As great as this performance is I feel this is not Brent’s best vocal rendition of this song. It seems he’s most definitely protecting his voice here because in the original version he goes all out. You should definitely check out the album version both with the band, which is a more hard hitting tune and specifically the acoustic version. Those are where he sounds best imo.

In this version, Brent is singing in a safe way to keep from straining his vocals. I'm not saying this is a bad version but it definitely is not as heart felt as the original studio version. You have to hear the studio version to feel the emotion of the lyrics.

Honestly, I think the studio version is a much better display of his vocals. He stays up in the higher notes more and does some amazing runs. Gives the song a lot more punch and a lot more feeling. Give it a listen. I’m curious what your thoughts will be.

Brent tells a story about how it’s not actually about suicide. It’s about being stuck in a certain mindset and not being able to see what’s all really around you. Like looking down the barrel of a gun instead of seeing what’s around it.

If you haven't heard the original acoustic version of 45 you should definitely listen to it. This version is great but his vocals on the acoustic version is unbelievable. The acoustic will always be a favorite.

The actual studio version and acoustic studio versions are amazing too. The original has a different feel to it as well. He pronounces some words differently and emphasizes them more. You REALLY need to listen to Call Me (especially acoustic) and Heroes.

  • @andrewdemarco3512

You really need to hear their song "monsters". The music video especially is so emotional. Its a song about everyone having their internal monsters to fight (in his case his addiction). His switch from verses to chorus are so good in that. The visuals of the music video also tell a story and its hard not to cry.

The studio version is quite different from the perspective of the vocal approach. You might try it as well.

The studio version of this is so much more powerful than this one to me. That being said brent and shinedown make a truly amazing band in my opinion. I'd love to hear more reactions of them. Maybe "Second Chance" next time.

Be sure to also check out the acoustic studio version. It’s extremely raw and powerful.

“Call Me” is a beautiful wonderful example of his vocal talent.

One amazing and underrated song from Shinedown is "Shed Some Light". They played it in this show in Kansas and it's just mindblowing.

“Save Me” by Shinedown is an amazing song you should look into. Another song about struggles (for him personally but the music video shows others as well). Thanks and awesome job as always!

Yes!! His voice goes right through my soul. Love them so much. My son was a Veteran who lost his battle with PTSD and ended his life at the age of 25. He was 25. This song hits me HARD. He is the one who introduced me to Shinedown. He had the best taste in music

I'll put my Shinedown recommends first: "Crow and the Butterfly" is amazing, but I think my favorite is "What a Shame."
