"We do feel absolutely bound to stick up for him, because he can't stick up for himself anymore" - Such an amazing friend right there, both Brian and Roger were so brave to get out in public and put the record straight.
Simon Swan, somebody had to defend Freddie Mercury, his family couldn't do it, as they felt that, maybe they couldn't cope with their loss, but I'm not saying that, Brian, and Roger could cope with their loss, at all. They defended Freddie, in a respectful, dignified, and loving way, only true friends could, in my humble opinion.
they are both angry and upset but i feel like roger is expressing it more and his eyes are rather red which implies he had been crying beforehand or was about to break down whereas brian just seems more composed like he is hiding his grief behind a wave of anger but he comes across as quite calm
@@окновмир-п6в, at least the friendship between Brian May, and Roger Taylor didn't end, and they kept on touring with Queen, without their frontman, Freddie Mercury, and bassist, John Deacon. I am glad that they did a film about Freddie Mercury's life, and career, in my humble opinion, even though, Freddie Mercury died almost 27 years ago, on 24th November, 1991, and John Deacon retired in 1997, 6 years after Freddie Mercury's death.
@@susanorchard1994, I think that, the world wanted to, too, in my humble opinion. At least, they had some good times together, with Freddie Mercury, and John Deacon, before Freddie died, and John retired.
Looking at this video and thinking back to when he died, the press lied, judged and over-dramatized Freddie's illness. He was a human being who was incredibly talented, kind and open-hearted. He really LIVED life to the fullest and unfortunately paid with his life. He is genuinely loved by millions of people and like The Beatles, ABBA and other brilliant musicians, QUEEN's music will last forever!!!
He was human and lived his life. No one knew there would be a disease that would kill and they didn't know how to prevent or how to treat it. But most people die from life choices. They get cancer from too much sun exposure. Heart attack from food choices, stress and lack of exercise. We want to judge when it's a rock star who dies from drugs or AIDS.
Corporate Cunts because he was many things, not One... yes he was gay, yes he had a sex life , yes he was an amazing vocalist, yes he was a great musician, yes he was charismatic, witty, charming, fun, and kind. He will go down in history for his talents ! Most dont care that he was gay
Corporate Cunts I'm not sure what being British or alex jones has to do with anything lmao You are the one pointing out trivial facts... him being gay is kinda trivial information dont ya think? We dont care, well unless your one of those that believe in everyone is supposed to be known for identity politics..
very noble of them to come on and be sure to defend this beautiful soul from the filtly scummy press ... you can see their sadness, and I love Freddie so we all do..... so so sad.
You can see the shock and devastation on their faces and in their eyes. Especially Roger, he looks like he had been crying right before they did this interview.
@@susanorchard1994, I think that, Roger Taylor looks like he's going to cry, or he's been crying, not only was Freddie Mercury his friend, and he was only 300 yards away, from Garden Lodge, on 24th November, 1991, when Peter Freestone called him, and said "Don't bother coming, cos he's gone", and Roger Taylor might have possibly wanted to see Freddie Mercury, before he died, in my humble opinion.
Freddie has to be one of the most universallu beloved men across all types if people and all ages. I'm 24 but I truly love Freddie. Not only a one of a kind talent but a beautiful soul...any man that loved his cats as much as he did is a great man! So great that he told off the piece of sh*t cat killer Sid Vicious. If I was able to take a time machine I would probably choose to see Queen at Live Aid. That time period was blessed with real music.
The thing I love a out Freddy Mercury was his kind, gentle, and beloved soul. These guys are Freddy family basically and The press was very insensitive & mean in his last days. I loved that Freddy was eccentric, brilliant, and flamboyant.
@@michaelasquith9791 that was well out of order from Peter Freestone. Them words still haunt poor Roger now. I know Peter Freestone was grieving as well but come on! Saying that to one of Freddie's best friends was really out of order IMHO
LOVE LOVE LOVE how Brian May addressed the stigma about AIDS "There shouldn't be no stigma...it's Everyone's problem now" *Bless you Brian May* Truer words were never spoken.
Brian May, what a gentle guy. As I have in previous comments. He is 1 of the greatest guys, anybody would want to interview, but if you offend Freddie Mercury, you see a different side to such a nice guy.
Roger and Brian have always remained loyal and loving towards Freddie which is a rare thing. At the time of Freddie's illness the press was nothing but disrespectful to this great man who brought so much pleasure to millions. They should have just left him alone instead of camping outside his home, eager to get a picture of a sick man. Disgraceful! He deserved so much better
@acrobatsutr, as I said in previous comments, I think that, Brian, Roger, and Adam are giving Queen fans a chance to hear some of their songs they recorded, when Freddie was alive, and before John retired. I haven't been to see Queen, as I was born in 1983, I know it wouldn't be the same, without Freddie's powerful vocals, and John's bass. Brian has his trademark Red Special guitar, and Roger has his drums, along with Adam, and I think they wanted to remember, and honour Freddie, after all these years. Some people say they are doing it for the money, I don't think that, at all, I think that, they are keeping Freddie's musical legacy alive.
@acrobatsutr Freddie would have wanted his music to be spread as far and wide as possible, even if it's through another frontman. But adam brings his own style to queen's music and Freddie himself said "never make me boring".
I think this is a disrespectful interview full of hounding assumptions. I really feel bad for those two.. they are just the sweetest people trying to enlighten people as to how wonderful of a man Freddie was.
This interview would NEVER have been easy. And it's unwise to make your love of someone contingent on the veracity of their perfect virtue, because nobody is perfect. You might have to turn your love into a monument as a testament to your own loving nature and what you give to people, if you find out they were actually evil and that loving them is toxic for you or you can only love them by lying to yourself about them or what they did. But short of that, all people are universes in their own right, and if they get lost and make a quite few bad mistakes, that doesn't mean you have to stop loving them or seeing the wonderful aspects of them.
No..this presenter was a friendly and Brian and Roger wanted to do this interview......it probably helped them a tiny bit with grieving, to defend their friend.
I agree, however once you're in the public eye the more private a person you are the more people assume that there's a taboo or unsettling reason for that. I've heard numerous stories about how people assumed he was on drugs or worse because of just how private the man was.
Kristy Fox, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon loved Freddie Mercury, not just as a friend, but as a fellow musician, too. It only seems right, that they should stick up for their friend, in my humble opinion.
Susan Orchard, I can't help, but feel sorry, and sad for Brian May, and Roger Taylor. They may have lost Freddie Mercury only a week before this interview was done, in 1991, don't blame them for wanting to cry, it is the media's fault, for saying really vile things about their bandmate, of course, they wanted to tell their side of Freddie Mercury's tragic, premature death, aged just 45. They also told us, as fans about how he was as a person. They respected Freddie throughout his career, they may have had creative differences, which lots of bands had, Queen were no exception in that. They couldn't go to Garden Lodge without fruit for Freddie Mercury, as he was dying. In 1 of the newspapers, it was splashed "Is Freddie ill" ?. Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon kept denying the rumours, until Freddie Mercury went public, on 23rd November, 1991, just over 24 hours later, Freddie Mercury sadly lost his brave, and courageous fight against AIDS.
Brian is the more calm of the group, roger looked so annoyed, and he really didnt like people talking bad of his friend, and the most saddest of them all was john deacon. After the death he played the tribute show but then shut out. He is now just retired, but it affected him the most.
Yes. Freddie was like an older brother to John. Freddie was the eldest of the band while John was the youngest and also the shyest. Losing Freddie broke him completely, poor man
@@dominewimbury2039 alot was going wrong in brains life around the time freddie died not just Freddie's death, his marriage was breaking up and his father had died but he kept going for his kids
I'm so glad Brian defended Freddie. Freddie wasn't a freaking sexual deviant. Yes be had lots of sex and had lots of lovers but they weren't just one night stands, he truly loved and cared for them. He even cared for the ass who is gave him AIDS. Freddie was a loving man and he was so lucky to have Brian, Roger and John in his life. They knew what a good person he was. So what if he was homosexual, he was a good man, a great friend and phenomenally talented. Nobody was to blame for Freddie getting AIDS, it was just circumstances and the ignorance of the time period. At least his death started the whole AIDS awareness and so much more is known about the disease and how to keep from getting it. The threat is still there but at least we have the knowledge now. Freddie's death was a huge loss to the world and to music as we know it. He was one of a kind and there will never be another like him. He is sorely missed. 😢
As I said in previous comments, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon saw the man beyond the disease, unlike certain newspapers. They loved, and lost Freddie, as a friend, we, as fans loved, and lost a musical idol, but his spirit is with Brian, Roger, and Adam, whenever, they go on tour.
Freddie was bisexual, but I love the way Brian and Roger defended him and to this day Roger is still loyal and protective of Freddie. Honestly thought Roger was going to reach across and rip that guys tongue out.
I applaud them for comming out so soon after Freddie's death to defend his honor against the press and their erroneous depiction of him. It cannot have been easy for them to put the pain they surely must have been going through to speak out against the media and defend him.
While everybody knows that they will eventually pass on, the complete shame here is that the media hounded him and made the last few years of his life even worse! It's bad enough to battle a relentless and fatal situation like AIDS, but to have damn vultures snapping pictures of you also and making up a story without any conscience... What a brave man he was and what close friends he had. I really enjoyed his songwriting and have missed the songs he never got to write, I'm sure some of his best works were yet to come. RIP Freddie!
The orangeblood persons comment was thankfully removed. Sadly there are lots of people in the world who live for nothing more than to be rude, disgusting, disrespectful towards anyone who is more successful in their lives than they can be or are. We have to learn to just ignore those ignorant people.
So they made him look like a very strange unlikeable loner who put his own solo career before Queen whilst leaving out that both Brian and Roger had done solo albums a year or some before. I find the movie so much in contrast with interviews like this one.
@@HERMAN130661 You know that Roger and Brian didn’t write the script do you? They made it very clear, their contribution was only in music, especially Live Aid. If they would have written the script, I’m pretty sure Roger wouldn’t want to see himself portrayed as a jerk who made fun of Freddie’s teeth, who cheats (even tho he cheated) and forgets his girlfriend’s name. We don’t know what happened so let’s not blame other people without knowing what truly happened
Queen were a class act in every way possible, not just musically, but in a friendship way, too. True stars all four of them. All four contributed to the band. Thank you, Freddie, Brian, Roger and John.
These two men represent what it means to be a true friend to someone you love. I so admire them in that they ALWAYS protect Freddie’s memory. Class acts both of them.
Poor Roger looks like he hasn't slept and has been crying. He looks like he's going to cry at any moment. So much respect for them. You can tell how much they love him. They never judged him and were there for him till the end. Poor Roger was racing to see him the day he died but didn't make it in time. I wish he was still here. Could you imagine what he would be doing now for music I think he would be so proud of the fact that the world has changed that gay marriage is aloud now people are doing more for people with HIV and not making fun of them. He was a gifted man with a huge heart for others for life and for music. I do hope Fred is resting in peace and I hope he did not suffer to much in the end. He was free spirited and loved life and well deserved to rest in peace. I love you always Queen.....
@@noname-jh3bd just imagine him alive today, posting cat pictures on Instagram and having a nice, domestic life with a husband and friends. No one ever really wants to get old, but damn, it's a simple joy that's robbed of so many people.
I feel like Freddie Mercury would have still probably Married Jim with or Without Gay marriage being legal cause hes Freddie mecury, he gets what he wants. I feel like a close resemblence to Freddie Mercury in the modern day could possibly be Brendon Urie because of how similiar they kinda are vocally and in personalty. I wish Freddie Mercury was still here cause he was a icon and he honestly would have loved modern day so much because of everyone in the LGBTQ and everyone whos still widely weird or just how people are now.
I have a lot of respect for Brian, John and Roger. In a time when when nobody knew for sure what AIDS was or how it was contracted, Freddie's best friends did not shy away from him. They were with him to the very end. Much respect gentlemen.
There is much talk about Freddie and Brian and how they didn't get on, Freddie loved Brian and vice versa in fact Brian suffered from depression for many years after Freddie's death and even thought of suicide. Roger was also very close to him,. their fights were never physical it was as Freddie said just egos but that was the reason they stayed together so long.
That's right, you only have to watch the body language between them to see they loved each other, imagine how long they spent around the mic recording those classic harmonies which were quite beautiful they surely knew it, the sort of unique and very personal once in a lifetime experience that would become part of musical history.
I am a huge Queen fan and i've never heard that they didn't get on. I've heard about disagreements and arguments (who dosent have those with people you spend years with) but not flat out "not getting on".
mojopin 70 lets not forget about John. Him and Freddie were extremely close and his death hit him the hardest. Even Brian said that he’s still worried that depression might still consume him till this day.
It makes me sad that he wanted to commit suicide. During that time, his father passed away, he had a divorce, and his best friend died. Good thing he didnt
I had a childhood friend who died from Aids. He loved dearly the young man who he contracted it from and was heart broken, while the other man went around joking about it openly. My friend knew this and just gave up and passed on. My heart will be forever broken. He can't be replaced, he, as Freddy, trusted everyone and loved unconditionally and died with a broken heart. Rip Freddie, Jeff, and to all who lost their lives to this dreadful disease
I'm sorry about your friend. That is absolutely disgusting and if I may say so is cold-blooded murder as the other individual knew he was passing it on.
The Press had no idea of what Freddie and the rest of Queen was going thru, but they're all so opinionated and judgemental. Makes you want to slap them all across the face.
At 3:06 you can see just how angry Brian May is over what he just heard, yet he still manages to compose himself and speak like a gentleman. Such a classy man, both he and Roger were so wonderful for speaking out and defending Freddie. It must have been very difficult for them, especially so soon after his death.
These men are still in shock. They have lost their friend. It is inappropriate to beguile this man by exposing his private life in a way that is totally untrue. People are mean. We still love you Freddie.
An angry Roger is usually a sight to behold, the fact he stayed relatively calm speaks of his deep distress. They’re right about the UK press of course which is still largely living happily in the gutter.
ALIEN RIPLEY, Brian May, and Roger Taylor look angry, cos certain newspapers were having a shocking opinion of him (meaning, Freddie Mercury) saying, "He was a wild, bisexual lover" about the late, great Freddie Mercury, obviously the dead can't defend themselves, and Brian May, and Roger Taylor were defending Freddie Mercury, and Brian May, and Roger Taylor knew Freddie Mercury since their time at college. Thank you, Brian May, and Roger Taylor, for a great interview, and giving the press a piece of your minds, Freddie Mercury would be proud of you both, in my humble opinion.
@Mowac, that is true, I have seen Brian May's interviews, and Brian is a good judge of character. He is without question 1, of the best people, in the world, anybody would want to interview. Brian does like a joke or 2, he has a lot of respect, and he is a gentleman, beyond words, but this is about his how best friend, and late bandmate, Freddie Mercury passed away from AIDS, so you can understand the hurt, anger, and fustration he feels towards the media, in my humble opinion.
I just can't imagine how awful that time must have been for them. One week after his death and they are doing an interview. how heartbreaking. It must just be all so overwhelming and such a blur. So happy to see them in the public eye again and be able to give Freddie the tribute that he really deserved with this amazing movie.
Yes, he really is. I have never met him but yet I miss him so much! But just imagine the music he's doing in heaven with Beethoven and Mozart. And I think he has really spectacular shows up there!
Brian and Roger have continued to stick up for Freddie after all these years. This is and was true friendship they both had for Freddie. The press can be evil when it comes to the private lives of celebrities. Clearly, Freddie did not owe them an answer when it came to his sexuality or HIV/AIDS. As far as I'm concerned it was never the business of the press or the public, which is why I respect that Freddie made the choice to release the information on his terms. Ever since I was a little girl, my father would play Queen's records and I feel -n-love with their music and Freddie's nearly 5-octave vocal range. All that matters is he's remembered for the music. Love live King Freddie Mercury. RIP
Poor guys. The probably didn’t want to do this but felt like they had to defend Freddie. He was literally a prisoner in his own home in his final months because the media camped out trying to get a photo.
Freddie had a flat in Montreux and he visited it in October.Jim Hutton, Joe Fanelli ,Terry(his driver)and Tony King went with him.Jim wrote Freddie used the trip to find some peace and make some final decisions. They went to restaurants every evening. They came back to Garden Lodge 3 weeks before his death. The last 10 days press set up a camp outside the house with 6-7 dozen of them but Freddie never knew they were so many. Once Jim took the water pressure machine and started to "clean the roof". There were some screams from the other side of the wall
There was an interview on Freddie where he told the interviewers that he isn’t really the person he was on stage. Off stage he was quite humble and shy. His performance was obviously all for show. There was one point in his lifetime where he did hit the rails and took all sorts of drugs and partied, which was not long after he broke up with his wife Mary. He partied like there was no tomorrow. Then one day he left that scene and got straight back in to his band Queen. He was and will forever be the best band in history. His legacy still lives on in 2018, and will remain strong forever ♥️
exactly. i dont understand why people say it was his fault he died. he didnt know he had aids for a while and what was he supposed to do.. not have sex? I mean just because hes gay/bi doesnt mean he should be discriminated from what straight couples do.
No one in the 80s understood aids. Even today they think it's only gay or a black disease. Straight married people can get it. People want to be ignorant :/
On the documentary "Queen: Days of our lives" Roger says that he was on his way to see Freddie when he received a call saying "Don't bother coming cause he's gone". We can understand how much pain he feels in this interview, he was Freddie's best friend, and he probably hated himself because he couldn't be with Freddie on his last moments...
Freddie wasn't alone when he died.I think it was a pity that Roger didn't see Freddie even if he was dead because he looked so radiant and peaceful. But I can understand Peter Freestone , he was busy with many things after Freddie's death , Jim and Joe was devastated, Mary was on her way and his parents and sister too. He didn't know if it was going to be very emotional.
I agree with Brian May, and Roger Taylor, when they said, "They (meaning, the press) didn't know Freddie Mercury like his close friends, including Mary Austin did. He was a kind, generous, and private man". They did a good thing in protecting their friend, Freddie Mercury, and Brian May, and Roger Taylor were quite right, he was a rock giant on stage, but very, very private, behind closed doors. RIP Freddie, Mr and Mrs Bulsara, and Freddie's partner, Jim Hutton. 😥❤
There was this moment during their final live performance at Knebworth when John is seen throwing bass away in a fit of rage. It has been brought forward that he did it because he was tired of the tour and wanted to go home. But what both Brian and Roger have since admitted was just prior to John exploding, Freddie took the guys apart in the backstage and said "I fucking can't do this anymore!" and being totally serious, at which they all realized that something was VERY wrong. Because performing live was Freddie's biggest love of all. So it was not just the exhaustion that made John go ape, he knew Freddie well enough to know that this indeed would be the final time Queen played live. Freddie never made jokes like that and thus worried and angry, he took his bass off and threw it away in not just the literal way.
RastaSaiyaman The band fought in Madrid a few days before, and during the fight, Freddie yelled out “I can’t fucking take it anymore! My whole body is wracked with pain!” At the time, the band didn’t think much of it since Freddie was known to exaggerate how tired he was at the end of tours. However, this time, he was dead serious.
The talk shows only wanted to focus on his disease. Freddie was so much more than this terrible disease!!! He was a human being with feelings and they absolutely did everything to ruin his memory!! Great friends Brian and Roger!! RIP Freddie!!
What pisses me off is that people back then and even now a days say that anybody who contracts AIDS deserves to die. I was reading that after Freddie died people were saying that he desevered to die because he had AIDS. I have read that Freddie was in a ton of pain because of this horrible disease. He never let his pain show in his face. He is truly a legend.
Trish Johnson I know! when I was a lot younger I used to have the same mindset, anyone who uses drugs, anyone who gets STDs or AIDS deserved to die.. whenever I think back on it I get goosebumps. Nobody deserves those terrible things especially someone like Freddie.
GeoH Yeah nobody knows when and how they'll die. It's like shaming someone who died of a heart attack because "Well they liked eating junk food so they deserved it, no sympathy from me." Doesn't make it less sad, they're gone!
Trish Johnson. Freddie was bedridden, partially blind and also had a foot removed towards the end of his life. The man suffered dreadfully from this dreadful virus. The press did not give a toss about any of that they just wanted that last photo of him. Disgraceful!
The fact is he died from Aids and he didn't catch it from sitting on a toilet seat but he lived his life the way he wanted and nobody is in a position to judge, each to their own,it was a sad loss to the music world. One can only get away with the stage antics and costumes if they can sing like he could,to see his face as he came onstage at Live Aid you could see it was what he loved,RIP Fred...
The first time I heard Freddie’s voice I was somewhere over the Atlantic bound for London & suddenly through those cheesy little headphones the airlines would give you began the words “is this the real life “ .. I knew rock would never be the same & I Thank God I’m alive and have gotten to enjoy their music, voices , writing, the unbelievable creativity they all brought us. Freddie, someone still loves you, about a hundred million someone’s. Miss ya all my days,
Freddie was definitely missed as you could tell in this broadcast!!! I salute Brian and Roger for trying to talk about their dear departed friend as they all were. Friends to the end was what they were and they stood by Freddie not matter what!! God love these guys!! I commend these fellas for being the true and dear friends that they were!!! RIP FREDDIE!! WE STILL AND ALWAYS WILL LOVE YOU!!!
How Brian and Roger held it together in this interview is a great testament to their character. It must have been so hurtful having to sit through these interviews with misinformation being presented to them.
This clip proves that Freddy had known he was ill for over 5 years before he passed, many pple keep on saying the film is innacurate because he didnt k ow before LIVEAID but maybe he did know back then..
Mr.Bright Side Me. Just a couple of hours ago. My face is red from crying. Magnificent movie. Magnificent Rami. If it doesn't win Best Picture and or Best Actor it will be an outrage.
Two of the lovliest people in rock and in the entire world. What great friends. All four men are really great human beings. It's hard enough to find one loyal person in your life, let alone three others. All of them were really fortunate to have each other. ❤
I love Roger and Brian both so much for looking out for their fallen brother. I never knew Freddie, and I was teary watching this. How they kept their composure long enough to do this interview, I'll never know. But only a week after - it probably hadn't fully hit them that he was gone. 😭
You can see the respect Brian talks about between the band even though Freddie isn't around any more he still keeps that even though he mentions how much more open they can be
None of which were disrespectful on the part of the interviewer - he addresses problems Queen and Freddie faced the years prior to Freddie’s death, and gave Roger and Brian a chance to have their say about them. He’s being the complete opposite of disrespectful, and trust me, if he had been, Freddie and Brian would have walked off stage. Brian has done so more than once during an interview.
Just came across this and I’m so hurt and saddened by this. You can tell not only by their physical demeanor but by their voices that they’re completely distraught. And how Brian just keeps looking up like he’s looking at Freddie each time he talks and how Roger doesn’t make much eye contact or indication of anything, he keeps wiping his eye because he can feel tears falling from it.
I completely respect these guys. They decided to go and speak up, even though the last thing they wanted to do was speak to the press that was demolishing Freddie's image. That's true loyalty and friendship right there.
Class act on Roger Taylor and Brian Mays part. The interviewer sounded like he was trying to get the dirty parts and Roger and Brian still defended Freddie. THAT is the definition of brotherhood.
What AMAZING AND LOYAL FRIENDS. They KEPT his secret. Only when Freddie chose to make the official announcement about his health, then his friends spoke about the disease. To bring light and educate the world about this horrible disease. “ We are absolutely bound to stick up for him because he can no longer stick up for himself.” Now THAT’S having your back! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This only goes to show that tosspots like Baron Cohen and everyone who wanted him to desecrate Freddie's memory were just wrong. The actual movie got it right; it portrayed Freddie like a human being and not a circus attraction. Eat it, critics.
They're not just incredible musicians, they're friends who stick closer than a brother. Very thought provoking and carefully considered words by Brian. You could tell Roger wanted to speak his real mind, but held his composer for Freddie's sake. Great, great gentlemen these two & I'm so happy they're still touring & blessing us with their undying and beautiful music. I look forward in seeing them again in N.Y soon. God Bless Queen. 👑 PS- What ever happened to J.D? I've never seen him ever since Freddie's passing. No appearance in documentaries... nothing. Did he even contribute in the making of Bohemian Rhapsody, the movie?? After all he played a large part to the bands success & wrote many of their awesome songs. What happened to him?
He participated in the tribute concert for Freddie and also the song Brian wrote for Freddie in 1997 "No One But You." You can see him playing in the video. Beyond that he is retired now but still overseas the finances. I've read that he is apparently planning to see the movie, just at home with his family.
@@TheaterPup Thank you for replying. I've also learned that John Deacon took Freddie's passing a lot harder than the other band members, although it was hard for them all.

Indeed. Right up there with Neil Gaiman's words about AIDS: "There's no innocent or guilty. There's just dead."
Tim Bit I agree, is there “ stigma” around those with Cancer? Illness is illness and those who are sick need to be loved, end of!
Brian May, what a gentle guy. As I have in previous comments. He is 1 of the greatest guys, anybody would want to interview, but if you offend Freddie Mercury, you see a different side to such a nice guy.

Also Philadelphia did alot of good in addressing the stigma.
"we do feel absolutely bound to stick up for him because he can't stick up for himself anymore" 😢 that's true friendship
Yeah😢😥
Roger and Brian have always remained loyal and loving towards Freddie which is a rare thing. At the time of Freddie's illness the press was nothing but disrespectful to this great man who brought so much pleasure to millions. They should have just left him alone instead of camping outside his home, eager to get a picture of a sick man. Disgraceful! He deserved so much better
Don't forget John.
@@Bpg5012trick, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon, all loved, and respected Freddie Mercury, in my humble opinion.
@acrobatsutr I couldn't agree more with your comment! John keeps getting forgotten but I have utter respect for the man. And long live the Queen!
Sarah Blackwell I think the presenter loved Freddie. He calls him magnificent and a musical genius. I think it was an uncomfortable interview.
I thought there was nothing wrong with the Interviewer. I thought he was very respectful and complimentary.
I agree, however once you're in the public eye the more private a person you are the more people assume that there's a taboo or unsettling reason for that. I've heard numerous stories about how people assumed he was on drugs or worse because of just how private the man was.
They were so close to each other and never spoke ill of him and have been loyal to their mate...
Very true. I have so much respect for how much they protected and loved one another.
Kristy Fox, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon loved Freddie Mercury, not just as a friend, but as a fellow musician, too. It only seems right, that they should stick up for their friend, in my humble opinion.
Roger will still rip your head off if Freddie is disrespected.

They weren’t friends, they were family
Both of them look heartbroken, devastated and at any moment going to break into tears.
John Deacon was that heart broken, he couldn't go on, with out Freddie.

RIP
Brian and Roger's faces express the mood of the whole interview.

Disrespectful moments by the interviewer: 3:06 5:03 6:25
What an asshole interviewer
None of which were disrespectful on the part of the interviewer - he addresses problems Queen and Freddie faced the years prior to Freddie’s death, and gave Roger and Brian a chance to have their say about them.
He’s being the complete opposite of disrespectful, and trust me, if he had been, Freddie and Brian would have walked off stage. Brian has done so more than once during an interview.
Jayce it would have been kinda hard for freddie to walk or stage and you can tell that brian and rodger were upset by the questions
At 5:03 Roger seems to feel really offended by that question
Ines Fonseca his jaw literally dropped
Just came across this and I’m so hurt and saddened by this. You can tell not only by their physical demeanor but by their voices that they’re completely distraught. And how Brian just keeps looking up like he’s looking at Freddie each time he talks and how Roger doesn’t make much eye contact or indication of anything, he keeps wiping his eye because he can feel tears falling from it.
I completely respect these guys. They decided to go and speak up, even though the last thing they wanted to do was speak to the press that was demolishing Freddie's image.
That's true loyalty and friendship right there.
Their faces during this interview was heart breaking.
I’m crying Rn.
It's great to hear these 2 talk even now about their love for Freddie! To me this is what a family is all about
They always protect each other. They're family.
They weren't just band mates... They were brothers to each other
They were rock stars, legendary but most of all they were a class act! Love Queen! RIP FREDDIE we love and miss you!
We have to stick up for him, because he can't do it for himself.
This kills me, it absolutely kills me
Class act on Roger Taylor and Brian Mays part.
3:08 poor Brian had a nervous gesture, he couldn’t stay still out of anger. Roger on the brink of tears for the whole time
They're not just incredible musicians, they're friends who stick closer than a brother. 👑
PS- What ever happened to J.D?
I still talk to Freddie and can feel that he listens to me then gives me a reply back when I dream ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Great quote from Roger Taylor “we do feel bound to stick up for him cause he speak up for himself anymore ”
I believe it hurt them all as well as everyone. I think John Deacon was the one who could never deal with it
Rip Freddie
I am heartbroken yet my heart is warmed by the pure love he had
Everyone can see here that the success of Queen was no sheer luck. It came from the minds and souls of 4 highly intelligent individuals full of integrity. Something the new generation of musicians and especially their producers is not only missing but does not even try to achieve.
I think deaky didn't show up because he was absolutely heartbroken. Brian and Roger were too, but they had the rage to defend his poor soul from all those lies.
I feel bad for those 2. They were brave for doing this.
So sad John couldn't come too
Looking at Brian and Roger I can say for sure - they were devastated
" we are bonded to stick up for him because he can not stick up for himself
anymore ……….."
it is sooooooooooooooo crying sad. They never needed to say that before. :(
Did they really interview them a week after? That’s very unfair, at least give them some time to grieve come on! Roger looks like he’s about to break down completely and I know at the time Brian wanted to commit and he said himself if he wasn’t a family man he would have
haaseerabo Wait, "commit suicide"?
Brian said he was fighting depression and sucidial thoughts after Freddies death.
Marti Wow it honestly hurts when you lose a close friend like that.
I doubt they were forced to do this interview.
The interview happened around December 1991. They wanted to go on TV to set the record straight from what the press was saying.
I want to give Roger a hug, he looks so heartbroken
The sadness in their eyes hurts my heart.
