    I’m sorry but you are wrong. They are fraudulently selling tickets for rooms they don’t have. They caused her issue and they need to give he the $5500. I’m a lawyer and even if there is some fine print in the contract I’d still make them pay for those tickets AND I’d award punitive damages for them ruining her vacation AND I’d make them pay for her legal fees. It’s not okay when airlines do this and it’s not okay for a cruise line to do this. Since this seems to be a common occurrence I will avoid that company.

    I disagree, this is not her fault. A cruise ship has no business kicking paying customers off board when they know they have folks flying and taking vacation dates. Insurance should be for unexpected natural disasters or for missing flights, not for overbooking. That is caused by the cruise.

    I get what you're saying, get insurance. It's a lot of money. But this is also simply wrong. How can they be allowed to over book and force people to lose their trip, not just the cost which is ALOT, but for a 70 something year old person, it might be their bucket trip. As office workers, we don't get a lot of time off, have to coordinate for weeks /months between work and school and everything that's going on to get away. I can understand if this is happening to someone on a short trip - especially for their own home base - like you live in Miami and your trip is from Miami. But this one is absolutely ridiculous. I have to disagree with you on this one J. At the most, you can only expect someone to get trip insurance. However, in this case, the cruise line “cancelled” the trip with out forcing a cancelation until the last minute. I believe the correct term for this is breach of contract. When you buy a cruise fare, you have every expectation the cruise line will accommodate you for the fare being paid (usually thousands of dollars and months in advance). I’m not sure how insurance will handle this as the cruise wasn’t cancelled.

    • @tscoffey1
      @tscoffey1 Год назад +7

      If you read the contract for your cruise, the cruise line has the option to bump you like this. And since the airfare costs are not part of the contract, Celebrity is not liable for them. The cruise buyer has the responsibility to mitigate any possible expected loss contingencies, like airfare, with insurance. This is simple due diligence.

      Not everyone has overflowing pocket money. A cruise is a huge expense and often a once in a lifetime purchase. On an airline full-fare paying passengers can usually cancel up to the last minute and get a full refund so the airline may lose out if it cannot resell the seat. On a cruise line, they will never give you a refund if you cancel the day before departure. Once you've paid the full ticket, that's it. Theyre offering 100% refund and 100% future cruise credit, as well as full refund for flights. ZERO mention of this being oversold or a glitch, i know the ship is sold out though as its not showing on the website now. If I don't take the offer im scared they'll bump me and I'll get no FCC. My job will only let one person per shift take vacation at a time. I work weekends. We can only apply for time off 6 months ahead of time. I was there at MIDNIGHT to put in for two weekend shift in a row for my 40th Anniversary cruise. And there was someone else there too and needing one of the same dates! To say my schedule is not flexible is an understatement. Plus my anniversary is one one day a year, not just whenever. If the cruise line had just kicked me off with a, sorry, here is your money and a coupon for a different date! I would have been beyond furious. But, I did buy the insurance. $800 for just the travel portion. Yikes and ouch. Turns out it was a good thing as 3 weeks to the day before we were to fly out my husband was diagnosed with cancer. Trip was cancelled. All the precooked excursions have been refunded and I have put in for the rest to be refunded by the insurance. Hopefully we can travel for the 41 anniversary next year.

If this was a cruise that she and her companions could drive to and embark that's one thing. But having to fly into Japan and losing your $$ ? That just isn't right. To my surprise, my cabin was overbooked and the communication was horrible when I got on the ship. We had another couple's sea pass cards (who we did not know). All they wanted to offer was 10% future cruise credit. They couldn't figure it out for 3 days. I finally had to write the President of Royal Caribbean to get it sorted out. Upper management figured it out, but the frustration of the whole experience was terrible. I am questioning whether I should even book on Royal again.

    In 2020 I was on Radiance of the Seas doing a 34 night B2B cruise around Australia. About 2 weeks out they realised they double booked balcony cabins. For some reason about 3/4 of the passengers were booked as Guarantee (me included) so only came to light when they were allocating cabins.
    Some of the offers were insane. Full refund for double the cost of the fare. Full refund and move to an inside cabin for 34 nights. Move to 2021 and we'll cover your airfares if needed and 50% refund. Of course 2021 never came around. We were never offered anything as we booked an outside guarantee. Was $4500 each for a Guarantee or $9k to choose your cabin. Huge difference in price.
    And to top it off some people didn't make it to the ship in Sydney due to horrible weather which included high winds and flooding. Only good thing is we made it back in the day everything was shutdown and we completed our full cruise.

    Overbooking is definately not the customers fault and the overbooker (be it hotel/airline/cruise) needs to find or offer alternatives. Afterall, they sold a product they then did not deliver 🤷‍♀️ I worked in hotels before and if there was a case of overbook (a risk that gets taken to ensure the hotel will be truly fully booked, afterall there are usually guests that won’t show up 🤷‍♀️) the hotel would find an alternative accomodation (usually upgraded) for the guest. Usually of course nearby. Now, if you are the only hotel in a wide area, this routine of overbooking becomes extremely risky due to no alternatives available. I would say the same goes for a cruise 😅 Very risky business if you ask me. But again a risk the seller takes, not the customer.

    Unfortunately I believe RC has figured out it is profitable to overbook. I am sure a lot of people will disagree, but it is the truth. The airlines figured it out a long long time ago! The goal is to keep track of the total average cancellations, and then compensate with overbookings. Thusly keeping a higher overall capacity per flight/cruise. Keep track of the compisation payouts while comparing to profits of the higher overall capacity. All very simple math with the correct data, and trending analysis. Some people may be unhappy yes, but you must break some eggs to make an omelet. When the vast majority wake up, and realize big corp. needs to lose money before they understand, it will likely continue. Welcome to corperate greed, profits before people. True, ethical capitalism provides a good, quality service/product for the cost without stealing or taking advantage of people.

  • @madieh1597
    @madieh1597 Год назад

    So here's the thing. If you want to guarantee, as much as you ever can, that you will sail on a particular ship or fly on a particular plane, then pay the extra money upfront and choose your cabin/seat. Then that is as close to legally yours. Otherwise there is no law for cruises or airplanes or trains regarding overbooking. Congress barely can pass laws they mostly agree on, little lone a law on this topic.
    But the flipside of this is, if they do pass a law, there also needs to be stiffer penalties for passengers. Yes for airlines and cruises if you don't make your travel they can keep your money but for cruise ships that only covers the cost of the ship. That doesn't cover all the lost wages by the crew, the waste of extra food that can add up when a big group doesn't show or any other lost income from that empty space.
    And before someone says it, yes, probably the majority last-minute back out for valid reason but there are a good amount of people who just no-show and expect to be able to rebook later. So if we are going to hold the travel company responsible to not overbook, then there also needs to be a stiffer penalty for the passenger who just doesn't show up. Because a good portion of the time if you miss your ship now, either insurance or the ship company themselves will give you some future credit or refund depending on the circumstances. Otherwise to ensure that the cruises meet their revenue and expenses we will see prices increase to ensure shareholders of these companies are backing a failing product.
