Tbh, the entire cast should. And the writers. And the producers. And everyone involved in making this piece of art. This show should be cleaning out awards left and right in the drama category during the next Emmy.
@@marilynmattu1024 speaking from experience, it would have been easier for them to come back from cursing each other out, or even throwing punches at each other. They both said the exact things to cut the other to their core, and they knew what would bother them the most. That is incredibly difficult to come back from.
The reason this fight cuts so deep for both Kevin and Randall is because they attacked each other’s biggest insecurities Kevin in multiple episodes has shown that at the back of his mind he always thinks his dad would be disappointed with him and Randall has always in some way felt rejected and ignored and that his brother hated him so telling him that he was the worst thing that ever happened to him cut deep
Anybody else crack up when Beth got the hell out of dodge twice? First when Rebecca made her announcement and second when she told Rebecca to get the girls and go lol. She knew it was about to hit the fan
YES!!! I love Beth, she just went out of the room when Rebecca told the twins and Beht telling Rebecca to leave with her and the girls to go site seeing!
If you think there's a team to pick here then you didn't understand a single thing to the show. This isn't your typical story with good guys and bad guys. This is a story about family painted in a realistic way, multilayered grey complex characters. They both said things they shouldn't have : Kevin with the whole blaming Jack's death on Randall and Randall with the whole dad dies ashamed of you. It felt raw and real, like a true family grudge from two broken family members still grieving. I guess they needed to sort out those things still living inside of them.
I'm not picking sides, but I was just offended by what Randell said about Jack. Yes, they both said horrible things. But it feels like Kevin was hurt and wanted to hurt Randell, therefore told bullshit. But Randell for some reason BELIEVED in his words. So I need to see an apology from him before I can forgive.
@@elenaovcharuk8529 I agree. What Randall said got to me more and despite the complexity of his character, he's a character I really don't like anymore.
I completely agree. I don't like people saying that Randall was harsher etc because from his point of view he was trying to help him mom who Kevin had previously abandoned and yeah Kevin is building a relationship now but to Randall its like hes waltzing in and trying to control everything when he wasn't the one who held the burden of looking after her after the dad died so y'all are being too harsh on Randall. And what Kevin said to Randall was just as bad - it's hard being adopted and then for your brother to say the worst thing that happened was the day you were adopted - that's horrible like now he feels like no one wanted him. So YES they both were horrible and said horrible stuff, stop trying to point everything on Randall just cause Kevin is trying now, you don't know how hard it must have been for Randall right after the dad's death with his mom and Kate and Kevin just ran away. They BOTH need to apologize, i love them both so this was and still is a very hard scene to watch. That's why I agree with this comment because when it comes to family arguments there is such a complicated history, so outside people don't have the right to act like they know everything - both were wrong for what they said no matter if Kevin was retaliating he still said something really harsh (lets not forget the episodes from their childhood with how mean Kevin was to Randall). Can't wait to see them start to mend their relationship!
Oh my god crazy how you wrote exactly what I was thinking. It is so true. We watched this characters grow up, how they developed and why, their ups and downs. Their perspective and the others. You can understand both of them cause there isn’t sides. This show shows the worst and best moments of life, and people’s worst and best moments. There are people saying they hate one of the two because of this scene, but we have all had horrible moments like this too. The show is just so good, portrays life better than any show.
This is really hard to watch, I love them both!! I hope kelvin and Randall will both be ok!! It’s hard that we have to wait a whole year till season 5!
literally why does randall think kevin only cares about himself??? kevin has had so much character development. the way he ran to randall’s office bc he knew something was wrong and held him while he was having a panic attack. he’s even helped nicky so much yet randall is so stuck on believing that kevin is selfish???
A.J Deets kevin is trying so hard to better himself and change the family’s narrative of him but it seems like no matter how hard he tries it just doesn’t matter bc randall keeps bringing up what happened in the past
Because admitting to himself that Kevin is just as capable of taking care of the family makes Randall feel less needed. He isn't the indespensable hero anymore if he can be replaced. Its heartbreaking but also rooted in so much reality. Randall has been the responsible one for so long, he doesnt know how else to be. Kevin on the other hand is trying to shake off the image of the screw up and Randall isn't letting him, which is supremely unfair to Kevin because he's doing everything he can to be a good son.
Honestly, I think Kevin showed a lot of restraint here as to what he could have said. Because he could have pulled examples of how he cared for Nicky, how he cared for Randall when he was having a nervous breakdown and leave his own big performance in season 1 among many others. Randall can't escape his past demons while Kevin seems to be getting over his.
@@majed8192 I don't deny that! But I think he could have said a lot worse things given how awful Randall was being and how openly egocentric and self centered he has become.
That moment... Kevin was there for Randell when he was so vulnerable. But when Kevin, please pay attention here, was going to kill himself, Randell was kinda forced to come and never shown any empathy...
Marc Turner I’ve told my siblings that I wish they never been born plenty of times but if I brought up our dead relative simply just to hurt them then we are fighting
Based on similar things he has said about Kevin, Randall actually believed what he said. Kevin’s responses were out of retaliation and I don’t think he meant those words, but there was no going back at that point. We also have to keep in mind this was after Kevin was told he was about to be a father with a girl he barely even knows.
Didi Matueno You can see it on his face that Kevin regretted saying it. He just wanted to hurt Randall where he is most vulnerable. I’m not saying it was right, but it wasn’t genuine unlike Randall’s low blows.
I agree Kevin seemed not confortable when he was talking but because he knows that each world is true , and that is the point of their story. They don t really love each other, for Kevin started as he said when his father brought randall at home (have a throwback in their childhood and u will see Kevin upset by randal presence and Randal struggling to be closer to Kevin) he has been always jaleous to share their parent love with Randall And for Randal started i think when their father passed , he stopped trying.
@@didimatueno8772 The nasty part by Randall says that what Kevin is doing is a performance, just as stale as all his performances. Such a disheartening feeling to know that your sibling doesn't even think highly of your career and achievements
I watched the whole season at once so I noticed a lot of little things. You are very right. In every flashback Randall was actually annoying me because as a kid he always spoke down to Kevin smh
What Kevin said was awful but Randall, man... Randall has some serious problems. The way he is thinking about himself, being superior, better, etc, it's terrible. It was hard for Kevin not to say that, at least his face showed us that he regreted. It was wrong from both sides but sorry Randall, team Kevin on this one!!! In the end I was happy to see Kevin receiving the thing he wanted the most x 2 + a wife!
I don't know... Can you really blame Randall for saying that? Kevin blamed him for their fathers death and then Randall went on and said he's better then him... Both said things that was mad hurtful but I personally think Kevin was harsher
@@LillmillY1, I personally think that Kev didn't mean it comparing to Randall who really believed what he said, that's it. Let's not forget that Kevin just got the news of his child which is something.
They both were both awful to each other. To be honest if I were to point the one who said more hurtful things I'd say it was Kevin. Randall tried to belittle Kevin and play on his insecurities. But accusing Randall of their father's death? Telling him the worst day was him joining the family. THAT was IMO what made the conversation a breaking point
The nasty part for me was when Randall says that what Kevin is doing is a performance, just as stale as all his performances. Such a disheartening feeling to know that your sibling doesn't think highly of your career and achievements
That and the fact that he literally cried to one of his movies...? You can't say all his performances were stale when you were balling at the end of one of them
To be fair though Kevin’s not really good actor and 90% of his career achievements have been based on his good looks and charm, the main issue with him when it comes to his career is that he cares way to much about what others think and that’s what prevents him from actually being good, he’s also very insecure which again a lot has to with his childhood, personally I don’t blame Randall for resenting him after Jack’s death since he did bail out the last minute by getting married and moving away but him basically downgrading Kevin and who he is....I think Kevin should have just walked away after that, the guy was clearly venting his emotions and Kevin retorting back only made it worse. With that being said the writers did an amazing job with Kevin’s growth this season, he went from being me least favourite character on this show to my second favourite after Beth, so at least despite the drama the writers did one thing right with Kevin’s life.
jack would be ashamed of his sons right now. randall is completely out of line for saying kevin only cares for himself when this whole season he has devoted himself to nicky and helped tess. kevin was out of line for saying that last line as well. As much i wanted to punch randall, i am kinda happy for what he said coz it only adds fuel to the growth for kevin and decline for randall. kevin has already been devoted to nicky, now he will devote himseld to madison. Its very disheartening that randall doesn't even have any respect for kevins career achievements. Randall says that what Kevin is doing is a stale performance, like all his performances. That's nasty
@Cris U what ironic is when randall leaves saying kevin is all about stale performance, kevin gets a lovely message from nicky. It proves how wrong randall is. If only nicky was there, he would have shut down randall so hard
Kevin has always been there for Randall the first panic attack he had who came all the way to his school to help him smh Randall is selfish and pompous! Kevin loves Randall. I don't think he envies Randall he's been wanting a wife and family just been to find. Randall being messy.
Yep but 3 years trying to be a better person in 38 years are not enought to be trusted ..that is the issue !! Nobody asked him to be devoted to Nikky he took a great risk by resurrecting something his father had hidden his entire life Remaind u when he relapsed with alcool he accused Randal for that also, ans it s his duty to take care of madison.
@Cris U i dont disagree about Kevin evolution .I agree with that and I love him more than Randall he is funny. But he started this positive change when he was looking for himself so it was more for him. And it doesnt change the fact that he came 36 years later and also the fact he deeply thought each world he said to Randall ( their issue started from this point)that was the reason he seemed not confortable to say that because it was true. Randall used to say that he wanted to know his origine since he was little , so no it wasnt a surprise even if he didnt tell her mother that he found her father she knew that he had been seeking him for longtime, something natural when u are adopted. Randall abandoned his dream to stay and take care of his mother, Randall gave up a confortable life and salary to help his father community He did all those things not for him but for his love ones,by acknowledgement
Nobody can hurt you as much as a sibling can, because they've known you all your life and know what will trigger the most. This was so well written, and the acting was intense. Well done! Randall has not seen enough of Kevin in the last year to see how much he has grown, and Kevin blames Randall for changing their mum's mind just after she told him how much she appreciates him letting her enjoy life and how that was his special thing... I figured there would be a very heated argument or even a fight, but man, this was brutal. Now we understand why the glimpses of the future as so depressing.
When Randall said “He died ashamed of you” all I could think of was the note that Jack left on Kevin’s door before the fire started. I could see “the worst day of my life was the day they brought you home” from “you think the worst day of my life is the day Dad died...” Ouch! That one felt uncalled for but was filled with so much pain.
Randell is my favorite character but lately he's been unlikable. Emotionally manipulating his mother into getting what he wants is a new low. I'm going to have to take Kevins side on this one. All he was trying to do is call out Randell on it. Randell is the one that instigated the fight.
@@darky1376 Ikr! I hope Randell will regret the extent of his actions. Doing that to his mother is just horrible! I could see why Kevin was so mad. Sure what Kevin said to Randell hurt a lot but that's only because all in that moment he had a lot on his plate. He finds out he's going to be a father for the first time mixed with the fact that he's hurt over what Randell did to Rebecca.
Kevin has devoted this whole season in helping other people with Nicky's sobriety, Tess coming out, Cassidy going back to her family, etc. Although that last line was awful I am still team Kevin on this one. Kevin and Randall have never gotten along but this was completely uncalled for. Randall has felt superior to Kevin since their dad died and now has guilted Rebecca into throwing herself into a clinical trial against her true wishes.
Kevin is actually a very interesting character when is about other people life. But when you get into his own life, it a mess, that why i like him. Even with the pain is feeling everyday it doesn't stop him from helping other
Daaaaaaaaaaaaang. I felt like i was watching 2 real people arguing in front of me. Almost wanted to run to my room and just listen from there with the door opened a crack
Don't forget that kevin hit Randal very hard by saying he would save their father if he was there instead of Randal . We've seen that it haunts Randal's mind in early episodes, that he could not doing anything to help his father and he regret so much. It explains the savage randal's response. Sorry but i understand Randal, even if he could be more wise and don't say that to his brother. This scene really hurts in feelings, because we love these two characters. A real great show Big love from France
I'm team Kevin on this one. Yes, Randall sacrificed a lot after Jack died and Rebecca is grateful. She said as much during Kevin's therapy session. But Randall has no right to think his sacrifice gives him the right to guilt Rebecca into doing something she does not want to do. Randall is the true definition of a control freak. Nobody ever said Jack was ashamed of Kevin. Randall had no right to say that.
Amen. Jack loved all his children - Kevin messed up a couple times, duh! He was a kid/teenager. Everyone has disagreements with their parents, that's a given but Randall is as you said, an utter control freak. He got the girl and had the kids... Kevin has been great to them, look how he'd been with Tess. What Kevin said was meant to hurt... because Randall said the WORST things ever to him! - saying Jack was ashamed, what utter trash. I have no sympathy for Randall - Kev got it right, Rebecca told them what she wanted and Randall has ignored that because HE doesn't want to lose her. Jack and William are gone which means Randall is focusing all that "abandonment" onto Rebecca and making it out like it's Kevin.
Raephaele Masirnille I think it gives Randal cause he has done everything right by his mom while she herself hasn’t by him and all he wants in return is for to go to a trail.
Kari Moon who’s to say though Kev would have agreed if Rebecca’s choice was to go to the trail from the start. Maybe Randal did have a point as Kev and Rebecca’s wants aligned. Also what they both said was disgusting on both fronts, how is Kev confirming that he never wanted Randal as a brother not equalling bad or maybe worse.
@@Mego677 But it's not only going to a trial it's being away from her home, her family. Alzeimers will soon rob her of her memory. And who knows how much time she has until she won't recognize her family. She wants to enjoy her family as long as she can. Did you see the Notebook? If not its a really good movie I highly recommend it. It's her life and it should be her decision. It's a trial, it might not help her. As of today there is no cure for AZ.
What in my opinion is brilliant about this scene is that when Randall said: "He died ashamed of you" Kevin didn't punch him (which I think Randall deserved here), but he said things that hurt Randall even more. They didn't need to punch each other, because those words were just hurtful enough. And the fact that they were saying all those things so peacefully makes this even more emotional.
It's extra brutal of Randall when you think about the fact that Randall had just gone for a walk, thought about it, and then came back and said this. At least Kev has the excuse that he was just out of another stressful situation and then was the responder not the instigator
What I do not like about Randall is that he always says that Kevin is selfish and only thinks of himself ... Randall who was the one who was in your last panic attack ??... both said horrible things to each other .... but sorry i'm team kevin ... but how dare he speak for jack...when he said he was not proud of him when he died... that broke me..!
The part that really guts me is how when you’re really upset with another person, most people would say “The worst day of my life was the day that you were born”. But Kevin said the worst day of his life was the day that they “brought Randall home”. Really shows how much he thinks of Randall as ‘other’ and not a real brother 🤷♀️.
This scene was awesome. One of the best in this show's history. Damn. This is what acting is all about. You felt the anger and the bitterness between Kevin and Randall in this scene. Anyone who has had issues with their family (like me), can relate to this scene. This was a well done scene. Kudos to Sterling K. Brown and Justin Hartley for a job well done.
That scene is so powerful. It was a long time coming explosion of what characterizes Randall and Kevin both in terms of individual character and their brotherhood. I finally witnessed the scene I've been waiting for for so long which is two man, with so much resentment and so much pain and anger, lashing out. Throughout the series, both tiptoed around what one thought of the other and here, finally, they said EVERYTHING they fundamentally thought about each other. there are no sides here. both opinions are valid. both wronged one another throughout the life. It was a needed moment for both of them to potentially improve their relationship. and I'm so excited to see something better from them in the future.
Team Kevin here. Rebecca was sane when she made the decision to forego the clinical trial. Randall low ball Rebecca and that is not cool. I loved that Randall was the glue of the family but that is also his downfall. It just shows now that he is controlling and want everything his way. I think what the therapist said was correct. He resented Rebecca and can't admit it because that it is a rabbit hole he knows he can't come out alive.
Both men just spoke out of pure emotion and anger. People say things they don't mean all the time out of anger. Who knows if they really meant what they said, but at the end of the day, you know they both walked away regretting it.
Jack created this mess btw brothers. Unknowingly he had them competing for attention. Randall got the good attention Straight A student, Good football player, Helped around the house. and Kevin got bad attention. Bad grades; selfishness, negative attitude towards Randall NEVER Kate. Only Randall. So they reinforced love to Randall.
Kimberly Granger While both of them are wrong, Randall is somewhat right. Randall was helping Rebecca while in college. Meanwhile, Kevin moved to New York, got married and seemingly only called to ask for money. Kevin has changed but his track record up until now has been pretty self centered with kindness sprinkled in.
So raw, so real. Its not about who is right or wrong here. This show is incredible. From writting, music, acting, damn even make up. Cant wait for 5th season. Hope they talk more about Jacks mom for instance
Kevin was a little "neglected" when he was young (like a typical middle child) between Kate, the daddy girl, and Randall the smart adoptive one, he was struggling to find his space, so he forced himself into a narcisistic path of "being an outsider" and tried to built his own personal space. Randall, on his side, was a lot to deal with, compulsive, control freak, analytic and way too serius, he wanted Kevin to like him but failed to give him the space he need. They love each other (and you can see it during the serie) but they are too fragile and vulnerable when they are togheter because they both see in the other someone to blame. Kevin blame Randall of not saving their dad because he could not bear the idea of Jack dying ashamed of him. Randall blame Keving of having abandoned the family, and he took that role because he felt guilty about not stopping Jack. Randall felt like HE was the right descendent of Jack, and Kevin felt like HE had to run away from him.
Typically family scapegoat vs favoured golden child , these roles turn up in Aca adult children of dysfunctional families , 12 step programs, it’s like this a tv show but, in group therapy we learn to recognise patterns and respect
Maaaaaan, i just love this show. I am a fan of Justin Hartley (because let’s all agree, the man is hot af), but back then, he had such a hard time shaking off the trope of the “shirtless hot guy”on basically all of his TV performances. I was so afraid that he was stuck with another similar role when “This Is Us” just started. But man, oh man, i have never been happier to be proven wrong. This series had given him a platform to really break out of that trope and show off his acting prowess. The character development that they have for Kevin certainly helps. Kudos to him and the writers. This is such an amazing piece of television art.
It is crazy to me that people seem to completely forget that for the vast majority of their lives Kevin has been a complete monster to Randall and has been unreliable to most of the other people in his life. Don't get me wrong, I love to see Kevin growing and I think it was inevitable and important to show the really bad parts of Randall but a year of actually being a reliable-ish person, showing care/concern for others and not being the absolute worse to Randall does not make Kevin some sort of saint or erase the many many years that he was the complete opposite. For their entire lives Kevin has taken every opportunity to make Randall feel unwanted and like he didn't belong. It has only been within the last couple of years that he has begun to treat Randall with any kind if care or concern. Kevin deciding that he just wants a wife and a kid asap, is not growth, it is just another example of Kevin being reckless and wanting what he wants when he wants it, per usual. They both are completely in the wrong but Kevin clearly actually believes what he says about Randal, he has spent their entire lives proving that he he wished Randall wasn't a part of the family and that Jack/Rebecca's bringing him home was the worst thing that happened to him.
Amen ...i was looking for this comment I dont understand how people can forget the beginning of the story 3 years Trying to be better in 38 are not enough to be trusted , when u know the context.
@@didimatueno8772 bcuz the Vast majority don't see Randall as a real Pearson/brother. That is why people feel like Kevin changed attitude in 6 months outweighs years of bad behavior. Kate is just useless. But watch she take Kevin side. Lol
I strongly disagree with the "both wrong" argument. Kevin wanted to confront Randall from the moment Rebbeca said she was going to do the trail. I am glad Kevin said what he said because he was finally honest. I am glad Randall finally knows Kevin never liked him. I grew up with a brother like Kevin. I am happy Randall can go on with his life knowing the truth. Kevin is a very toxic person and he always has been. Those who gloss over Kevin's toxic nature to compare him with Randall have missed a lot. How could Kevin have saved Jack while he was on crutches?
this is not about what kevin did to randall. this is about rebecca and respecting her wish. kevin is being the god son and respected rebeccas decision. where as randall emotionally manipulated rebecca. randall till this still believes that kevin can never grow or care for anybody even though evidence proves him wrong. how dare bring up their dead father and say he would be ashamed of kevin? based on your logic randall is the same. he wants something what he wants without thinking first with william, then teja then being in govt job.
right? I have 6 other siblings and we've scrapped before and argued, but it never went to a level like that... also we were kids/teenagers. I'm blessed for us to be in our 20s & 30s and share nothing but love.
Yeah. I told my sister I hated her when I was in elementary and middle school😂 But, now that we’re older we don’t fight like that anymore. Not to say we never fight, but she’s my best friend. And we we would never try to hurt each other like this.
@@Lorgayle1 100% he regretted it, he was just hurt from what Randall said, so he fired back. We haven't seen them talk in the future scene in the new cabin, i wonder if they made up before that get together.
@@mountiescorner Just because they are in the same place does not mean they made up. They are in the same place because of Rebecca. When Kevin enter the room with Randall I did not see a friendly greeting. But I do hope they make up. It's sad when siblings are not friends.
@@raephaelemasirnille5794 well it looks like many many years in the future. Knowing This is Us, they've probably had worse fights than this and made up by then.
Jack's spirit is in tears right now this was not what he wanted for his two sons he'd be ashamed of both of em and to me this highlights how they never really were brothers to each other they were just going through the motions there are just some lines you dont cross
I can't get over how self-absorbed and pretentious Randall can be. Randall did not behave like a man at all. Everything always revolved around him, all the time. It is time for it to stop! In the end, his therapist is the best person to shake him up and tell him things in the face. But Randall's attitude is a reflection of many people in this world.
I don’t see Randal as self absorbed but more the opposite to a default... but his greatest strength is also his weakness as he should at times care enough about himself and his own feelings rather than what he think is right and honourable. Him seeking therapy is even a direct result of his wife’s needs not his own. The fact is that these brother love each other and deep down are probably jealous of one another because they are a direct reflection of the very thing that is flawed with their own personality
Meghan Abbott But he does it without anyone’s consent, that’s the problem. He has a good heart, but he never actually thinks about how someone else would feel. Go back and watch his arguments with Beth in Season 3.
A.J Deets those decisions all worked out though that’s probably why he keeps doing them. Which isn’t a good thing but it all a trickle effect from meeting William. Taking William home, project home, and the Major were only three things he did without consent. Beth was on board with the adopting and he did get the consent from his siblings on his mom and his mom still made her choice even if swayed. So three things out of his whole life to me don’t make him self absorbed.
That last line was so real and I feel Kevin's pain. That was the worst day. This whole 4 seasons are proof of that. Kevin was always odd one out in his own home with his own parents. The unnecessary over compensation Randel did unable to deal with feeing less than caused his own anxiety. Kevin's acting out was from being emotionally and sometimes physically neglected. Kate had dad and Randal had mom. Kevin had Kevin... So Kevin then chose Sofie and Sofie wasn't mom or dad. Even after Jack's death Even had no one but now he also had guilt. Kevin chose drugs and alcohol and then Kevin chooses uncle Nikki. You know, I'm starting to think Rebecca gave birth to two living kids because God knew she could only handle 2. Every season Rebecca only has a handle on a somewhat functioning relationship with 2 of her 3 kids. Either Kate and Randal or Randal and Kevin or Kate and Kevin. Only 2 at a time. 2 is what she was given. 2 is what was meant to be. It harsh but seems true to me. Broken people break people. Broken people also bleed on people who didn't cut them. I'm sick and tired of how they worship the dead guy. These kids are 40 bloody years old and thy go about like the dad died yesterday. I'm tired!
Lolll.. I am tired too But Randall is adopted so I can understand his worship and devotion. He always feels like he has to thank them. The words kevin and rand exchanged to each other was disgusting and even if Kevin seemed painfull about what he said, it s something he has always thaught despite his effort from the two past years. And two years of trying to be better in 38 years are not enough for being trusted
Interesting analysis! I think Kevin, despite Randall, is going through a healing process. He reached deep insight on some issues between them. After that final line, Kevin closes his eyes, regretting for he'd just said. As it used to be he's still reacting as a child after being rejected. On the other hand, Randall is beggining therapy and he's exhibiting some resistance.. let's see what next season brings!
It wouldn't make sense, according to that line he only had one, brother the one who died, so what is the "you" refer to, then? Since in his mind Randell wouldn't be a brother who died too
This is acting at it's finest! This was Justin & Sterling throwing themselves completely into their characters, and becoming them! This scene, and the Rebecca & Jack fight scene in the season one finally, have always stood out among the many other great moments of This Is Us.
We’ve all been there haven’t we? Saying something terrible that you never think and that you know will hurt someone, because you just wanna hurt someone, and the moment it came out of your mouth you regret it.
I thought I was gonna be team randall earlier when I saw they wasn't speaking, but Kevin is mostly right and really has grown up this last season. He did say some bad things , but he also tried to help everyone in a realistic way and wanted to be apart of his moms life for the first time ever
Since his role in Revenge I thought Justin was a mediocre actor. But this show was probably the best thing that happened to his career. He has evolved so much and his performance and is only getting better
My heart was crushed when this happened. I had to watch it a few times over just to digest it all. There is pain on both sides here. Kevin has always regretted not being there the night his father died, and Randall felt he didn’t do enough to save Jack’s life - he also lost William, so he has anger over that too. I think his ‘guilt’ ploy to get Rebecca onto the trial is payback for keeping his biological father away from him, Randall never really got over that, even though Rebecca was doing what she felt was best for her son - and William agreed to stay away, because he realised he couldn’t give Randall the life that Jack and Rebecca could. Messy stuff. Can’t wait to see what happens next...
Kevin spent his whole life disrespecting his parents and treating his black brother like garbage. I'm Team Randall. He's wrong about Rebecca but right about Kevin who only got his act together last year.
In my opinion, the root of Kevin's problems with Randall and his parents, has everything to do with the feeling of being displaced by Randall and Kate, and their serious issues during childhood. Randall is a resilient, and was able to overcome BIG issues. I think Kevin didn't receive the same support from his parents and is still struggling against some childhood monsters.. That's why I think Randall final comment was too much
Randall was mean because he knew how much insecurities Kevin has about making Jack proud and his value in the family. He was mean because he knew how much it would hurt to hear that and said it. Not because he thinks so. He knew Jack was proud of Kevin in his own way but saying that would hurt Kevin so he just went for it. Hero complex. And let’s not forget he disrespected Kate too. The feud is between Kevin and Randall, but Randall knew damn well that both Kate and Kevin wanted Rebecca to choose by her own and not make her do anything she didn’t want to do. Kate just wasn’t so vocal about it. I think Kevin it’s just tired of being left out of important decisions concerning Rebecca and Randall thinking he’s above him and he’s the only one allowed to do it since “he took care of the family”. Like the boss of the family. Whatever Randall says it has to be done, they have to obey and that’s annoying. Randall has been annoying me so much these last episodes. They’re supposed to act like a team, the three of them, respect each other’s opinions, talk to Rebecca and respect whatever the bloody hell she wants to do with the time she has left. She’s a married grown woman and Randall is no one to decide over her choices. If someone has to choose in behalf of Rebecca, that would be Miguel. Randall was in the wrong here, he behaved like a bratty mean arsehole and everything Kevin said was well deserved. I bet Kate would have been as pissed as Kevin If she was there.
Am I the only one not shocking by this scene, It was intense but without surprise. What Kevin said to Rand with words it s exactly what he has felt his entire life. the change he has been trying to operate for these 2 recent years while he was looking for himself was more for him than for the others including what he did for Randall during his anxiety crisis. Nobody asked him to look for nikky. He took a great risk by resurrecting something his father had hidden his whole life. His family including Randall were there for him during his two addiction crisis. Randal abandoned his dream for taking care of their mother and kate.Randal gave up a comfortable life with a high salary to help his father community. Yep I dont agree with him regarding his mother but he wants her to stay alive as long as it is possible. It is selfish but who can convict him? and he doesnt undestand how Kevin doesnt need the same! When his father told him that he wanted to stop his treatment he accepted easily he could have contested also with the same argument! but he loves his mother more than everything+ the fact he regret not stopping his father to enter again in home in fire. I dont understand why people are looking for a kind of balance between Kevin and Randall behaviour???!!! But it s not about who was bad and now who is good. There are not worst and better person betweem them. There are two peopple struggling with their own nightmare: Kevin superficial and hating himself because he hates his brother Randal adopted and obssessed by his need to be perfect for his parent and in the eyes of the world
I know people won't agree. But for me Rebecca let that happen. She LET randall took the role of the new hubsband for her. She let her son carry the weight as a child. SHE SHOULD HAVE NEVER ACCEPTED THAT. Now that she has "carpe diem" mentality, she goes for kevin. I'm not mad at none of the boys. Kevin is trying to be a better person and want to be less selfish and superficial. Randall is an ADOPTED (people seems to forget this part) who is trying to compensate by OVERDOING and is affraid of losing another parent. They are both trying to be good.

@@hasan_1888 actually yes she was brought up in High Society and we seen through the flashbacks, Rebecca breaks it off with her mom due to treatment of Randall. Never any mention of Dad mistreatment. I guess she choose not to be around them. Her dad was actually correct about Jack. He is a drunk. She should have listen. Rebecca friends told her to have a back up plan just in case her singing doesn't take off. Jack & Rebecca drove to Cali and she found out she was not going to make it as a singer. I guess Jack was her backup. Was it her pride to not reach back out to her friends? This is Rebecca's pattern.
I'm Team Kevin on this one. I feel like Kevin is always forgotten about. Kate had her issues with her Mom but she was always her Dad's Katie Girl. And Randall was the special one to both his parents, the one who was going to be a Great Man. Randall has always looked down on his brother and this was years of pent up emotion coming out.
Randall can't stop reminding everyone that he "stayed" when the other two left. It's like he wants to own his mother. I'm surprised they didn't have an incestuous relationship. And why would their father die ashamed of Kevin? He wasn't in trouble with the police, wasn't a problem child, didn't steal from them to buy drugs.
After reading majority of the comments here this the conclusion I have come up: Team Kevin: Those who support Kevin agrees that he said horrible things and that Randall shouldn't have said " he died ashamed of you". Team Randall: Those who support Randall believes Randall never said anything wrong and its all Kevin fault because he has been a shittier brother.
Randall said terrible things too. Telling Kevin that their father died ashamed of him was cruel. It seemed like they both regretted what they said immediately after though if you look at their faces
No one was right in the situation. It was about Rebecca and I feel like they made it about them. I understand where Randal is coming from and I understand where Kevin is coming from. But I don’t believe Kevin was totally thinking about himself. It was Rebecca choice and Randal had no right to guilt her in to that. Yea he took care of her and yea kevin was not there but it has nothing to do with that. It was Rebecca choice. Yea Kevin might get something out of her not going. They all will but he let her choose. Even tho I understand where both of them are coming from, I have to take Kevin’s side. Randal isn’t gonna always be what his mother needs or know what she needs. And he needs to learn that. He should have respected her wishes. He was wrong for what he did.
Man randal was wrong, i actually love randal, but you can't lie to your self, randal did wrong, it not about him all the time. He can't save the world, he need to stop acting like it all depending on him, is not even the guy who is paying fr all that
Randall pushed all of his buttons, tell him that his dad died ashamed of him, Kevin reacts, and -as usual-, Randall plays victim. Randall's a jack**s!! Team Kevin all the way! From season 1, gotta say!!!
When siblings argue, they want to hurt the other person the most with words. They both don't mean what they said, but sometimes in the heat of the moment, regrets are made because of the words that have been spewed.
Yahyeet Randall has said similar things about Kevin before and he said it so confidently and not out of anger like Kevin. Randall did mean those harsh words.
That last line Kevin said didn’t need to be said Kevin brought up his dad when he shamed Randall for his dad dying Randall was just responding and then Kevin just said that which made things worse no one is right and no one is fully wrong
UK Fan on catch up. Saw this last night and I was shaken, literally screaming 'HOW F---ing DARE YOU Randall!' I've always liked Randall, but the last few episodes highlighted how much of a narcissistic, manipulative control freak he really is! What he said was so uncalled for, I did wonder what Kevin would say back, so admit I did a little cheer with his zinger of a comeback... Hope they do a make up, but I know from own experience that sometimes things said in anger cant be erased.... Only just realised this was a one shot take! Why is this show not winning more awards?!
They both were VERY wrong here and Randall lied about what made Rebecca changed her mind when he knew... I am very disappointed in Randall behavior. I am so glad that brothers didn't fight.. I am wondering if Kevin didn't hit Randall bcuz he knows Rabdall knows how to fight and would have hurt him or bcuz they both matured enough to know fighting never solves anything.
As for not fighting as grown men, I agree with you. But I honestly think that a major problem with their adult relationship is that they never "fought" as kids. The closest they've seemed to come was when they both played high school football and even then they couldn't (because they were prevented by Jack?) from addressing their issues. Too much unresolved and sublimated issues on BOTH sides.
I just remembered their fight in New York in Season 1 and in a way I think that proves my point. They were probably never closer nor had a better relationship than immediately after that fight.
@Cris U Don't forget Kevin treated Randall like an outcast since S1 episode 1. Remember Kevin always embarrassed him in front all the kids. So when he said about the worst day was that they brought him home. I really feel that is how Kevin really felt especially in the S1 Ep2
@Cris U Both are absolutely unacceptable.. 100%. They both hit below the belt. What I am saying is. I feel like Kevin told the truth when he said that to Randall. Based on the way Kevin treated and embarrassed Randall since the beginning of Series. He never wanted to be seen with Randall and never called him His brother. I believe that was Both their truth.
Can't understand how people under the comments are mad at Randall for saying that, as if Kevin didn't just tell Randall it was his fault their father died. I would be way more hurt by my sibling accusing me of being responsible for a parent's death than hearing someone died ashamed. At the end of the day, we know Jack loved all his kids and they know that too. On the other hand, Kevin has rarely ever been a good brother to Randall. I don't care how selfish Randall is acting right now, Randall acting irrational to save their mother is something I can understand even if I don't agree with the way he went about it. There's more weight to what Kevin is saying because of how he treated Randall all his life. For Kevin to say the worst moment of his life was them bringing Randall home...to say that to someone who has been adopted and could probably have some sense of feeling like they don't truly belong is horrible. They're both in the wrong, but how many times does Kevin get to be trash to Randall and treat him the way he has all his life?
because this is not about kevin did to randall. this is about what their mom wants. randall cant see anyone disagreeing with what he wants, so brings back old memories to hurt kevin even though he is trying to grow. its now randall who is NOT being a good brother to kevin. randall doesn't even think highly of kevins career and achievements.
Because we can actually follow a train of conversation and we know it was Randall who escalated things . If you are still blindly defending Randall after this episode there is no hope for you. Most of your st Randall and Evil Kevin screed is biased nonsense.
@@randomfail1685 Who is following blindly? Read before you speak. I said Randall has his faults in this situation. Try learning to read in addition to following a conversation. After everything Kevin has done to Randall, even if Randall is wrong in the situation, to accuse his brother as one of the reasons their father is dead is trash. Kevin has rarely ever been a good brother and that's that.
@@hasan_1888Randall calling Kevin selfish does not warrant Kevin saying Randall was responsible for Jack's death for not chasing after him. Kevin was the one who was chasing Randall into this conversation, Randall had left so they wouldn't get into and came back. Randall shouldn't have said what he said, but how else would you react to your sibling saying it's your fault your father is dead?
@@dreamsinorbit Sure you aren't, You downplayed all of Randall's douchbaggery and exaggerated to make kevin the bad guy in a situation where Saint Randall was CLEARLY the one in the most wrong to anybody who isn't a biased fanboy. Randall is a trash brother too who's looked down on kevin his entire life.
I genuinely felt so bad for Kevin in this scene.... Randall really went and attacked his character, his career, his relationship with his parents and hurt his pride ;A; Randall does not know at all or understand how far Kevin has gone to help OTHERS rather than himself over the course of the series. Kevin really had the most growth in This is Us in my opinion. However Kevin... that last line was such a low blow. That's Randall's biggest insecurity (not feeling like he "belongs" in their family). But after everything Randall said... I kinda understood WHY Kevin said that? Like he tried to come up with the sentence that could hurt Randall the most as retaliation. I felt Kevin regretted everything at the end though... by the look on his face. But It was unclear if Randall regretted it or even felt sorry . I really hope after this that they can work out their issues once and for all.
These two should just start writing their award speeches now.
I agree!! I certainly hope they are both recognized this year! That scene was just gut wrenching.....😓

Well she is the only sane strong character in this entire family of train wrecks.
Randall is just a nasty character too many times, least favourite now
I'm surprised they didn't start punching each other. They both said terrible things.
The punches will hurt less than they said
I think they hurt each other so much with those words that punches will never be enough. They know something broke forever
I think they need to if they want to heal their wounds.
This is really hard to watch, I love them both!! I hope kelvin and Randall will both be ok!! It’s hard that we have to wait a whole year till season 5!
I watched this scene between my fingers
Man! They both went for the jugular! Gosh! No one is able to tell u hurtful things like a family member. They know all ur weaknesses
The whole fight was horrible! They were both wrong.
literally why does randall think kevin only cares about himself??? kevin has had so much character development. the way he ran to randall’s office bc he knew something was wrong and held him while he was having a panic attack. he’s even helped nicky so much yet randall is so stuck on believing that kevin is selfish???
Maybe Randall is referring to the majority of Kev’s life and not the couple of years of his growth.
♡ Because he’s stuck in the past and doesn’t believe people can change.
Kevin on the other hand is trying to shake off the image of the screw up and Randall isn't letting him, which is supremely unfair to Kevin because he's doing everything he can to be a good son.
its funny and almost ironic because Randall is far more egocentric in my opinion, especially in the last few episodes.
That's the best thing about Kevin when he is doing good deed he isn't say a word but Randal is just praising himself.
Instead Kevin disowned his own brother, no matter how much hurt Randell caused with his words, it does not justify the awful last line that Kevin said
@@majed8192 I don't deny that!

@Cris U So blaming Randall for Jack's death was okay?
Based on similar things he has said about Kevin, Randall actually believed what he said. Kevin’s responses were out of retaliation and I don’t think he meant those words, but there was no going back at that point. We also have to keep in mind this was after Kevin was told he was about to be a father with a girl he barely even knows.
No..what Kevin sais it is something he has always thought....
They don t really love each other, for Kevin started as he said when his father brought randall at home (have a throwback in their childhood and u will see Kevin upset by randal presence and Randal struggling to be closer to Kevin) he has been always jaleous to share their parent love with Randall
And for Randal started i think when their father passed , he stopped trying.

@Michael Oates "There are no sides, that's the point", yet you sound like you took one. Just saying!
Sometimes I have the same fights with my sisters, we both believe we are right and we never back out or admit that the other side has a point.
Can we appreciate how much better Justin Hartley has gotten since season 1 ? His performance in this season was his best one yet.
The nasty part for me was when Randall says that what Kevin is doing is a performance, just as stale as all his performances. Such a disheartening feeling to know that your sibling doesn't think highly of your career and achievements

@@LoxNT Unless Randall lied about crying, or he cried not at Kevin's performance in particular but someone else's in the movie.
@Cris U i think nicky or kate is the only one who can fix this fight.
Randall abandoned his dream to stay and take care of his mother, Randall gave up a confortable life and salary to help his father community
He did all those things not for him but for his love ones,by acknowledgement

I'm team Kevin on this one. Yes, Randall sacrificed a lot after Jack died and Rebecca is grateful. She said as much during Kevin's therapy session. But Randall has no right to think his sacrifice gives him the right to guilt Rebecca into doing something she does not want to do. Randall is the true definition of a control freak. Nobody ever said Jack was ashamed of Kevin. Randall had no right to say that.

I have no sympathy for Randall - Kev got it right, Rebecca told them what she wanted and Randall has ignored that because HE doesn't want to lose her.
Jack and William are gone which means Randall is focusing all that "abandonment" onto Rebecca and making it out like it's Kevin.
Idk. Man that last comment Kevin said Was way over the line. Kevin is also who brought up Jack. They both have issues.
I love how Kevin got a text from Nicky right after the fight reassuring him that everything Randal said was bull!!!
The fact that they didnt fight showes how much Love they really have for each other but that last line YIKES!
oh they fought, alright, with harsh words...
but if you mean physically, yeah that's hard to restrain after that exchange
This conversation was one that only family members can have. They cut each other so deeply in places only places brothers can reach.
Damn ... those last words ... he put the final nail in the coffin. So much for being brothers.
Why I love about this show is how adults act like they are kids.
Wow, I feel the pain from both of them.
Hurt people do hurt other people.
Both men just spoke out of pure emotion and anger. People say things they don't mean all the time out of anger. Who knows if they really meant what they said, but at the end of the day, you know they both walked away regretting it.
Ehhhh. I think Randall believed what he was saying but I he may not have MEANT it. Kevin’s words were out of pure retaliation and anger
Kevin’s emphasis on “fire” was so powerful
OMG yes
Exactly!!!!!!
Randall walked right into it. Randall has never though if Kevin as his equal. He’s always though if him as a failure and a weakling.
Sanika Chitnis actually it’s the opposite. Kevin never treated Randall like a sibling he’s the one that started that inequality.
well tbh he kind of used to be a failure sooooo was he wrong huh?
passley88 true. I agree. But that was when they were kids, right? And now as growing up, isn’t Randall supposed to know better?
LiwiaGoszynska he isn’t wrong, no. But this was uncalled for, I reckon.
I'm still crying. When they were both saying those awful words, i was thinking of Jack .. and how he would feel about this :(
Jack created this mess btw brothers. Unknowingly he had them competing for attention. Randall got the good attention Straight A student, Good football player, Helped around the house. and Kevin got bad attention. Bad grades; selfishness, negative attitude towards Randall NEVER Kate. Only Randall. So they reinforced love to Randall.
@@c.h301 I don't think it was Jack, i think it was Rebecca !!
Kevin's last statement about the worst day of his life was way out of line.
Team Kevin all the way. That was just uncalled for
Kimberly Granger
While both of them are wrong, Randall is somewhat right.
Excellent analysis.
Kudos to both performances. Honestly, as a Smallville fan, I'm glad Justin Hartley's career is flourishing.
Amen ...i was looking for this comment
I dont understand how people can forget the beginning of the story
3 years Trying to be better in 38 are not enough to be trusted , when u know the context.
@@PEKUMBU That was probably the source of Kevin's addiction. Never wanting to say it out loud to Randall about the adoption. I could never forgive.
this is not about what kevin did to randall. this is about rebecca and respecting her wish. kevin is being the god son and respected rebeccas decision. where as randall emotionally manipulated rebecca.
randall till this still believes that kevin can never grow or care for anybody even though evidence proves him wrong. how dare bring up their dead father and say he would be ashamed of kevin?
based on your logic randall is the same. he wants something what he wants without thinking first with william, then teja then being in govt job.
I've had some doosies with my siblings but i would never ever say something as heart wretching as what either of them said.
right?
I have 6 other siblings and we've scrapped before and argued, but it never went to a level like that... also we were kids/teenagers.
I'm blessed for us to be in our 20s & 30s and share nothing but love.
@@mariamyupperz7614 The worst thing i even said to my brother in our worst fight was "i hate you right now"
I hope they get fine before the get older
Yeah. I told my sister I hated her when I was in elementary and middle school😂 But, now that we’re older we don’t fight like that anymore. Not to say we never fight, but she’s my best friend. And we we would never try to hurt each other like this.
I know, right? I’m all too aware that siblings argue…. But wow 😮 My jaw drops at this scene every time 🥺
Oh no, that's real brothers right there.😬 I mean let's be real we’ve all said terrible things to our siblings. Things that we can never take back.
I never said stuff like this to my sister

Hurting people hurt people. That was a horrible thing that Kevin said, but you can see that he deeply regretted it.

This was heart breaking. These are deadly words you can never come back from once you have said it
I can't get over how self-absorbed and pretentious Randall can be.
Randall did not behave like a man at all.
Everything always revolved around him, all the time.
It is time for it to stop!
In the end, his therapist is the best person to shake him up and tell him things in the face.
But Randall's attitude is a reflection of many people in this world.
I find him the least self absorbed as he does everything for other people.
I'm tired!
Lolll.. I am tired too
But Randall is adopted so I can understand his worship and devotion. He always feels like he has to thank them.
The words kevin and rand exchanged to each other was disgusting and even if Kevin seemed painfull about what he said, it s something he has always thaught despite his effort from the two past years. And two years of trying to be better in 38 years are not enough for being trusted
Powerful words of truth!
Wise words! Beautiful!
you are absoluty right
Interesting analysis!
I think Kevin, despite Randall, is going through a healing process. He reached deep insight on some issues between them. After that final line, Kevin closes his eyes, regretting for he'd just said. As it used to be he's still reacting as a child after being rejected.
On the other hand, Randall is beggining therapy and he's exhibiting some resistance.. let's see what next season brings!
could have been worse. He could have said ' I only had one brother and he's dead, and now, so are you ' - yikes !
That would have been bad
It wouldn't make sense, according to that line he only had one, brother the one who died, so what is the "you" refer to, then? Since in his mind Randell wouldn't be a brother who died too
This was fight was terrible. So glad Beth got family out of house to witness this.
The writing on this show… top tier. Camera work on this scene… chefs kiss
When Randall said he died ashamed of you and felt pride for me I got pissed
Since his role in Revenge I thought Justin was a mediocre actor. But this show was probably the best thing that happened to his career. He has evolved so much and his performance and is only getting better
I didn't think he was bad as Oliver Queen AKA Green Arrow on Smallville Leticia.
Kevin can be mean and selfish but Randall can be straight up cruel.
And this is why mom choose KATE.. Cause she knew what these two chuckle heads would do.
Me and bro woulda been fighting after that. 😂
That's why I think Randall final comment was too much
He is trying and that should count for something.
Both were out of line with what they said, but I would never tell my adopted sibling that. The one who is at fault is Rebecca for playing favorites
The most hurtful argument between brothers on TV, I was literally screaming " STOP, WTF are you doing you idiots!!"
Anybody else yell at the screen like I did “Y’all don’t mean it” 😩😩😭😂
Am I the only one not shocking by this scene, It was intense but without surprise.
There are two peopple struggling with their own nightmare:
Kevin superficial and hating himself because he hates his brother
Randal adopted and obssessed by his need to be perfect for his parent and in the eyes of the world
this is the most sense out of all the comments. There's no need to take sides. Both said terrible things.
Kevin doesn’t hate Randall, he resents and envies him.
That silence at the end was deafening.
Wow! Best scene of the entire season!
I agree 100%. I am surprised NOBODY hasn't said anything to Rebecca. And Why don't Rebecca have any friends? Strange

Rebecca friends told her to have a back up plan just in case her singing doesn't take off. Jack & Rebecca drove to Cali and she found out she was not going to make it as a singer.
I guess Jack was her backup.
Was it her pride to not reach back out to her friends?
This is Rebecca's pattern.
so painful. i feel like they waited a lifetime to say that to each other. I always come back here. what a raw and real scene.
Kevin was a jerk to Randall when they were kids though. I think that’s part of where Randall was coming from here
@@joewhitehead3 Sure but I also think part of the reason he was a jerk was because he didn't know where he fitted in with his family.
Kevin’s the most self indulgent of all. Mememememememememe.

After reading majority of the comments here this the conclusion I have come up:
Team Kevin: Those who support Kevin agrees that he said horrible things and that Randall shouldn't have said " he died ashamed of you".
Team Randall: Those who support Randall believes Randall never said anything wrong and its all Kevin fault because he has been a shittier brother.
The last line Kevin said was crossing the line in my opinion. Team Randall
Randall said terrible things too. Telling Kevin that their father died ashamed of him was cruel. It seemed like they both regretted what they said immediately after though if you look at their faces
They both were honest to each others, that bullshit brotherhood they thought they had was fake.
They both went to the heart
There was a knot in my stomach when I watched this
When siblings argue, they want to hurt the other person the most with words. They both don't mean what they said, but sometimes in the heat of the moment, regrets are made because of the words that have been spewed.
Yeah I have been there. I think we all have with our siblings
They both went below the belt but Randall's superiority complex is Making him disregard his Mother ☹
Breaks my heart to the CORE!!
They could just punch each other!!this is so much worse!!
Kevin: you my brother
Randal: so was I
Kevin: what?
Randal: what!
They were probably both thinking that words would hurt each other much more than a punch. Gut-wrenching to see.
Sometimes we cannot take words back once they are said...
If my sibling accused me of being responsible for our parent's death talking about his career would be the minimal, cause Randall should've punched him the face. Randall shouldn't have said what he said, but how else would you react to your sibling saying it's your fault your father is dead?
@@dreamsinorbit
Sure you aren't, You downplayed all of Randall's douchbaggery and exaggerated to make kevin the bad guy in a situation where Saint Randall was CLEARLY the one in the most wrong to anybody who isn't a biased fanboy. Randall is a trash brother too who's looked down on kevin his entire life.
Kevin may have been right in this situation but if you think what Randall said was worse than what Kevin said at the end you're deluded
why is either one worse lol.... they both attacked each others' WORST insecurities. so really neither was more gentle
Aside from the fight but Madison and Kevin!??
I don't care what anyone says but YIKES!
These men are amazing actors
