Blumhouse Productions is prepping the exorcist believer with David Gordon Green (Halloween reboot trilogy), a direct sequel to classic horror movie The Exorcist and the first film in an exorcist reboot trilogy.
There's no real debate that The Exorcist (El Exorcista) based on William Peter Blatty's novel, directed by William Friedkin, and starring Ellen Burstyn, Linda Blair, Max Von Sydow, Jason Miller and Lee J. Cobb is one of the greatest scary movies ever made. If you've seen the exorcism of God trailer, it's just one of the many exorcism themed horror movies that have followed since.
Exorcist Believer will star Leslie Odom Jr., best known for playing Aaron Burr in the Broadway smash Hamilton, as the father of a child possessed by a demon, who in his desperate search for salvation, goes to Chris MacNeill (Ellen Burstyn) mother of the possessed Regan MacNeil (played in the original 1973 film by Linda Blair) for help. This is the first time the Oscar-winning Burstyn has ever appeared in an Exorcist sequel, and her return to the horror movie franchise instantly gives the project prestige.
Burstyn didn’t star in any of the previous Exorcist sequels or prequels, which included Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977), The Exorcist III (1990), Exorcist: The Beginning (2004), and Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist (2005).
Assuming the exorcist believer turns out well, it's set to be the beginning of a brand-new trilogy of films. The Exorcist reboot trilogy is the result of a $400 million blockbuster deal involving Blumhouse, distributor Universal Pictures, and rights holder Morgan Creek. In an interesting development, the second two films may end up creating the exorcist reaction by skipping theaters and debuting on NBC Universal's Peacock streaming service el exorcista.

I was about to go off and say that don't U dare ruin not only one of the greatest horror movie, but also one of the greatest films of all time, but this concept actually looks pretty good. I haven't been to the movies for almost 10 years, because there haven't been any film that's worth checking out, but I might just go see this. Good job.

I'm in my 50's and till this day...The most scariest, mind numbing movie I have ever seen,it was the first of its kind..no one has ever seen anything like this, never seen a movie that had people fainting, ambulances outside the theater on stand by...I remember standing in line and it was wrapped around the corner, I cut school to go see it,at that time...the worse decision I ever made...I remember, just the sound of the music during the opening credits, and then so big red letters popped on the screen, people started running out of there,AT THE VERY BEGINNING!!!!!! I remember closing my eyes and covering my ears, this movie F'd me up...I was cool during the day Time but at night...for 2 weeks...couldn't sleep at all...never in my life time has a horror movie messed with me like...even to this day...I'm not watching it at night...at all!!!...lol

Well, first things first. Great concept trailer. Well done.. My concern is that the original Exorcist film was so much more than the average person realizes. It's about doubt, faith, guilt, sacrifice, reconciliation of faith, science with the human condition; " can ya help an old alter boy father , I'm a catholic " Such a rich tapestry of themes that make the original great. So I will watch the new instalments expecting horror and nothing more. If I get more, then fine.

My parents never let me watch Exorcist (1973) because how much dark it is. They wanted to protect me from it. When I watched it the first time, I felt shivers down my spine. I felt truly scared. I felt each character's emotions. It was so powerful.
As one commenter said there's no light or happy ending. It's dark and evil. After the movie I couldn't sleep at nights. It took me long awhile to recover. If this sequel can do it, I'll be first to send regards.

Let me clarify this for everyone, The Exorcist isn't just the scariest movie ever made, it's thee most powerful MOVIE ever made. No piece of cinema ever had this affect on people or society and that's a fact. My son is nearly 15 and I still haven't let him watch it yet, along with a bunch of other movies. He handles horror very well so I finally made him understand why by tell him this, I said son, "You're not getting it, it's not that you're necessarily going to be scared to death or freaked out by it. It's just that The Exorcist is the only movie I've ever seen that just feels.......... evil. There's like nothing good about it outside of the fact that it's a great movie. Nothing good happens in this film, not one thing. There is no light at the end of the tunnel, happy ending, or one single part that makes you feel "good". Roger Ebert said something great in his first review, "It's an attack." And in my opinion, nothing really good comes out of watching it. It's the darkest movie ever made every step of the way. The entire vibe, mood, etc., is just grueling. Again, to summarize, the most powerful movie ever made.

    • @WilsonCleveland2

I guess I disagree that nothing good happens and that it’s dark every step of the way. There’s an authentic, loving mother-daughter bond. Reagan survives with no memory of her experience. Her mom’s gonna buy her a horse… I’m also not at all religious. The darkest movie I’ve ever seen is Requiem for a Dream.

    • @edisons.7637

@@WilsonCleveland2 There's an authentic mother-daughter bond? lol That's not "something good happening". And them being happy together lasts like 3 minutes. Second, The fact that Reagan not remembering how horrific her experience was, is the ONE thing you can bring up, that again, happens for 2 minutes at the very end, just further drives the point home of how dark this movie is. You're grasping at straws my friend lol. And even though I'm a pretty big movie buff, Requiem has been on my "to watch list" because somehow it fell through the cracks for me. Everyone says it's great. But there's no freakin way Requiem isn't a happier movie than the Exorcist. I'd bet money on it.

I think kids of today laugh at the original mailnly 'cause they "have seen it all and worse" thanks to the internet. Kids today are exposed to so much today so many scenes in the movie isn't "anything new" to them. For us, seeing this movie back as an adult in the 70's or a teenager in the 80's it freaked most of us out as we had NEVER seen or experienced anything as scary, shocking and powerful. My son is 11 - (NO HE HASN'T WATCHED THIS MOVIE AND NEVER WILL) - what i wanted to say is he is 11 and watches a lot of "G" rated stuff to do with gaming on you tube BUT - every now and then an ad will pop up and it might be a trailer for a horror movie with no care in the world of rating or age appropriate viewing. Its here he is exposed to material that as kids WE never were. So kids laugh as its not shocking to them or scary etc etc as they have already been exposed to much worse... thanks to the internet.
I did know of someone who's daughter watched the original and did laugh at this movie and I later found out they tried to laugh its affects off - but instead this turned out to be a "I am shit scared" laugh and it messed them up for a few months and to this day they have not watched it since.
BTW - i am 51 and to this day struggle to watch the original as it still gets me everytime.....the original WAS AND STILL IS a very scary, disturbing and powerful film.

This trailer literally sent shivers down my spine. As always, your choice of visuals, music, and editing is brilliant. I also love how you practice restraint and preserve so much mystery. When I was 12, my mom went out one night and, even though I was scared of my own shadow, I decided to put on my big boy pants and stay home alone for the evening. It was the first time ever.
I don't remember what I was watching in the early evening, but by the time night fell, the commercial announced that The Exorcist would be the feature presentation. I had never seen it but I knew of it. Before I could think of changing the channel, the movie started and I got sucked in. Within the first few minutes, I was already scared. By the first hour, I was paralyzed with fear and couldn't move from the couch. My mom found me in the same position when she got home.
It's still the most terrifying movie I've ever seen. On a whole other level. It still scares me to this day, decades later. Absolute masterpiece.

I am still perplexed that Linda Blair would not have a part in this. I am excited by the fact that perhaps, finally, a true sequel is being made that might honor the original masterpiece. I did see the Exorcist in 1974 at the theatre. I was 14. Saw the Heretic in 1977 and what a disappointing mess that was. Have avoided every "money grab" sequel since.
It was probably 25 years ago but I do remember a sequel bouncing around about Regan, now grown and married with a child of her own and the child becomes demon possessed. I always thought that this idea was brilliant and that some of the principles could be involved. Perhaps even Billy might have been interested in directing. One last thought and it is important to me. I do hope that the director keeps CGI to a minimum... and I mean very little in the sequel.

    • @WilsonCleveland2
      @WilsonCleveland2  2 года назад +2

Thanks for watching‼️ I suspect Regan may have died in this new movie which would give Chris MacNeill a reason to help the new character and his daughter. Exorcist II is a train wreck but you MUST see Exorcist III. Blatty directed based on his Exorcist sequel novel, “Legion.” It follows Kinderman, Fathers Karras and Dyer. It’s scarier than the original in my opinion.

The scariest element of the original movie was Pazuzu, the demon. The flashes of his face (played by Eileen Dietz) were far more terrifying to me than any scene of the possessed Reagan. To this day, seeing that face still gives me a jolt.
Seeing that face in this trailer makes me think this movie might be a worthy sequel. I didn't care for the cheap jump scare at the end of the trailer and I hope they keep that to a minimum in this movie.

I think it fails at the end. "The Exorcist" franchise needs to comeback to the roots. To be more subtle, atmospheric, without soundtrack (maybe some eerie ambiental noises) or those X-Men shit with things flying in every moment.
I'd prefer the A24 studio conducting this project and I hope the director of this sequence watches the original and takes notes from every frame of it. Otherwise, it will be just one more money threw out.

    • @WilsonCleveland2

I have dreaded this day, in which a remake of the most profoundly disturbing piece of cinema ever to come out. As most comments suggest, to watch this movie felt as if this wasn't meant for a humans eye. My mother's twin sister had gone to see this at the movies when it came out. She left before it finished. So, when it was revamped a few years back with the scenes that weren't shown in it's original release. My mom out of nowhere, asked my sister and I to go see what had shaken her twin, so bad. Despite the cringe worthy moments of the certain phrases between the mother and daughter, my mom literally had tears in her eyes, the whole time. The tears when something is so offensive to your personal Constitution. I hope this has success for the ones involved in this remake, but I can't risk having the way I feel about this movie, "cheapened" for lack of better term. It's that powerful to me. Nothing has come close and nothing ever will
