- We thought it would be fun to compare a 4x5 film photography camera against the Fujifilm GFX 100s medium format digital camera...comment below if you thought they were pretty similar! This video wasn't a true comparison and was more for fun! If you'd like to buy a print from this video, here is the link: archiefilms.pi...

If you don't make some large prints I don't see how you can do a comparison. Looking on a phone or a computer screen it's kind of pointless.
Sadly the analog/digital hybrid process is mostly about scanners. So the comparisons are usually completely pointless if you don't know enough about scanning, or have access to drum scanner. The actual comparison should be always made as a print.
For sure! This is was more for fun anyway and I was curious what the depth of field would look like between the two...plus RUclips compresses it so much anyway haha
The reason I prefer the film over digital camera is that the computer doesnt always get what I want to photograph such as the one on 4:35 where it blurs the background. Now, It may may be that he set it to do that. That doesnt mean that I would not use it and just play with the settings until I got a pic that I liked. I also like the longevity of the film that it cant just disappear due to a hard drive failure or mistakenly deleting a folder. On my S5 phone, I don not like how sunsets where there is a salmon colored hue to the clouds is recorded as a brightness of goldish yellow. I think film would recreate that with more fidelity given the experience of using that and knowing how the camera settings would influence the brightness of the final image.
it's only because two autists don't understand how to compare cameras:)
Having used both, the main problem with view cameras is film flatness in the film holder. Compared to a digital camera, there is no comparison.
The most failure is that photographers are using already Lightroom for a camera like the gfx series or higher. That’s the biggest mistake
why shoot fuji wide open all the time? not a consistent comparison :(
Hey, this is a really relaxing video.
Love the style.
I learned on 35mm film but Large format would be the only thing that could tempt me back to those days.
Probably getting a GFX 50s this year.
I also learned on 35mm! Film is so fun but I'm loving the GFX 100s to be honest. I've tried the 50s and I almost like the colors better from the 50s vs the 100s!
@@bradenarchinuk ah that's good to know.
I don't neeeeees the medium format but I sure do lust for that look.
There's some sort of magic going on.
Very good guys, PHOTOGRAPHY for me it's just hobby but never used large format only digital a big hello from Portugal.
I use both film and digital so I totally understand. It's fun to experiment with both! Obrigado!
Could have used a few close-ups in the comparison. Like cactus thorns. And maybe use the same tripod next time so they are similar perspectives.
Just wondering what brand of 2?/3 way tripod head used on the 4X5 camera is. Looks very stable for my old series 1 Gitzo tripod.
Thanks🙂
My buddy said "It’s called a tiltall. Manufactured by Uniphoto Corp. It’s old, it’s just what my dad had lying around. My experience is that it’s good but not great for stability"
Were the 100s pictures edited? Also what do you think about the new 100 II?
Yes I edited the photos in Lightroom! I attempted to match the photos to the same colors as the large format film photos. As for the 100s II it looks really awesome for those who can afford. I'm not really at the point of spending that much so Ill stick with my 100s for now which gives me some incredible photos. I'll probably try to make a video soon on the 100s ii!
Wish it was detailed. It was exactly like you described in the shorts just longer. Hope to see actual comparison and not a elongated short.
I agree! It was more of a comparison for fun, just to see what they looked like next to each other. If I do one again, I'll make sure to analyze and compare more thoroughly! Thanks for watching anyway :)
nice vibe, was really nice to watch while sitting in the dark rainy winter over here :D
glad to hear you enjoyed it! Where are you located?
@@bradenarchinuk Budapest, Hungary
@@danielfulop I've always wanted go to Hungary! It'd be amazing to do a photo walk through Budapest!
there's some banding on the GFX but seems the 4x5 doesn't have that, otherwise it's hard to say there are benefits for the 4x5 film
i hope more people start making large format digital cameras
The benefits of 4x5 cameras are in reality the movements. You can get really funky perspective shifts or portraits from the side where both eyes are in focus etc. If you’re not using movements then you’re better off with something else.
@@maxieboy well i was talking about the film specifically
i do enjoy large format cameras though (digital) and wish there were more
For headphone users, please make the mic stationary so your voice level doesn't change all the time between our ears 😭
😂sorry about that! I'll keep that in mind next time I film!
How many megapixels is the 100s in 4x5 crop?
If I'm not mistaken, a 4x5 with the same pixel density would be around 1024mp.
@@Lizardheim that’s not what I’m asking. I’m wondering how many megapixels the Fuji is when shooting in 4x5 aspect ratio
Clickbait got me
I'm glad it worked 😂
@@bradenarchinuk No, it didn't because in the end most are disappointed because the images are not well compared (detail) and you don't offer an opinion in the end.
I love my 4x5 ! A+
Good to hear! I Would love to get into it but maybe not yet!
First
How'd you get here so quick 🤣
