Thank you for the love and critique! Looking back since this video was posted, I do agree with what a lot of you have said about the R8 and I will do more research to help people find a more suitable upgrade! That being said, I hope everyone is looking for an awesome camera for their holiday shopping!
Love my R. Got it in 2023. In 2020 (I think) I switched from the 5D mark IV to the Fujifilm XT-4. Worse decision I’ve made ever in my career. So when I was going back to canon I remembered that the EOS R had the same sensor as the 5D IV. Couldn’t be happier with my choice! I mostly take photos but due to my new job, I’ve started making media content (Videos, commercials, interviews). The EOS R is a great little camera to learn video on. I’ve just gotten better and better and the video quality slowly gets better! No problem with the crop, don’t mind it. I’m a little paranoid by the 1 cars slot. But I try to keep a lot of cards and try new brands to figure out which one holds up best over time! Work with what you have and do your best and you’ll come far! Great video! Love videos on the R!
Hi I think for photography, the R8 is a downgrade. The EOSR is a more capable stills camera, with the extra megapixels and detail, better grip and battery - not to mention the ease of side SD card gate vs in the battery compartment - what a pain! Yes the R8 has better AF, but to be honest, the EOSR has never missed it's target for me. For me it's an upgrade for RP users. Video is a different story (obviously).
I agree I have the R and the R8 is not it's replacement. If anything the R's replacement was the R5. RP and the R8 dismissions are very similar and the R7 is slightly larger than them both which is ironic for being a crop body camera.
Thanks for the review! I would like to buy the R for wedding videography. For the moment Inuse Canon 6d ii + 5d iv for video, and for photography I use R6. The quality from 5d iv vs 6d ii is huge, and the R has exactly the same sensor, so… should I buy an R because I have like 15 batteries and I m used with this, or should I buy the r8? The quality will be much better?
Why are people saying the EOS R8 is the upgraded version of the EOS R.. it is not.. it is more of an upgrade to the EOS RP. Why would you upgrade a camera and then downgrade the battery and megapixels and also make it cheaper than the EOS R that has been in the market since 2018? it doesn't make sense.
Thank you so much for your video .. but I have got a question, please .. I am using eos R , and I want to mirror it during vedio and photo mode with the cam screen working . I was able to make it mirror on the vedio mode , but during photo mode, the cam screen is off , and nor working. How can I make both my cam screen together with my LCD screen work together while mirroring .??? I need every thing shown on the cam screen to be shown both screens from setting to histogram.. every thing . Hope you can help please 🙏 🙏🙏 Best regards
Decide what you are likely to shoot. Then go look at the lenses for that type of shooting. Look at price and performance. Then buy the camera body , that can handle the lenses you like , with the best features for the money you have after you factored in the lenses. Camera bodies change every year. Lenses dont. I shoot Canon for that reason. But you may find something else suits you better. Dont buy a camera. Buy a system. Between Sony, Canon, Nikon and Fuji, you cant really go wrong. Your personal taste , budget and photography field will dictate what makes sense
The R8 sells for $1000 less than the R did when it was launched. The R6ii sells for about the same price - $2500 or so. In no way is the R8 a replacement for the R. The R8 is amazing performance for the money. But it is a budget camera. That said: If I have to choose between a R or an R8 today, there is no choice. R8 has better AF, better high noise performance, better video, more dynamic range…. There is almost no real world difference between 24MP and 30 MP… But for the money you paid for the R originally, you can get the R6ii which is altogether in another league. You get a more pro body, IBIS, ….

As a addition: The EOR R has a full featured mechanical Shutter not a EFCS as the R8.

Exactly! Good comment! 👍
The Eos R is essentially a beter version of the 5Dmkiv. Thats not entry level, thats semi-pro.
Still using the EOS R I think it’s brilliant for photo and content creation awesome vid bro 👊🏼
I loved it for photo and content creation too! Just had challenges when it came with filmmaking 😅
I love my R
Awesome video man. I love my EOS R i also use it with the 35 1.4. That lens is a beauty. :)
I love the top screen like the R5 it looks so good.
Eos R Footage at the Beginning looks great mate! Did you shoot that in hd or 4k?
HD! It only shoots 4k in 30fps
6:29 in, the RF 50mm 1.8 is the THRIFTY 50, the EF 50mm 1.8 is the Nifty 50.
Had mines for two years people are sleeping on the R
