinct and clear.
Besides being an astounding performance, the tone on that guitar is amazing. Awesome is a word used too often these days to describe a good performance. This is awesome. In the true meaning of the word.
Take-5 is one of those iconic jazz pieces that will live forever. And this take on Take-5 is one more reason Take-5 will propel those that are the keepers of jazz in all it manifestations to immortality Bravo

Lead, bass, and chords, up and down the fretboard. I hope people who don’t play guitar get how insanely difficult this is. And it’s smooth and perfect 😍
perhaps due to my advancing age, i'm finding many live music pieces played at a slightly fast tempo, rushed. a shame really given that clarity of the tone which is a difficult task in itself; but if one is to compare this piece with even less competent versions, one can find more changes of intensity as well as rhythm, which color my palette.

Beautiful. Thank you George Sakellariou. I am so grateful.
In the world of baroque music, an instrument of that age would be considered "just broken in", lol. Hopefully a couple centuries from now that wondrous assembly will still be wowing listeners, in "fully mature voice"!
@@RobertSlover It also has so improvisation. It's not a jazz performance, it's just a classical guitar interpretation of an iconic jazz track. I admire him not for this recording only, but for the exceptional music he has already recorded. I quite like this interpretation of this theme, though, it's on beat and he expresses the sound of the spanish guitar through it very well.
This song's been with me since I "discovered" the album around 1972ish. Even now it sticks with me and has provided great opportunities to share with my musical kids. And this is a beautiful transposition of it, George. Very well done!

No, it is a guitar that he is playing well.
if there was ever a tune that wasn't meant to be played on the guitar , this is it. the fact that he can do this so smoothly is amazing.
So, why NOT for guitar? Isn't it music, we love and appreciate?

I’ve tried and failed so many times at getting anything close to this fluidity with Take 5 on guitar…bravo, maestro!
Yes, me too. That 5/4 time just kills me every time. I think I have it, play with a click track, and discover that I have an "interesting rubato". 🤣

The result of a lifetime of dedication to craftsmanship and perfection …and love.
The phrasing this guitarist used is the work of a true master....... Exquisite.
Mr. Brubeck would be proud of this.
In fact, it was Paul Desmond who composed Take Five, and then delivered a million different improvisations on it in the second part.
Chet atkins who wrote this arrangement in 1973 would have been proud aswell

It ain't a song cos it ain't got no words. It's a toon.
