I have a Paperlike screen protector on my new iPad Air 4, and I LOVE it. It takes using the Apple Pencil to a whole new level. Note to new Paperlike users: My Apple Pencil squeaked a bit when I first applied the Paperlike, and I didn’t like that at all. Fortunately, the squeaking noise went away in less than one day. Now my my pencil “sounds” just like a pencil when I write with it. I can’t imagine my iPad without the Paperlike. The screen looks great with it on, too. It removes glare.
Jason, Great review. Thanks for your honesty about not really liking screen protectors, yet explaining the pros and cons of using this particular product. I especially love your explaining how writing on paper vs ipad screen worlds. Good job, Thanks again.
It is amazing when paired with the Apple Pencil. My penmanship is really good on actual paper, but was atrocious on the ipad. Once I added the PaperLike...Wow. 100% better. I love it!
I totally agree... note taking feels so much better. The apple pencil and ipad feel more like a useful tool with this screen protector. The slippery screen is a bit annoying without it. Thanks for the comment!
Nice! I think you’ll like it. I haven’t put mine on the 2021 iPad Pro yet. Not sure I want to give up the beautiful contrast just yet. But I have a paper like standing by. Enjoy. Thanks for watching the vid
@@iamjasonthompson I put the Paperlike on yesterday. Must say I think the screen got better without the glare. And writing. OMG. I divide the apple pencil experience in before and after the Paperlike :) So crisp and nice. Why haven't I bought one before?
Great to hear! Yeah I love it too… my only pro tip is…. Keep the surface safe the paper like is just plastic so it can get scratched. It will break your heart if it happens lol. Enjoy Magnus!
No it's not really wearing down the nibs on the apple pencil. I did buy a pack anticipating that. One thing I should mention... the protector is plastic so you start to see small scratches on it. Unlike the glass which is harder to scratch. If you're the type of person that hates seeing any scratches it may drive you nuts. Also, while fingerprints aren't as noticable... it still gets dirty. So you do have to wipe it clean. I still love it though. The order comes with 2 protectors so I'll be using it for the foreseeable future.
One more con for me is the buildup of scratches/scuffs on the Paperlike. I love the texture and writing/drawing experience, but even though I write lightly, occasionally I'll feel a grindy dragging sensation. Sure enough; a new scratch has been added to the screen protector. That shouldn't be so easy to do with light use from a smooth, plastic nib.
Totally, I mentioned that in another comment. I think the problem is, the screen protector scratches soooo much easier than glass. I notice my kids fingernails are leaving scratches. Time to get them their own iPad LOL
@@iamjasonthompson Agreed. If it were more durable, I would not have a single criticism for it otherwise. It has been excellent for use with the Apple Pencil. If the next iteration can address that issue, I'll likely order it.
Tough choice to use a protector, my option the same as you: I spent so much on these products mostly for the amazing quality of glass and resolution. BUT, the tactile for pen...I get it. Good review.
Agreed I hate changing the look and feel of the device I’m actually excited to just go with the paper like and the magic keyboard. I’m using a bulky Logitech keyboard currently. Thanks for checking out the content!
Hi Jason. Thanks for vid. Do you think that it will really protect your screen from scratches or damage? I want to get one when I purchase my ipad pro but since it's a pricey investment I want to make sure it stays in top condition. I'd pair it with a case of course.
Hi! It does protect against scratches. Things like having it in your bag or other items. I don’t see this stopping damage from a drop on pavement or anything. One thing to note, the protector itself isn’t scratch resistant. I’ve noticed small scratches on my first Paperlike. Just a heads up if that’s something that annoys you.
All paper screen protectors will reduce a lot of screen clarity, but I found that a removable paper screen film called HAOLOCM magnetic detachable protective film can improve this situation.
Never heard of that one. I’m going to be upgrading my iPad I’m going to do a video so show how much clarity degradation this one created. Thanks for watching the video!
Hey thanks for checking out the content! I use a Canon 6D Mark II with a sigma 24mm 1.4 for these talking head shots. I think the lens does most of the work as far as crispness.
The customer service is terrible, bought one on 2nd June and they shipped out a few days later. When I checked it says because it's free shipping and hence no tracking number. I mean why don't you offer it and make it clearer? I would have paid a little bit more to track the item and it is only a film. The product maybe good, but the customer service and response time just ruin the experience. There are alternatives and they deliver much faster.
Yeah my delivery took QUITE a while. I figured it was because it came from outside the states. fortunately I haven't had to deal with customer service, so I can't speak on it.
Fernanda Valdes nope doesn’t impact the brightness at all. The clarity or crispness is slightly impacted but over time it doesn’t really bother me. Think of it more like a matte or anti glare effect. Brightness remains
Glad it helped! Do be patient with the shipping time. Especially if you're in the US. Mine took a few weeks to arrive. I should have known when I paid Euros. Worth the wait though. :-)
Jason Thompson I bought it off of Amazon. It arrived yesterday but I was undecided on installing it until after I watched your video. I was mainly concerned with the visibility that a matte screen would result in, but I installed it this morning and it’s not that bad! For some reason I was expecting more “resistance” when writing but it’s a definite improvement.
@@ms8367 I was afraid I'd get a bogus copy from Amazon. But that was probably the fastest option. Agreed, on resistance . Like I was saying on another comment... it's more like a pen than a pencil level of resistance. I think making it too rough would ruin the touch experience. I'm not mad at the screen "fuzziness" you actually get used to it... I'm started to forget how it looked before I put it on. Enjoy! In going to get back into art with mine.
NhànAmy the people over at Paperlike designed this to work with Apple Pencil, so YES absolutely! They do make a size for the Air 2019 as well. Oh and you don’t have to call me Sir, Sir is my father 😁. Good luck I hope it makes your iPad more useful!
It's about the same as ... let's say a piece of standard printer paper. What it really comes down to is the pencil. It will still feel smoother than real paper and graphite because you're not feeling the graphite grind down. So it feels more like the speed / smoothness of a pen than a pencil.
Yeah I wasn’t thrilled about it either. But I am still using the first one of two that came with the order. It seems like prices are going up everywhere though. I saw an invisibleShield protector for the 11 inc for $43! 🤷🏽♂️
I guess you're right. That's the primary purpose. But a great secondary function is protecting the screen. I will say... It doesn't seem any less strong than those intended to protect the screen, so... win win.
I absolutely 100% don't recommend buying a paperlike screen protector unless you wanna burn your money to a single sheet of paperlike. So stupid. $39 for a single shit. You can order many good screen protectors from China. Don't get scam as paperlike does. I hope you all get what I wanna say. 😉. Think outside of the box.

Hi
Hi
1:06 Watch me try to explain my major fail!! Maybe you shouldn't install your Paperlike alone. 😂 What screen protector are you using?

Is there Paperlike for Samsung devices? For example Galaxy Tab S6? I never find to buy.
I believe Paperlike is only for iPads. But there are other matte screen protectors out there I’m sure
Awesome critique of this product. Great job! 😊
Do you think the apple pencil will get worn out faster with matte screen protector? What are your thoughts after using it for 1.5 months?

Amazing non sponsored review, well done sir. Is there enough of a gap to safely snap in and out of a ZUGU case without lifting?
Yes I would say so, it has a really tight fit, like you can’t just push it off like some other protectors.
Jason Thompson thank you!
