Nice review Todd. I haven't jumped up to a full blown coating yet. I am using Polishangel Viking Coat at the moment which I absolutely love. So easy to apply and remove and provides stellar results with really good hydrophobic properties. I maintain it with Viking Spritz and also have their Glisante' wash for bucket washing although I primarily am doing rinseless washes as of late because I keep my car super clean. I have a red Nissan 370Z with super soft paint so I do tend to get some minor wash marring (even trying to wash as safely as possible) but nothing a quick fine polish won't remove. Getting ready to try Polishangel Escalate which I just got to bring back the finish to a super high gloss and re-apply Viking Coat. I previously did the entire car about two years ago using Master Compound and Master Sealant followed by the Viking Coat (which, with proper maintenance) has lasted me two years, although to be fair, the car isn't driven too often and is a garage kept weekend toy. When I do jump up to a full coating, it will definitely be a Kamikaze coating.

If we’re looking for the best durability possible, what would you suggest to do?
    I been thinking of using:
    1. Dedicated wheel coating as base layer
    2. Topped by a second layer of wheel coating or would you suggest using a professional grade, silica-based coating?
    3. And finalize with spray silica based “coating/ sealant”?

I literally had to use a can of degreaser on each rim to remove before using an IPA to prep before ceramic coating them. Took about 4 hrs per rim, and I have only done the rear 2 so far as it was raining so I could only jack the rears up in the shed, the fronts will have to wait until next week

    Todd,
I applied a coating to freshly repaired and powder coated wheels about 12 - 18 months ago. How would I clean and prep for a reapplication? I’m aware of the usual wash, tar, iron remover but don’t know if I should look at a clay mit or some sort of polish to ensure the surface can bond to the coating as best as possible. The wheels are matte powder coat and I’ve never polished powder coat, unsure how it would respond.

Too many variables, however you could expect up to a year with a few layers of Rim, and 2+ with MOHS or Stance. Morning Todd,
Do you recommend compounding and polishing before applying coating !
On the side note, where we can found wheel holder as one you have,
It will be much easier to work on, Thank you 👍🏼

You're not going to accomplish much by doing polishing on wheels. You could (on gloss wheels, of course), but diminishing returns happens fast. We custom made that stand in-house...makes a huge difference!

Question 1: I just bought your Kamikaze 2.0 wheel coating for my new BBS matte bronze wheels. Do I need to prep the wheels first? They are brand new wheels. I don’t have any wheel prep spray but I do have isopropyl alcohol which I was planning on using to make sure no dust or anything was on the surface.
Question 2: is Kamikaze ceramic coating safe for the matte finish on my BBS’s?
Question 3: I want to use the remainder of the coating for some carbon fiber bits I ordered, how long is the ceramic coating good for once the bottle is opened and is it safe for parts other than wheels?
    Thanks!

Thank you for your order. IPA should be fine, and coatings are safe for satin / matte finishes. Coatings are usually fine after opening for about a month or so, provided it is kept out of the extreme cold or heat.

On the second coating of the wheel do you also wipe again with a microfiber towel after letting sit for required times to get high spots as shown after the first coating

    • @Esotericdetail

Second coat is applied exactly the same as the first coat, with the exception of a Prep wipe down.

    hey Todd, awesome vid.
unrelated to wheels but i got my vehicle ceramic coated after a fresh paint job. I had ordered oem decals to stick on to the car but did not come in time before getting it coated. question is.. can I stick oem decals on the car after the ceramic coating or is that not reccommended?

It really depends on the coating. I've seen them go on without any issues, and I've seen them have extreme difficulty with adhering to the surface. Might as well give it a try!

After coating my wheels, is it ok to use a product like seal and shine after a maintenance wash to enhance the shine?

    • @Esotericdetail
      @Esotericdetail  Год назад

I've never heard of that product, so I can't comment on that. But if you're applying coating to a gloss wheel, using another (less expensive) product shouldn't "enhance the shine".

A few questions I do have is this pls. Once you have coated do you use any other product throughout the year such as wax etc fir added protection and is there anything that we may use in our regular car cleaning that you should def not get on the coated wheel that may remove the coating? Thanks

Our preferred maintenance product for coated wheels is Polishangel Supersport. As for wheel cleaning, just avoid cleaners that aren't pH neutral. Here's the Supersport: www.esotericcarcare.com/polishangel-supersport-ptfe-wheel-coating/

Just get yourself a good adhesive remover and let it soak for a while. It will take some effort, but they'll come off eventually.

If you try to do them immediately afterwards, then possibly yes. But if you're talking down the road 6 months or so, it shouldn't be an issue.
