I used to get excited as a kid and teen when they announced a movie adaptation of books and games.
Some were good others weren't, but we were atleast optimistic about it.

What's so sad is that Cavill took the role because he was a big fan of the games and books, it's literally the dream to have an actor who's passionated about the universe you're making a TV show about. But of course they gave this show to not only people who don't like the source material, but who even laugh at the books and the games and just want to use this universe to put into it their political message no one cares about. Thank God for the 3 Witcher games, at least we had one really good adaptation of this amazing universe, but it's sad because the TV show could have been a masterpiece if it had been made by people who are fans of the books

There was an episode of TNG in which someone came onto the Enterprise who had to use sign language (it was deaf actor Howie Seago) and Worf, whose race doesn't have deaf people because anyone not perfect is disposed of virtually at birth, comments on what a wonderful way it would be to communicate in combat - silently, so that the enemy couldn't overhear. It wasn't exactly a brilliant piece of writing, but at least it showed the writers were thinking about what they were doing. And that was in the 1980s.

These terrible writers have little self awarness. Im no writer and i cant write anything properly(I tried writing script for my comic, its really really bad dialogue! I mean REALLY BAD), and in all honesty, villains are easiest characters to write and thus are more memorable, that is if you can write a good villain

@@AxenfonKlatismrek The point is not that a villain cannot be a protagonist. Far from it. The point is that the "writers" think that what most normal people (not hollywood sociopaths) actually see as an irredeemable villain they actually consider the "good guy", the "hero", because they themselves have no working moral compass. They cannot really differentiate between good and evil, right and wrong, and see even the most heinous of crimes as negligible because they have all kinds of excuses for it, as raging untalented narcissists tend to do. Especially in Hollywood, where skill and talent have lost all meaning and all they care about is checking boxes to stroke their ego...

@@AxenfonKlatismrek I know what you mean, but when I look at movies and shows from just 10 years ago, the difference in quality is mindboggling. These days garbage gets greenlit again and again, and many of the writers and showrunners never did anything of value and came out of nowhere with 0 credits to their name, like those 2 clowns with rings of power. The head writer for She-Hulk even boasted that she bullied everybody at Marvel into submission where they were afraid being called racist or sexist. What a joke. It was obvious that back in the day much was done through nepotism, but there was also much that was done by talented and skilled people and that stood on its own. Where in Hollywood is that today? You really have to search hard and if you find something then its practically always done by somebody that has been in the field for almost half a century and should actually be in retirement. Almost everything done by the "younger" crowd in Hollywood is just toxic garbage and that does not bode well for what's to come...unfortunately.

I have more respect for Tolkien's books and think that they are the superior story, but Wheel of Time is still probably my favorite and most-read fantasy series (maybe tied with the Legend of Drizzit books). I knew that there was a good chance Amazon would f it up, but still had a spark of hope since this was before all the studios started piling on the shit fantasy adaptations. I know people had problems with the first Witcher season, but as someone that has never read those books or played the game, I had no reason to really dislike it and I do like Henry Cavill.

No, they f*cking cannot be forgiven like that. That's not how jurisdictions work at all!
But then it made me question: where does this idea come from in the first place?

(I actually did really like Season 1 of the show though.) However, if I took the job, first thing I would do is sit down and read the stories and watch the games being played. I'd also read a good bit of the fan commentary to see what they liked, felt was important, didn't like, etc. Only then would I start to write and try to write in a way that would please the fans. Czech guy who discovered the books through The Witcher 1 over 15 years ago here. The Witcher was my life for the past several years. I even joined LARP group of Nilfgaardians called Nazair Brigade.
What I as a hardcore fan hate about everything that Netflix have done to The Witcher brand is how they americanized it and stripped it of it's distinctively Polish atmosphere because they don't understand the culture so they just turned it into something they know:
    - the main Witcher show is a discount Game of Thrones
    - Nightmare of the Wolf is a discount Castlevania
    - Blood Origin is a discount Dungeons & Dragons
The reason why I fell in love with The Witcher is that it's so unique compared to other epic fantasy worlds but then came Netflix and turned into exactly the same thing we've seen being done over and over in the fantasy genre to the point that it became generic tropes so all the originality was lost and they've completely butchered the excelent story and characters from the books. How can someone fail so hard is beyond me.
If anybody cares I recommend checking out The Witcher Stories on RUclips. They're short fan films with original characters from the world of The Witcher and it captures the atmosphere perfectly with zero budget because it's done by people who love the books and the games and they know what made The Witcher so unique in the first place.

They simply cannot comprehend why most people value their ancient heritage and connect culture with land and ethnic ownership. How could they? Look at their "old" buildings, just a bunch of random nondescript stone houses from 1600 onwards and some fake attempts at recreating what they left behind in Europe, while we in Europe can easily point to much more majestic buildings and monuments that are at least twice the age and have uncountably more history to them. So instead of trying to understand what they lost, they simply declare that they are the cool kids, we are wrong and should destroy all we inherited from so long ago.

For example it used to be that ALL educated students of the past read some Shakespeare. I did in High School! Did any of the writers of The Witcher Blood Origin ever read ANY Shakespeare? I would be willing to bet money none of them have ever even been within twenty feet of an actual copy of Shakespeare. ALL they study in Universities and public schools today are "classics" of intersectional feminazi literature which were written the day before yesterday. They are people completely ignorant of thousands of years of human thought, history, and culture. That "I'm sad because i was to be married off and couldn't decide on my own life" narrative is one I've seen a lot, but ladies have more autonomy in western cultures than men do at this point. Men don't even get to decide if they're going to be parents, women have that choice almost exclusively, and men only get to be this if a woman permits him. She doesn't need permission to be a mother, just a sperm bank or someone drunk or thirsty enough to go for it. Careers here in the USA also open more doors for women than men, and women excel in entertainment and social media careers where men struggle to carve out a name for themselves with all the hard work and skill they can muster.
I was re-watching a season of Game of Thrones and in one episode, not long after Arya and Sansa were both back in Winterfell discussing their lives since being separated, and their ongoing sibling rivalry, one of them, Arya goes into a spiel about how 'we live in a world where women can't decide what to be for themselves', and I'm thinking, this is coming from a highly trained assassin that wanted to be an assassin to a noblewoman to in a leadership role that wanted to be a leader. Fekkin' wat?!

Not often you get an A List Actor genuinely interested in a Genre, it's books, it's lore and Universe. Then to have him come aboard would be EPIC!
Only to attempt to use him and subvert everything about it, instead trashing it's characters and lore, derailing it, in order to hijack it and use it to champion your insanity is beyond arrogance. You could see it coming off the rails during it's first season, the second was a mess, borderline disaster. Not tuning in for the Third thanks, even with Cavill aboard, it's done. That's why he left. He has every right to be disappointed and perhaps even bitter about it.
What I don't understand is the BIG PICTURE.
What do Disney, Amazon, WB, NetFlix and the rest hope to gain? They all may have DEEP Pockets, but surely hemorrhaging ocean fulls of money would have them rethinking their insanity. BUT NOPE. They have all Doubled and Tripled down on it.
    WHY?
What could you possibly hope to accomplish, other than K ILL N your Golden Goose and there by DESTROYING your Revenue Source and PROFITs?
Is the BIG PICTURE all about George Orwell's 1984? V for Vendetta? The Dystopian Utopia of a Brave New World? Fahrenheit 984? Animal Farm? Hunger Games? District 12?
Attempting to turn the Vast Majority of the Populace, who tend to be Centrists, into SHEEPLE? Serfs? Slaves of the State?
    Socialism?
Has it ever turned out well?
    Ever?

He's a gd psychopathic sage elf that travels through space and time for 1,000s of years searching for Ciri's power in order to harness world ending power. jfc. They trying to spin one of the most powerful villains (even without Ciri's power) in the Witcher universe as some dude with a broken heart over some other dude?
