  • Did you think dating advice was a modern thing? That only recently have "alpha" men tried to sell their advice on how to pick up women? Think again! Dating advice has been around for centuries, and one of the earliest examples is the Ars Amatoria, a 3-part Latin didactic poem written by the Roman poet Ovid in 2 AD. Considered one of the first European pickup artists and relationship coaches, Ovid's Ars Amatoria is a guide to finding love that is akin to "The Richest Man in Babylon" for personal finance, except much, much older.
The Ars Amatoria provides fascinating insights into the dating scene of ancient Rome, revealing that not much has changed in the last 2000 years. Ovid offers solid advice on how to pick up women, from where to find them to how to impress them. Although some parts are fairly manipulative or off-putting, much of Ovid's advice still rings true today. He also peppers the text with references to Greek myths, much like we reference pop culture and celebrities in our own times.
This video is based on a modernized version of the original text, with some interpretation and adaptation to make it more palatable to a contemporary audience. While the content has been preserved, it is not a straightforward Latin to English translation. The original poem has been transformed into a captivating and accessible guide for anyone interested in the timeless art of picking up women.
This video dives into Book 1, where Ovid lays the foundation for the art of love, particularly from a man's perspective. If you're intrigued by the guidance and advice in this video, don't miss out on Book 2, where we explore the secrets to maintaining a thriving relationship, and Book 3, which shifts its focus to advice specifically for the ladies.
Who knows, maybe Ovid can teach you a thing or two about the world of dating.

It's entertaining how the setting can change so much while people change so little from one age to another

Doing these videos, I've become more and more convinced that we are way more similar to our ancestors than the history books lead us to believe.

Loving a woman is undoubtedly foolish. Let's be convinced fools then. Loving a woman can be painful. We must tolerate the pain too. Loving a woman today and being abandoned tomorrow is inevitable. So never avoid another temporary love today. 😅😅

Hopefully not entirely inevitable 😅 I've been happily married for nearly 20 years.

@@TheLegendaryLore You are obviously a rare exception. In practice, most people have had one or two failed marriages and countless awkward relationships.
