- I have owned my 1996 Chevy K1500 Silverado for 4 years. I just recently turned over 250,000 miles. Was it worth own the truck for this long? Here is a run down on what it is like owning one and the issue that arise at 250,000 miles.

Brother, haters gonna hate.... Don't listen to them. I've watched your videos and I absolutely love the passion you have for your truck. It's a beautiful machine really. I don't own one, but I'm looking for one. I'm in Canada and they've largely been ravaged by rust and abuse. Hard to find one in decent condition. But as you said at the end of your video, never give up on your dreams. That's one of my dreams. To own a fantastic vehicle like this. Well done. Keep up the good work

I love these. I had a 1997 Chevy Suburban C1500 (2wd) all original with 91,500 miles when I bought it.
It was $9,500 at a dealer and sadly, I was working part time washing dishes at a steakhouse, I had a $300/month payment plus full coverage insurance ($177, I’m barely 24 now), maintenance with 1800 miles a month put on it when it had never had a fifth of that per month before I got it, so things definitely broke lol.
I couldn’t keep it :( couldn’t afford it.
Now I work remotely and make 6 figures, I’m going to get a 96-99 Tahoe 4dr 4x4 with 150k miles or less and moving to Wyoming from Texas

Just bought a perfect one 1996 ck 1500 today at 170000 miles runs like a champ gunna lift it and black it out

If you never put 2 and 2 together. If a harmonic balancer goes bad, and you don't catch it fast enough. It will cause the truck to run unbalanced, then it'll take the crank, and main bearings out. I agree. They are bulletproof as long as you take care of these old trucks.

My 91 obs Chevy was stolen 4 years ago well I fockin found it. It's missing a door a window the intake and tbi. I've been rebuilding it because I had so many good memories in this truck and it's cheaper to fix it then buy a brand new truck

I have a 98 K1500 and I beat on it Dailey and it has 254,XXX miles and it still gets me to work and everywhere with no problems

don't use wd-40 as lubrication. it is a rust remover though its very good at lifting rust. you want some kinda spray grease or graphite spray for doors.
Lithium grease for metal on metal contact points works best
Love the obs trucks keep up the build man love the build Ben building mine since I got mine 97 k1500 3door 3" lift beside that bone stock mine as 327,000 miles and still runing strong

I have a obs from 96 with close to 260k, it has the 5.0 but gives me no problems, of course with regular maintenance. I love my truck, def would recommend for a first truck for a new driver!

Mines at 154k and seeing that people have had this at 300k miles is crazy for sure a dream truck

Beautiful truck man, she’s gorgeous. I also got a 1996 K1500 Silverado with 225K on the dash needs some loving and TLC but she’s a runner, starts up on the first try in the heart of winter, I took the side plastic molding off of each side because I’m from Buffalo to help prevent moisture getting trapped underneath, but your truck is awesome man keep the videos coming 💯💯

Picked one up not to far from Knoxville for free about a month ago had an issue with the ignition but got it fix. She’s a little rough has a little over 224xxx but hell she runs.

Mine is a 1996 chevy silverado z71 but my engine is a 5.0 engine with 241,000 but it runs great no check engine light on.mine does burn oil but I have excellent oil pressure all the time
ive got a c1 96 that was treated like a work truck but mostly no rust on the body and it is a bitch replacing ac o2 oil filters etc front and back bumpers cracked tail likes cracked from previous owner and all im doing is trying to get it into decent operation to drop it on custom k1 frame and good lord im afraid to redo the interior after seeing how hard the ex has been BE CAREFUL WITH YOURE PANELING GUYS BECUASE ITS APPERNTLY NOT CLEAR CONCEPT

A big part of why you’re rpm’s are so low at 80 is the wheels and tires. The rear gearing makes a difference but not 800+
I have a 98 c1500 160k on it. Bought it new. Mine has heartbeat on the tailgate. That’s a 4x4 not the z71 package
You don’t have a c1500 that’s 4wd
250k on these trucks is still fairly young for them old 350s. Seen em running around at 400k still running better some newer trucks
Mines currently kissing 280k and only just gave me its first issue, which was just normal tune up. (Plugs weren't changed before I got her and one literally shattered)

I just got my 2 owner grandpa garage kept 1994 GMC Sierra 2500 Single Cab Long bed with 160k original miles. Original silver and black 2 tone paint and zero rust. Frame has minimal surface rust. Im going to fine tune it so its as if its 1994 all over again lol.

Great trucks. I love the obs, but also love the 99-05 style, which is what I have. 2000 GMC sierra 1500 z71 with 318k miles and running strong. Only ever replaced the transfer case. Original engine and transmission. It's in pretty good shape with some chunky 305/70 R16s on the stock wheels, but I'm going to fully restore it, put a lift and some better wheels.

Hey man those cab corners are by no means horrible but u should get the cut out and new ones put in before that rust spreads mine looked like you'res 3 years ago and i just replaced em myself ( wasent to bad if u can weld) in 3 years they rotted complete out and I take care of my truck. Just don't wanna see your truck rot out its in too good of shape :)

Yeh but the body is just plastic on 2018 , reason why I'm going obs, I've had an obs n crashed Into a 2005 crew cab and destroyed that truck, my obs just had a cracked grill , bent bumper n misaligned fender , so yeh definitely sticking to true obs

Mine too in 96 you had to special order it with the 3rd door in 97 or 98 it came standard
The third door came out on the 97 year model, but th e97 design was available before the end of the year. I bought a new 1996 Silverado in March of 96, and the 97 models were available toward the end of the year.

You giving us the info on what you delt with replaced and all those things, other people could have replaced 1 thing by the time its hit 250k or they could of gone through 2 different motors. who knows.
