Russia cracks down on dissent as propaganda boasts economic and military success | BBC News

  • “The situation now in Russia is similar to Nineteen Eighty-Four,” librarian Alexandra Karaseva tells BBC's Steve Rosenberg.
“Total control by the government, the state and the security structures.”
In Nineteen Eighty-Four, the Party manipulates people’s perception of reality, so that citizens of Oceania believe that "war is peace" and "ignorance is strength".
Russia today has a similar feel about it.
The state media here claims that Russia’s war in Ukraine is not an invasion, but a defensive operation; that Russian soldiers are not occupiers, but liberators; that the West is waging war on Russia, when, in reality, it was the Kremlin that ordered the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

It’s ridiculous when the BBC wants us to see Propaganda, crackdown on dissent, brainwashing, and authoritarianism in Russia, when the same is happen in USA, UK, Germany and other western countries.
At least in Russia, their president is the power epicenter. In the west, campaign donors have all the power. Ruled by corporations and foreign lobby organizations like AIPAC. They will crack down on anyone who dares to criticize them. Just look at what is happening to the Pro Palestinian campus movement.

Western liberal democracies are nominally representative democracies, either republics or constitutional monarchies, but in practice they often function as plutocratic oligarchies dominated by wealthy elites and corporate interests.
While liberal democracies claim to uphold principles of political equality, rule of law, and protection of civil liberties, critics argue that the competitive nature of Western democratic systems concentrates power in the hands of a small ruling class.
The influence of money in politics, revolving door between government and corporate lobbying, and the outsized power of special interests undermine the ideal of government truly representing the will of the people.
Furthermore, the global spread of neoliberal capitalism promoted by Western powers has increased wealth inequality and undermined substantive democracy by prioritizing market fundamentalism over social welfare and egalitarian policies.
Liberal democracies are thus seen by some as a facade masking the reality of oligarchic rule serving the interests of a wealthy minority rather than the broader populace.
So while Western nations brand themselves as liberal democracies upholding democratic values in theory, in practice their political and economic systems concentrate power in ways that critics argue more closely resemble plutocratic oligarchies controlled by moneyed interests.

Russia (formerly the Soviet Union, from 1922 to 1991) is seen in the Bible at Daniel 11:36-45 as "the king of the north", that is engaged in a "pushing" (Dan 11:40, and not in a direct military conflict, since by 1950, both the Soviet Union and US had nuclear weapons, and there would be no winners in a nuclear war) against "the king of the south", the United States, after World War II ended in September 1945.
This "pushing" (or "butting of horns", meaning of the Hebrew word nagach) caused both countries to ramp up their military expenditures, especially the United States, that is far greater than the Russians, with the United States military budget often exceeding $700 billion annually or some 2.9 percent of GDP (gross domestic product), while the Russian military budget in the past was around $140 billion.(Note: with outbreak of the Ukraine-Russia war, Russia is now spending some 40 percent of its annual budget on the military)
So, at Daniel 11:42, 43, it says: "And he ("the king of the north") will keep thrusting out his hand against the lands (seeking to bring them under its fold, or "care", such as Venezuela, Cuba, Georgia, countries in Africa); and as regards the land of Egypt (or "king of the south", the United States), she will not escape."
"And he ("king of the north") will (effectively) rule over (or force the hand of the United States) the hidden treasures of gold and silver and over all the desirable things of Egypt (with "the king of the north", compelling the United States as "Egypt" to spend massive amounts of money on a military budget, its "hidden treasures of gold and silver"). And the (symbolic) Libʹy·ans and the E·thi·oʹpi·ans (or nations close by the United States, as Libya and Ethiopia are of Egypt) will be at his steps."
At Daniel 11:45, it says that "he ("the king of the north") will come all the way to his end, and there will be no helper for him." In the near future, what is expressed at Daniel 2:44, 45 will occur, whereby it says: "In the days of those kings (of "the feet and toes of iron mixed with clay", Dan 2:33, the Anglo-American world power, with the United States taking center stage on the world scene) the God of heaven will set up a kingdom (or heavenly government) that will never be destroyed."
"And this kingdom will not be passed on to any other people. It will CRUSH and put an end to all these kingdoms (or the entire political system, destroying both "kings of the north and south", along with the political system's some 8 billion supporters), and it alone will stand forever,"
"just as you saw that out of the mountain (God's sovereignty) a stone (God's Kingdom) was cut not by hands (or NOT through politics), and that it crushed the iron, the copper, the clay, the silver, and the gold. The Grand God (whose name is Jehovah, see Isa 12:2, KJV) has made known to the king what will happen in the future. The dream is true, and its interpretation is trustworthy."
