super excited to be sharing a quick (and very unglamorous) vlog documenting one of my overnight shifts on trauma surgery. hope this gives y'all a little taste of what m3 and the surgery clerkship are like. i'm officially halfway through with the third year of med school now (!!) so please let me know if you'd like to see more of these, and any questions you might have.
thanks for sticking around, hope to be back soon! 🤞🏻

Currently a pre-med and this lowkey is terrifying to me I love sleep lol. Do you really have to be up for 24 hours if needed??

short answer, no! we get to choose which surgical subspecialties we rotate through and trauma is one of the few that requires 24 hr call. plenty of my friends did surgical subspecialties that had more traditional hours.
also wanna mention that surgery (at my school) is just a 10 week block, and my trauma rotation was only a month long! so, yes, the hours are long on surgery, but if you know it's not the lifestyle you want to live in the long term, it's a really short period of time in the grand scheme of things. don't be discouraged!

I know that this question may seem weird.. but it is a question that I've always wanted to ask a med student/surgeon.
Do you ever lose your appetite after surgery due to seeing so much blood? 🩸💉
