Recently my PC was not turning on. The lights just flashed and the fan spun for a second or two and I was afraid in case it was a short on the motherboard but found out after testing that it was my PSU which failed. It's an Antec 700W and lasted about 1 year 7 months. Thanks for sharing :)
@@hunterbro924 hi there 👋🏻 a PC not turning on or turning on for a few seconds and off again could be one of many causes. You should test your power supply first to see if that's the faulty component.
I'm really hoping this is my problem. My computer was working earlier then I put it to sleep. And she never woke back up. 🤣 The fans do move for a second like you said but that's all. I hope like you said it's the power supply unit.
I had to do the same thing with my second PC two weeks ago and it also turned out to be a bad PSU. Fortunately nothing else on the system was damaged. The PSU in this case was an EVGA 500w that was just one month passed its five year warranty.
well done brian,a fantastic repair,i really enjoyed watching this, may i please ask brian, what is the make of your psu tester, and may i please ask, where you purchased it from.tanking you most kindly, stephen.
My previous PC had an off-and-on issue with not turning on (or rather, not booting) shortly before I built myself an all new PC. Turns out, it was that my GPU evidently didn't like to stay properly seated. After a little over 6 years of use, it just suddenly stopped staying put and kept shimmying out. It was the weirdest thing because I'm still using that GPU in my new PC (planning to upgrade if GPU prices drop due to the crypto crashes) and it never gives me that issue with this PC, so my guess is that it was the port on the old mobo.
My desktop pc had an issue where I always had to pull out power cord and plug back in ,then power button would turn on pc. I recently changed out Graphic cards taking out Asus Strix GTX1080,replaced with AMD 6650XT. power button is now starting pc as it should every time.
To be honest with the discription of the fault and what with the power tripping i would have just gone straight to the psu with my multimeter, allthough i like this checker tool bri has.
@@Britec09 appreciate your showing the non teccy people out there everything to check. Your average lay person is not going to have spare working parts at hand, so it makes Trouble shooting a little harder for them.
Hmm Brian had a similar situation with my old Sandy Bridge build just recently and I went through most of what you did except I did not use a new PSU. When I tried the paperclip trick with the PSU cable I got a small puff of smoke from near the end of the GPU and thought the motherboard was shot even though it still had some LEDs showing power. To cut a long story short I found the problem when I touched the GPU and found it wiggled around in it's slot because the original plastic clips that held the GPU in situ had got brittle and had broken off leaving the GPU loose in its slot so I screwed it into the case as I should have done when I built the machine. I gave the RAM sticks a reseating and voila' the machine fired up. So it goes to show one should check cable and card fittings before you do anything else and save yourself a lot of money. So all in all a simple fix for what I thought was a broken motherboard.😄

I ran into an issue with my current PC while building it. I have a Fractal Design Define Mini C and mounted a SATA SSD in the only place where I could which was on the right side of the case, just under the side panel. This was fine till I upgraded my components. The PC kept shorting when I turned it on and I tore it apart trying to find the cause. What had happened was that sliding the case side panel on had damaged the power connection on the SSD and it was dead as a dodo! I quickly ordered an M.2 as a replacement, and, fearing I'd knackered the GPU, I ordered one of them as well. The system is fine ever since and my niece is using the old GPU in her system as it turned out to be fine. It's a GTX 980ti but suits her needs.
