great video... how do you scan your film?? looks so clean and crispy .. 👌
Thank you! Most of these were scanned by Photovision up in Salem, Oregon. I just ship them my film and they take care of it all. Expensive but I'd rather the professionals do it haha
I am a 'Pentaxian' shooting mostly a Pentax 645z, but when shooting film I chose the Bronica GS-1 over the more ubiquitous Mamiya RB/RZ series. The Bronica was more compact and had full flash sync due to the leaf shutter lenses. The Pentax has some fatal flaws, and those are the violent vibrations caused by the film plane shutter and mirror slap.
Biggest downside of this thing is the abysmal flash sync speed, shortly followed by the mirror slap and lack of interchangeable backs. If you're shooting outside that's fine but it essentially rules it out for studio work. There's a reason virtually all of the larger format 120 cameras had leaf shutters.
Get a grip! And by "grip" I mean the wooden handle - c'mon, you can't have a 67 without the Wooden Handle!
😂hahaha the camera is already so big. not sure if I want to deal with a big ol wooden grip on top of it but maybe I should look into it
@@bradenarchinuk Mate, it settles all arguments: Someone giving you crap for not shooting digital? So? This has a wooden handle. No autofocus? Wooden handle. Only eight shots? WOODEN. HANDLE.
Just got mine and I'm LOVING it!
It's so much fun getting scans back and looking at the results!
I’ve owned one from new, way back then it was highly regarded, especially for fashion photography.
It is main rental camera to pros shooting in So-Cal on assignment!
Whaaa? I didn't know you could rent one. Where at?
Yeah, they were THE workhorse magazine camera. It was said that the Hasselblads with the Zeiss lenses were technically sharper (though I'd reckon Pentax is right up with them), but the 6x7 meant you didn't have to crop them as much to fit magazine pages - maybe the Pentax lenses weren't quite as razor sharp as Zeiss, but whatever resolution you gained from zee German glass you more than lost on the page. I still maintain Pentax is most underrated camera brand. These guys did more for photography than most care to remember, but they weren't sexy.
I have two 6x7s and I bought a 3D printed right grip for them. It makes them feel more like a modern DSLR and it makes holding it a lot more secure if you don't like using a strap. Try the 35mm pano adapter. You'll love the panoramic shots.
I've wanted to get a pano adaptar for a while. Seems like so much fun haha. I'll have to check it out 👌🏼
I used my twp 6x7 bodies for 35 years before getting one of those 3D printed accessory hand grips. It's the best thing I ever bought for the camera. I normally have the Pentax left hand grip on each body as well. As for the 35mm pano adapter, I own one of best sets, but I think it's a waste of money. If you shoot a lot of panos, then find a camera dedicated to them. If you shoot only one or two once in a while, just shoot full frame and crop down to the pano format. What little cost of film you save with the pano adapter is more than offset by the hassle of having to unload each roll and hand rewind the 35mm cartridge in a dark bag, plus fussing around with the adapters when load each 35mm roll. The 105mm 2.4 was a good choice in a "norml" lens when you could buy one anywhere anytime for $150 or less. However, at the current pricing thanks to all the social media hype over it, at $600+, it's sucker bait - total waste of money. The 90mm is a better lens by every measure, and the 165mm 2.8 for portraiture, gives less facial distortion, has shallower depth of field (if that's your goal), and costs around $135-175..
Yes, I have learned having a medium format camera you more or less forced to take pictures of old cars and abandoned buildings. Preferable with Portra 400. After taking a digital image of the film you stare in Lightroom at the beauty of it. Nevertheless I owned and liked the Pentax67 system. Especially the variety in lenses.
Haha yup! Love me some Portra 400
That third shot Montenegro?
Banff National Park in Canada 👌🏼
Great shots!
Super helpful info, thank you!
This 75 is great on the 645, 645n and 645nii - often overlooked as a kit lens, it has so much character and is a good pairing here on the 100s. Nice video!
Hmmmm, I hope he was spoofing over-the-top misguided film hipster attitudes and that this doesn’t reflect his true beliefs…
nice photos!
The most failure is that photographers are using already Lightroom for a camera like the gfx series or higher. That’s the biggest mistake
how to you find the fokus on manual lenses with a gfx? fokuspeaking? or just trust your eyes? greets BM ooh...sorry, i have seen, the same question with answer late... ;-)
Underrated channel tbh. Great content!
So cool!
oh wow! these all look soo nice! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! I appreciate you watching 👌🏼
great shots! thanks for sharing!
Man what a great trip to include with the amazing photos and videos! Looks amazing and the work you do is BEAUTIFUL!
Looks amazing dude! I need to add a drone into my arsenal one day!

So sick. Great shots and video

Keep up the work, it looks amazing.
I love the feel of your videos!!
Thank you! I appreciate the support
I got pentax 6x7 this year.
What do you think? Do you like it?
@@bradenarchinuk I like it a lot. It is a bit of work, but in the end, it is worth it. I developed films at home, and it was challenging when I did color films. Those photos came out really great.
What kind of mic are you using?
Sony Tx650. It's a voice recorder but works great as a portable and discreet mic
Do you sell your prints off of Photo Vision? The prints you have on your website.
No I use PicTime who sources them from certain print shops, most popular being BayPhoto.
Braden, you're awesome. love the uique advice. Do you know where we can find what lenses master photographers of the pas used? Is there websites or resources for all filmic portrait lenses? Primarily, I love the Yousef Karsh, or or the Herman Goering portrait style. You know that painterly look... Oh btw, all vintage lenses need to be focused manually, is that right? Can't use our auto focus / meter on them? Also, did you capture the videos of Anna with the GFX 100s? And what else do you recommend for replicating film? Filters you use or suggest?
Thanks for commenting and supporting! Not sure of any websites off the top of my head. I could probably find some and let you know. Vintage lenses are typically manual focusing yes. You'd have to turn it with your hand and look through the viewfinder to make sure your focus is right. Takes practice but becomes easy after a bit. The videos I capture on my channel are with the Black Magi Pocket Cinema Camera 6K. Photos are taken with my GFX 100s! To replicate film, the best will always be shooting actual film (which I highly recommend, it's so much fun). If you want to take digital photos that look like film, you could use presets or profiles. I personally use the Archetype Process but I've heard good things about Mastin Labs. You could also use diffuser filters to add a softener to some of your images but I don't recommend that.
@@bradenarchinuk Thank you for those two colour filter apps. Such your channel is new, I would love to see a video about your journey, your favorite photographers, and who and what resources you used to get started, looking back. That would be useful for newbies and easy follows. I look forward to your next video.
dude, you're awesome. love the advice.
Thanks man! Gonna reply to your other comments here in a little bit
I love your content, very high quality and informative. Have you thought we can do for getting large format quality (400mp-700+mp) in film or digital? It's ben 49 years since digital took over, and yet the best we can do is Phase One 150MP with a shity 24mm fixed lens, or a Fuji 100MP with a 400MP multiple shot for still / archival. It seesm if we want wall prints, the only solution is to lug around a 30lb large format, but what a hassle. Do you see any know of any unconventional solutions? Have you tried printing a 100MP poster, I think you should do a video on your Fuji as to how large prints would looks, from poster, wall sized, to billboard. Get Fuji to sponsor and print houses. I am betting on you.
"Have you ever printed a billboard for fun?" lol fuckin unhinged and I'm here for it.
@@scotttuckerphotography "Have you ever looked into the mirror and wanted to end thyself because you're so imb.ed?" lmfao.
I mean, if you leave something on the side of the road, especially on a curb that’s on you… lol most people when they see something on a curb go oh cool, free stuff lol
Oh totally haha, it was my fault for leaving it there. Just wish people left it alone 😂
Braden, what camera did you record this video with? Looks amazing in motion.
It was the Black Magic Pocket Cinema 6K! A beautiful camera 👌🏼
The portraits were amazing dude!
Thanks man! Glad you liked them 👌🏼
Ooooof that’s brutal 😂
Love the tone of this video. Your work is amazing!
Thank you! 🙌🏼
wonderful shots! and the colors 😍😍
and you sold me this 55mm lens!!
Glad you liked the video. The lens is incredible
Got some amazing shots!
Thanks man!
Booked a trip there because of this video 😤
I've been seeing insane deals all month, definitely a good time to book a trip haha
Incredible shots! Can’t wait to get a print
I put the link in the description to buy one 👌🏼
Skin tone looks better on Hassy. Can always put softening filter or in post to soften pics. Fuji gives more red on skin. Red on skin is a digital thing that didn’t happen with film and the 3 layers of color of film. But happens on most bayer system
why shoot fuji wide open all the time? not a consistent comparison :(
Never understood these pretentious engagement/pre wedding shoots. Yes, it’s more revenue for the photographer but so cringeworthy when people look back at them in the future. People will be asking “Why you walking around in the desert with ya best clobber on?” 😂
Hard to compare these cameras when there is a lut thrown on them.
I’m gonna buy a DJI mini 1!
These shots are exceptional
Thank you!
What was it like manual focusing? Did you use any specific focusing settings in the camera?
Focusing wasn't too bad. I tried using focus peaking first and that honestly messed me up more than manually focusing. I'd say looking through the viewfinder you would be able to nail focus a majority of the time. I learned photography with manual focus shooting film so I felt like it was pretty easy!
Fuji glass has much more character
Agreed! Hasselblad lenses felt very clinical to me
