    Remember, Lane was a Head Coach at Oakland in the NFL, so he knows “free agency.” A fit is a given.

    Razorback fan here: Ole Miss and Kiffin are rolling! Lane is a brilliant coach and heckuva recruiter. With a 12 team playoff, the Rebels are primed for a nice run in the upcoming season. A little envious that the Hogs have been regressing the past couple of seasons, but good to see Ole Miss doing so well. Nice podcast BTW!!

    At this time, you can recruit high school students and, if they do well, lose them to the portal. The key is winning, so high school players and portal players want to be on your team. All Lane Kiffin needed was a defense. Once he gets the train rolling down the track, Ole Miss may become the new Alabama.

      We will see? What are you talking about? We have already seen. Lane has been the most dominant in the portal and has won 10+ games 2 out of 3 seasons in the SEC at a school that hasn’t done it in 60+ years. Not a fluke, It clearly works. And now that he has high school talent to back it up OM has a chance to start something special. What do you think OM should have just kept doing the same thing they had always done and recruit middle of the SEC pack? Of course not, you get elite talent by any means.

      @@booboodafoo3247 Oh I like what he has done in the portal no doubt
      The problem is you can't pay these guys what he is paying without disruption in the locker room it even proves that in the NFL

      Ole Miss went 11-2 using the same method last year
      Its just Lane spent time in Oakland with the Raiders so he understands how Free Agency works and applies that to the Transfer portal
      He also learned the down side in 2022 where the 1 loss killed the season

  • @Nooooahhh
    @Nooooahhh 9 месяцев назад

    I like your take on high school recruiting being the most sustainable route to success, but in todays college football, with a 12 team playoff, whose to say that’s so? It’s been shown that a roster overhaul using the portal can translate to wins. Ole Miss has had two, 10+ win seasons in the past 3 years. That’s never been done in school history, nevertheless a 10 win season. Teams like Ole Miss, Missouri, Florida state have shown it can be done.

      The thing is, Ole Miss hasn’t really tried hard in football and when they did they got in trouble from the NCAA. Prior to Freeze, an accountant ran the athletic department. OM has had the tools to succeed and they’re finally using them so this statement won’t be true much longer. Plus they’ve won multiple NY6 bowls but not sure what your definition of “much” is.

The Bamas and Georgias have been buying players for decades. Long before it was legal. Oh, and Ole Miss HAS won titles, but not in the East/West era.

      Good grief, dude. They've won more games over the past 4 seasons than any other team in the SEC except GA and AL. Just won 11 games including a victory over Penn State in the Peach Bowl. Ole Miss won 6 SEC titles and two national titles from 1947 - 1963. Does that sound like "never amounts to much of anything?"
