  • This video shows how to add an auxiliary input to a radio / head unit from a 1995 Jeep Cherokee. The head unit model is RX-173 (56007214). This modification would not have been possible without the research and work done by Jeremy at Jeremy's Radio Emporium:
    radio-emporium....
    Also detailed by Jeremy here:
    comancheclub.c...
Thanks to this modification, plus a Bluetooth adapter, I can now play anything that's on my phone through my Jeep radio, as well as listen to FM and cassettes. The total cost was less than £20, including the Bluetooth adapter.

Awesome video!!! I had been emailed Jeremy's Emporium about this exact thing. I just did a Bluetooth module and this was exactly what I needed. Thanks!!!

Just in case James Benedict does not respond on the paragraph I wrote on "1988-1996 Jeep Cherokee Radio Repair," I would like your input on doing repairs like inoperative cassette modules, left or right channel loss and low volume. You can comment below after you read what I wrote.

You must live in Canada with a 200kilo speedometer and those old townhouses and such. At least you don`t have a steering wheel on the passenger side.

If you want something a little cleaner, I have a 12v bluetooth module thats connected rather than an aux input. I didnt know about disabling AM though, ive been using dead cassettes instead

Hi Luca, sorry, but I’ve never fixed a cassette deck before. I created this based on forum threads that I had read. I suggest you do some research on relevant forums and see if anyone else has had the same problem and managed to solve it.

I have a 1988 J20 that I am working on. I installed this exact stereo because of the functions and I love it! Two downsides to my unit, the FM is dead (previous owner failed to mention) and I am too a young folk who loves old technology and new technology. You are the only individual who I have come across that seems to be knowledgeable able radio components. I would love to get your insight on how to fix my FM. AM works great. FM can turn on, but there is no static or signal. My precious Pioneer radio was able to get a clear signal from my antenna. My hold up is a few things: what part has gone bad, where can I find the part on the board and where can I order new parts? I would love to chat further if you are willing and able. Thanks, Ben.

Sorry Ben, I am not the right person to help with this. As I note in the video's description, I learned how to do this by reading this thread: comancheclub.com/topic/52385-what-minuit-knows-about-stock-jeep-radios/. He's the expert, not me.

how can i do this to the 1997 xj stock radio?

It depends on the exact mode of radio you have. If you have a CD changer, it might be possible to use that input by incorporating a switch in line with the audio cables from the CD changer. I used this method on a 1997 Jetta and a 2003 Mini Cooper.
