Reference One takes the best elements of Pearl's original Reference and Reference Pure Series drums to make an uncompromised, total percussion instrument where every element combines to create a drum sound you've never experienced before.
Each reduced-thickness EvenPly shell in the Reference One set is fitted with MasterCast Die-Cast hoops for a radical combination of sustain and attack. Included with Reference One, Pearl’s R2 Air Tom Suspension System delivers perfectly balanced, weightless tom mounting for high-yield tonal clarity. Available with the optional GyroLock L-Rod Tom Holder.
The Reference One shell and hardware Recipe elevate the professional drum set experience with shells that are tuned to draw the best tones from each drum. 8" and 10" shells are EvenPly-6 (5.4mm) Maple/Birch for more attack and higher pitch. The 12" tom (the "Middle-C" in the Reference tom spectrum) is all Maple for the tonal center. 13," and larger toms add Mahogany inner plies to lower pitch and add tonal depth. Floor Toms and Bass Drums are an 8-ply Mahogany/Maple fusion to maximize bass frequencies.
Choice of five In-Stock Premium and Custom finishes, and this kit is shown in a Red Burst Stripe finish with a 13x5 Omar Hakim Signature Snare Drum.

Although I had heard of Omar due to Modern Drummer magazine in the early 80s, I hadn’t heard him play until Sting’s Bring On The Night live record. That album blew me away overall, but it definitely cemented in my brain the name Omar Hakim. He is still a joy to watch and listen to!!
Incredible drummer! Always an inspiration to me. No matter what he plays,he lifts you up into his realm of positivity and incredible Rhythm!

Omar's list of collaborations is like a who's who of the music business...the guy is a LEGEND.
The best for me!! I still have a poster signed by him in my room. Omar hakim was having a caipirinha on the beach promenade in front of their hotel in Ipanema. Timidly I approached and asked for an autograph! The year was 1989 and that Brazilian Madonna tour was unforgettable!

1st time I saw Omar was at the Tower Theater in Philly with Weather Report in the early 80s. As a young aspiring drummer I was utterly blown away. Been following his storied career all these years. It's been a pleasure.

I first heard of Omar Hakim from my drum teacher in college. I knew of him from Night Music with David Sanborn and saw how versatile his playing was which amazed me how he could transition from one style of music to the next on that show. My teacher was so impressed by him that he told me about Omar which I checked him out even more. What a greatly talented musician Omar is.

I think EC2 is great combi with not only Pearl but also Sonor SQ1 SQ2, DW Collector, and Dixon Artisan. Evans has wonderful tom heads; G12(or G14), G2, Black Chrome, and Hydraulic, but EC2 is back to basic.

I’m not a Pearl guy, but I feel they’ve had a solid handle on making killer sounding floor toms for a couple decades now
Omar is probably the best tight groove drummer out there. I want to hear more minimalistic funk-pop rhythms in the solo.
