I would like to see you do a bunch of these short combat examples to illustrate how the various mechanics of GURPS work. They’re easy to digest, easier to search for (for those who want a refresher), and especially entertaining because they’re not repetitive and they don’t drag. You could even redo such short scenarios a few times using different dice results to show what can happen. Also, it’s a good idea to have all the rules you plan to demonstrate down cold, so you know the modifiers and their effects by heart. Just a suggestion!

I dare say that fancy digital game table is a regular conversation piece... my simple mind was mesmerized by that river. It moves!!

Ha yeah this table is going to be distracting once we get playing on it perhaps :P

Just stumbled across your channel and been binging your content. I have been a GURPS lurker for quite some time and have always been fascinated with it. However my groups have always preferred the simplicity of D&D. I’ve read enough and watched enough to realize GURPS is whatever you make it and therefore it is up to the GM/players to have GURPS work for them. That being said, so many people get their start in DnD and which makes the learning curve even steeper. I suggest a series of videos that help transition 5e’rs to GURPS. Explain leveling in more detail. How should GMs introduce magic items? How to you help restrain the massive amount of choices to noobs. Etc. I think once people get the basics down, like you are doing for me and combat; like the rogue and monk videos. People may be more willing to try it.

Thank you and welcome to GURPS! Yes GURPS is very much "what you make" and probably realistically geared more towards very experienced GMs who already know how/what kind of game tgey want to run. And yes those are very good suggestions but quite an undertaking to do properly. I will add it to my list of video ideas for sure though.

Good example for ranged combat! GURPS has got to be my favourite system. So many options to add as a GM or take away as necessary so the story can flow. Remember last time I played 5e... my players enjoy it, but it can be boring to run tbh (especially combat). These tactical options really add to the story and create tense moments. Actually feels like players are true heroes when they pull off stuff like you showed.

Thanks, these kinds of heroic epic scenes are what make a fun game to me and games without basic things like hit locations I feel are completely missing out on the action. Thanks for watching!

Really cool table! And I like the maps you use---although I have a thing for hex-grids instead. ;-)

Aren't wounds to the arm limited to HP/2 + 1? (per crippling rules p. 420-421, Basic Set)

I thought that limb damage was limited to half HP but that half+1 was needed to cripple. Basically the extra +1 does no additional HP damage but causes the crippling.

What, no moving target? I really admire how GURPS can account for the target being in motion rather than just standing. Anyone who has targeted a moving object or is shooting on the move themselves will appreciate it isn't the same as standing still firing at a stationary target.
    Cheers!

oh good point, that's maybe a topic for a whole other video actually. Best played out with guns and vehicles of course, since there really isn't much of a penalty for movement under 3y in a turn..... or is it 5y.

  • @emrek99205

More than half health to a limb cripples the limb. Anything held in a crippled arm or hand is immediately dropped unless it is strapped into place like a shield. All those rolls to see if he drops it or dies or falls down are unnecessary when determining if she was successful doing what she planned. Arm damage over half HP = drops what's in the hand. Simple.

Nice example. If the sorcerer were to cast a spell against the archer, he would need to do also a ranged attack?

    • @easygurps
      @easygurps  10 месяцев назад

Thank you, yes that is correct. "Missile spells" like Fireball, Lightning bolt, magic missile etc. work on the exact same range penalty as guns/bows/thrown. All other spells (like paralysis, slow, haste, mind control etc.) use a much harsher range penalty, which is a nice touch. That Sorcerer would however get the +2 height bonus for having "higher ground" (The archer was suffering an additional -2.... or was it -1?, due to targets higher ground). I love the higher ground rule as well. You just use the the range chart for that too by elevation difference. Makes for interesting combat encouraging your swashbuckler to actually jump up onto tables to gain a +1, or fight while backing up stairs. Thanks for watching.

5e combat can already take ages, this seems like it would take sooo much longer, and also not be as fun. the ranger just sits there for 4 turns to shoot one arrow? you can get the narrative and flavour of this in dnd5e, way faster, you can probably fit 3 combats in so actually get 3x more interesting things happening. its on the players as well as the dm to make combat interesting, if you just say "i shoot the guy" every round, ofcoarse its gonna be boring.

The point is you can avoid the typical "I hit him with my sword" repeatedly and actually make tactical decisions that matter (and can speed up combat). GURPS chracters also rarely, take even 5 hits. You are maimed, too hurt to move/fight or unconscious or dead usually within 20mins. Of course GURPS being wildly versatile one can make it take longer. Thanks for watching
