Sadly this skips over the (imho) more-interesting half of the story. While in jail, Eric caught the eye of Russian mobsters due to his high-bail, and was partially coerced into making even more fake chips for them after release. By the time he was caught again, it was believed with the number of chips he and the mob produced, a small-but-significant percentage of chips in all of Las Vegas were counterfeits. Due to the high-volume, and not every casino being able to catch/replace them all yet, some are still believed to be in circulation today.

@@DemandOnSports Can't tell you that you're wrong. But how much on RUclips is "new stories" when it comes to anything pseudo-documentary? Basically none.
There was a similar incident of chip fraud that happened in a well known home game club in Vancouver. Guys ordered the exact same chips from the same custom chip manufacturer with same specifications by just taking a few of the original game's chips and sending them in to the chip maker saying they needed replacements, so they were identical. It was actually ridiculously dumb that it worked. They got about $40K before the owners figured it out and they changed their system so people couldn't take chips out of the games (there were 3 locations that all used the same ones at the time). Since the games weren't legal, nobody went to the cops and they got away with it as far as i know. This also happened in toronto around the same time 15 years ago or so.
That bail amount ($5m each) is beyond crazy. Depending on jurisdiction bail for various types of murder ranges from several 100k to $1-2 million. Really shows that "the system" is more OK with you killing people than it is you mucking with their cashflow.
@@RainizLove Fair. But also the judge can require the source of the posted bail be demonstrated before it is accepted. It occurs to me that the bail amount is a catch-22 for these guys. It's basically saying "Hey if you have more illicit funds you can bring it to us and we will punish you more for having it" or you can just wait in jail. Because there is simply no way 2 guys in their position are ever posting a bail of $5m each legitimately unless they have like rich uncles who really like them or something. edit: PS - I should note they aren't really victims here given what they did. I just think bail is a larger issue and this is a crazy example of how it is frequently misused.
Sounds like the one guy recognized the dangers of trying to do too much, but the other guy had no self-control. There have been other cheating "duos" that got caught because one wanted to play it "safe", and the other partner went off the deep end with drugs and partying.
I never get it why people can be clever enough to pull a good scam up but then get to greedy and/or stupid and start living like a millionaire before they cash out and dip from there forma live.
I've never understood why these people don't just walk up to a craps table with a $500 or 1k fake chip. Get change, play for like 20 minutes, color up to real chips and then leave cashing out the real ones. There's far less scrutiny at the table, especially the chaos of a craps table with like 5 dealers.
The problem with using high-denom chips is that the casino keeps a pretty close eye on their inventory of those chips, as opposed to $100 and lower. You wouldn't be able to do that too many times before the casino is going to notice that they have more $1000 chips than they should, at which point they will start trying to figure out where the extras are coming from.
@@gregoryschmidt1233 yeah that's true, but they also could just walk to a table with 5 black chips and ask for change, same idea. Just surprised they always went straight to the cage. The real best way is to go to the poker room. You could have a rack with 5-10k in black chips (if the room has games that big like Bellagio) and they won't even unrack the chips before cashing them
I totally get the desire to fool around with loose women but just tell them you won some money on the lottery, or your parents are rich, no need to brag about being a criminal.

If each chip was slightly different, then the copiers, who make the chips all the same, would be found out. Therefore why not use small bits of paper with amounts written on in pen? Or better still, actual potato chips, which are all different and are already called chips? The so called experts can say what they want, but solving this problem takes only a bit of thinking from a regular Joe.
