It still looks kinda neat though, very antiqued.
I was going back and forth on whether I should try to salvage the paper. I LOVE the design but I’m removing it now as we speak😣
@@FlipItFurniture To each their own lol. You have to be happy with it in the end but it was cool looking lol.
I agree. Very antiqued.
I would have just gone with the antique look on the paper and primed the un papered part again. Happy accident? ❤❤
I paint on 2 coats of shellac and never had a problem even with mahogany.
I actually think it looks nice. It gives your piece more dimension
Always use the 'red can' of BIN Zinser (not the yellow) to counter tannins coming thru. It has never failed me and I'm always finding beautiful cherrywood or mahogany furniture to refinish so shellac is a real thing in my life! 😂
Great info! Im new to painting furniture and a little scary about mistakes. I like the idea i can mess up and redo 🙂 Painting furniture is a part of my healing journey 😊
I really like the tannins coming through the decoupage paper on this piece.
I really enjoyed your explanation of bleeding thru and I really loved the story behind Shellac! Very informative!
I’m so glad!!😊
Guurrrrllll I struggle with this also😫 They leach for months and months changing my finishes over time!! I like bleached light woods. So I can’t prime!!! Sometimes they turn PINKISH 🥲 you never know when they will show up and even on the same piece only certain boards leak!! Good luck 💙
Brilliant explanation. I kinda like the aged patina that was going on but I guess you could never know when it would stop 😵💫
I’m sure you’ll make it beautiful, cause that’s what you do ❣️❣️
It is shocking the shellac did not seal it! I was about to do this on a dresser, but now I will first coat with BIN. I guess since BIN shellac- based, then tannins could bleed from it also? At least when I researched how shellac was made, I quit minding it's high cost. I spray the interiors and drawers of all my wood furniture with shellac. The freahness is heavenly...no musty moldy, grandma's house smells ever.
Sorry Amy! Thanks for the lesson on shellac…I had no idea. That’s really a bummer that you have to fix it. I’m sure you’ll make it gorgeous again! 🥰🥰🥰
Thanks Kim! I hope so ❤️
My husband is a science guy and knows lots of fun facts. He told me years ago that shellac came from the lac bug. Eww! 😂
I painted my screened porch patio concrete floor which had something bleeding through that would not stop coming through and eating away the paint. I had professionals address this with no avail. So, I decided to do it myself. With a bit of research I used Dixie Belle Boss, 3 coats, 1st I scrubbed the floor , drying days between then 3 coats of Dixie Belle Sand Bar, then top coat with Dixie Belle and 3 coats of Gator Hide. Well, so far so good. I made it through a Carolina summer and winter and
It looks really nice. I do think I’ll need to decorate the gator hide in another year.
It’s just a suggestion. I’m sold on the boss! Hope it can help someone. 😊
You are very knowledgeable! Can’t wait to see it after you finish it!
You posted this at the perfect time Amy. Question for you! I am getting ready to paint a cherry wood dresser set, and I'm worried about bleed through. I have scuff sanded and it has taken off almost all of the very thin topcoat. I am going to be using dixie bell silk (anchor) I really don't want to prime under it. What is your opinion please.
Good luck with your piece. I am sure it will be beautiful after you redo it.
I always thought it was woods way of saying don't you dare paint me!!
I actually thought that too with this piece. It took me days to decide whether I was going to paint it or or not. After this, I’m contemplating restoring it. The problem is I probably won’t be able to sell it restored.
Hi cute stuff! good job sister
I’m thinking same thing!! Got antique look without another product!! Such as wax or starting all over again?❤
Plain shellac doesn't work for me as far as tannins. I wish it did because spraying that is so easy.
It is so easy! I’ve only had it not work a few and far between☹️
Amy is the shellac made from bugs after they die or are they killed? I feel you on tannins! 😒
I really like the tannins coming through the decoupage paper on this piece.

Eeewwww bug juice!!! On my candy too!!!!!!
🥴 yes!
I'm never eating a lollipop eww bugs so gross
Are you now using an oil based version of primer? Seems like the logical next step.
That is so sad.
Such a pity as it looked beautiful
Prime with oil.
Which do you use? Do you prime with oil and then use the water-based paint over it? 🤔
I’ve always thought that was a big no-no so I never tried before
@@FlipItFurniture I always prime with oil when painting raw wood because it's the only thing that blocks tannins. You can paint over it but it has to fully cure. Paint each coat of oil based primer and let it dry all the way to the touch before adding the next coat. It shouldn't be sticky. Depending on temp and humidity you may be able to do the next coat in 1-2 hours, or the next day. Do 3 or 4 coats, it should be completely white. Let it cure for a week at least before doing your base coat of chalk paint. It might delay the project but you can do can have a day where all you do is prime, and then those pieces that are primed will be ready for paint the next week. 👍🏾
😮😮😮
Looks old and interesting as is. Happy accidents! Thanks
I just ate Lemonheads last night ahhhhhhj! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
Ugh. That’s all I have to say. 😢
Why is talking about bugs, make us itchy? You were scratching your head 😮
