Interesting work. It would be better if the whole rivet was yellow hot then inserted. That way the rivet expands into the hole and contracts when cold giving a much better stronger joint.
Yea that's how it was done. Watching old films on RUclips of the guys building the Empire state building you see a forge on each floor and one guy would pitch a hot rivet up to the riveter and he'd catch it in a metal basket, put it in the hole with tongs and air hammer it home.
You need to grind off the mushrooming of that stamper tool, it will break off and can shoot off like a bullet, it happened to my dad, he had a shard of meddle in him for 20 years, not safe, but nice technique 👍🏻
Nice job. This is just a thought you might want to trim the boogers off your mushroom punch so they don't fly off and hit you in the face just a thought.
Those men one with the torch and other with the hammer they work for years and they know put ribets for long time skills learn for years of "practice" on working!!!! Congratulations good work, hard economical in Pakistán, no easy life, give blessins.
Nice job , hope the rivets hold well and not like the Titanic ship's ... the punch holder can use an extension so he can save his hand..... you wouldn't know when he wins an argument with the guy with the hammer...😄
When I was a kid in the early 60's, my dad and I were eating a sandwich. He started picking a callus he had in the palm of his hand and dug out a sliver of steel that he said must have come from a chisel 5 years prior.
Not even tidy , most of the old ship yards wouldnt have accepted those rivets , they were only hot at the end ,,, real hot riveting has the rivets glowing so they pull in tight as they cool , not just so the head snaps easily. At 4:00 the guys sitting holding the '' hot rivet '' laughable, not incredible.
Not only that, but the rivet has to be hot inside the hole so when it is upset, it expands to fill the hole completely. Just mushrooming the head is not good riveting.
Holding that mushroom headed riveter with bare hand is totally dangerous and not safe... Provide a holding tool or handle for that riveter ... So "Safety first"... Then do any work...!!!
They should really put a handle on that riveting tool. Also grind the mushrooming off... 30 min job could save someone's hand for the rest of there life.
Worked in large maintenance departments for 50 years and never saw any one hot rivet. Another lost trade. I know that the ship yards switched from hot riveting to welding for faster assembly and more dependable. Guess same for all steel i beam building construction.
Judging by the size of that frame it’s a big truck! Those rivets are not big enough especially the way they OVERLOAD the trucks, trains, motorcycles hell even bikes!!
Yeah, god forbid that people are entitled to a fair living wage and a safe working environment. I'm sure you'd agree to work under those conditions and for their pay.
@@christopherlee627 OSHA has NOTHING to do with pay. And as far as a safe working environment, yes that should be an option but you should not be forced to wear anything you don't want to.
You got the oxygen turned up so high it's trying to cut the rivet before it gets evenly heated ... Back off that oxygen just a touch and it'll heat up faster an more even instead of blowing metal off of it.
These are the trucks other videos show that the axel pulls out when they pull it out of the ditch! That’s not near as strong as the rivets that didn’t hold the Titanic together!
И ведь промажет, иного не дано! Металл для ручек дефицит, а рук много, фиг с ними, с руками, следующие найдутся. А вообще, чистой воды дифференциация по мозговому признаку.
That isn't proper hot riveting. The entire rivet has to be glowing ornage hot, then inserted into the hole and then hammered over. Otherwise, the shank of the rivet doesn't shrink at the same rate and as such, in due time the rivet will fail or the riveted parts will move.
No good just heating the end and bashing it over. The whole rivet needs to be hot, so when it cools it contracts and squeeze's the joint tight. These rivets will come loose very quickly.
That’s True! That’s why back in the day you would see Cherry Red rivets getting tossed from Heater to the riveters! Once that rivet cools it ain’t going anywhere!
Ditto - I have done this in shipbuilding where you couldn't get an air jack in, but for regular accessible work, orange to red rivet heat minimum with air jack or lever holdup. The whole rivet needs to be hot to cool/contract and bring faying surfaces more tightly together.
this is not amazing. This technique has been used for more than a century, it has been used in the construction of skyscrapers in the United States, on bridges and more. It is called hot riveting.
Trust: 100
I know! 😬😱⚒️
LOL, no shit!!!!!👍
For some reason accurately swinging a hammer like that comes natural if you don't try too hard. You will hit where you are looking.

Yup.. and they will..
What they really need to do is to wear some safety gear ie boots gloves and safety glasses
It makes for a larger target
I squinted when he was swinging that hammer lol makes me nervous
I agree 100%, that's the only flaw in their process, everything else is safe 😅✌🏼
Oh my gosh! I used to cold rivet and hot rivet when I was younger. Lol. This video took me back to the 80’s.

It's a pretty safe technique, almost impossible to hurt the worker, hahahaha
