After listening to few of your more recent videos, I had thought to myself how much I would love to hear you talk to the topic of the French Revolution..I was so excited to find part 1 of 4. Thank you so so very much for your time. Your videos are so rich in not only education but also production quality. Bravo!!
Very interesting video! The bourgeoisie is basically a fancy word for "capitalist". Petty-bourgeois or petit-bourgeois is small owner e.g. peasants, small handicraftsment, small business owners etc. Proletarian is also basically a fancy word for "wage-laborer" who owns no means to employ himself like the peasants for example did. As a Marxist I largely agree with your portrayal of the marxist view. The French revolution was initially a bourgeois-democratic revolution i.e. anti-feudal, anti-monarchy and the result of the growing struggle of the capitalists against the feudal aristocracy for economic power that developed as a result of the natural development of capitalism. As you said there were many parts in it, Jacobins, Napoleonic 'counter-revolution' and so forth. Feudal relations naturally fall apart as commodity production (production of products for sale and not for personal use) develops in the countryside. Capital starts to accumulate in the hands of the well-to-do peasants who became capitalistic (start to hire laborers, rent land, speculate in the market etc.) while the small peasants are ruined and go bankrupt because they cannot compete in the market against the wealthy peasants. This creates the two new social classes, capitalists and proletarians which did not exist in feudalism. Ruined peasants go from small owners to proletarians and big peasants develop into rural and eventually urban capitalists. Marxism doesn't claim that the bourgeois and aristocracy were completely separate and contradictory. The feudal aristocrats became more bourgeois as time went on and so on. There are always contradictions among different capitalists, some favoring monarchy and others not. The same goes for the clergy who were basically feudal landlords also became more bourgeois.
im not sure why i find it so nice and kind for people to make educational videos like these to help people but damn does it make me smile, thank you for the video!
I like watching your videos on topics I'm currently learning in European History class. I just finished reading all about the French Revolution today starting with The Estates General being called and the National Assembly forming to the execution of Robespierre. : D
I love these videos Bc ur voice is so relaxing and I love asmr and history is perfect Bc it BORES ME SO MUCH IT PUTS ME TO SLEEP I CANF EVEN PAY ATTENTION
The revisionist and post-modern interpretations have put more effort in attempting to disprove the Marxist analysis than they have in actually presenting their own coherent understanding of the revolution.
