7:35 Installation Process Paul Ricalde shares secrets to replacing a pre hung door. Easy to follow instructions that will have you installing doors like a PRO!
I have watched so many videos on exterior door installations. They have all been great videos, but your video is next level. You have a real gift at explaining every step. Things I was unclear on have been made crystal clear. You have saved me so much money. Thank you, I truly appreciate this video.
This is by far the best vid I've seen on a pre-hung door install. Lots of great common sense (that isn't so common) methods here. Really dig the channel!
like your video a lot. Nothing like the Lowe's video that really doesn't give you a real picture of what goes on when changing out a door. You explain everything thoroughly good bad and how to handle it. Thank you
Very helpful. The quick demonstration on trimming drywall with the multi-tool saved me a lot of time. Running the screws behind the weather stripping was a real pro touch.
I'm glad I found your page. I like your explanations and you show were you are installing your hardware. Beginners can follow your instructions with ease.
Just ripped a door out the other day! But I'm opening up the frame to put a sliding glass door in. Once the wife is happy it's back to building your shed! Love your videos Paul.
Thanks, Paul! I'm in the process of replacing my door with concrete bottom. You gave a great explanation of it and all-around for the door replacement. Thanks.
My Son just received a quote to supply and install two rear exterior doors for $7,000 Now that I've watched your video, l will help my Son install the doors and his cost to me will be a cup of coffee
Nice video. I use electricians tape over the ends of caulk tubes. I put two pieces at 90 degrees to each other. I have had caulk keep for 2 years and still be good. A few years ago Mike Holmes hosted a show of handyman competition. He had guys hand double doors using used different sized doors in jams that were out of square and out of plumb. I think that would be a great video because some of us live in old homes that have settled and shifted through the years. I always enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work!!!!
Very good video, Call home repair person myself. Although I’ve just started getting into doing all kinds of doors. Over the years I’ve helped people doing but I’ve never felt like tackling them on my own but the last five years I’ve been doing them. In this video I wish I would’ve seen my very first time I tackled the door because I think it would’ve took out all the guesswork and all the problems that I had to figure out on my own. Great job man mad respect from one carpenter to another
Great video Paul. Very helpful. Getting ready to make a 12x12 shed , your videos been great. You helped me out big time making my lap joint fence gate. Still going strong 4 years later.
Very informative video Paul, I wish I had you to hang my the back door on my house 15 years ago, what a crappie job that guy did! New Subscriber. Awesome videos!
Thanks Paul! We had a big box store door installed 20+ years ago and it was never done right. We live in Texas and the clay soil plays havoc on foundations. We had that fixed about 5 years ago and I’ve been nursing this door ever since. Time for a new prehung front door for me this Spring! I built a few kitchens, but very little framing carpentry. I feel like I can now tackle this job right.
Thank you for this video! My existing door doesn't have interior trim nor do I have drywall so that simplifies things a bit. There was wood paneling but it broke and is all crumbled away. I have old ugly wood on the outside. My exterior trim is much wider though. I will probably have to sand it, repaint it, and put it back up. Might have to rip it down if my new door comes with exterior brickmold. I'm going to have to put in a proper header on my door-- it has a flat 2x4 for a load-bearing wall. Fun times. It's also crooked and is 1" lower on one side than the other. Bonus points, there's electrical wire running through the cripples. One trick I've found with removing doors is that you can pop the hinge pins up and out and then slide the door with off with hinges still on both the jamb and the door. Makes it easier to take the jamb out. I took hinge pins out to paint my door while it was on a table. I also needed to install a pet door. I wish my floor was level. It's actually rotted and the sill is rotted too. It will be sooo much fun fixing that up. LOL. I like how you did the flashing with the upper corners first. When we helped my friend put his front door in we didn't plumb up the hinge side first. But we got the frame plumb on each side-- but floor isn't level-- so the door ended up sagging and having huge reveal on the top and hitting the threshold at the bottom. We thought the top was level from all our checking. Not sure what went wrong-- but it's a 100 yr old house. In retrospect, I wish we'd put the knob on to make sure it would catch properly before finalizing the shimming. Also would have used nails with smaller heads on the outside trim. I suppose we can try to square it up better now, but part of the threshold was broken off. No concrete slab at my house. All wood & up on pillars. Makes patching a bit easier. Man, I wish I'd known the weather stripping came out. I was taping it off to avoid painting it when I was painting the frame. I could have just pulled it out of the way and put it back in! Back before I knew more about DIY I used regular Great Stuff around my door & it warped the frame so the door doesn't stay closed properly anymore. I have to brace things against it. While door got destroyed anyway after a few hurricanes though. Do you have a link to the DAP flashing tape? Having something that peels only one one part first would greatly help me since I am a total monkey and get things stuck to themselves and to me.
Thoroughly enjoyed that video. Why do I feel like I know you haha. Thanks for the wire nut idea that’s great! I subscribed keep up the good work! Putting in an exterior door for someone this weekend needed a brush up. Thanks my man!
I also liked the measuring tip... forever I have been trying to figure out how to measure accurately when butted against a side, and the tape bends over and becomes difficult to be precise...... now I know.... just measure to a common center scribe from each side...
Lots of great installation tips and love the Dynaflex product. I installed a new front door with sidelights, where I had to increase the opening. I ende3d removing the brick and adding a cement wooden siding which made it easier. I did notice some water damage around the rain spouts.
Hi Paul, I really learn a lot from you. As my home is being remodeled, I am able to watch things closely and have them re-do what I do not feel was done properly. Thanks for these tips and I, especially like the Poly Flash around the doors. I am going to request that to the builder. Happy Holiday!!!!
Great vid. Liked that you didn't spend a bunch of time talking about irrelevant shit like so many you tubers do. Got right to it. All the tips we're great as well except for maybe the "get a grip" stuff. Instead, spend a couple of extra cents and get those deck screws with the "torks" head. Work great and haven't stripped one yet. Again, great vid and great presentation.
Great video and the wire nut tip was worth it by itself, but then you threw in all that door installation business. Outstanding. I presume that this door came with the threshold, but have you had occassion to build your own? That would be an interesting and related topic I would like to see, and your method specifically. Thanks!
Great video it's the little tricks I always love. Sitting at the FD kitchen table and said look at this! Great idea. Also just bought that nail gun and love it.
Thank you for your very helpful and easy-to-understand home improvement videos. I usually review at least a half-dozen videos before attempting new activities, and your DIY programs are among my favorites! I am presently installing a replacement exterior man door in my garage, altering the width from 36" to 32", to accommodate the extended garage door sensors. I am a 60+ retired woman with no previous carpentry experience, but I enjoy learning and need to save money. Though I've encountered some challenges, I'm making progress and I'm taking pride in my accomplishments. Your helpful hints and advice, clear instructions and demonstrations, and product suggestions are wonderful! Having the correct tools for the job really does make a difference in the outcome and enjoyment of the project. I just got an oscillating tool, but I am also truly in need of the circular saw that you're giving away from WORKS. I believe it would be easy to handle and essential for future home improvement projects, which l confidently intend to pursue on my own. Again, I thank you for helping me with my new passion of improving my home, for many more years of enjoyment. I hesitate to share an embarrassing realization, which has delayed the completion of my exterior door installation. I can't believe that, at my age, I never knew that a 2" X 4" is really 1 1/2" X 3 1/2". This epiphany complicated my plan to "simply" add 2" to both sides of the man door to prevent future damage
You're very experienced. I enjoyed watching your video. How come you screwed the top of your door jamb? There's carpenters who do, and others who don't screw the top of the door jamb... one camp says it's to compensate for settling. Others say that the house is 10 y/o and shouldn't settle anymore. Your view?
Mines a question or more a request. Let's see how you replace an exterior door on concrete block wall. All the videos I've seen are always wood with siding.
You do a realistic video, not one to make it look like a child could do it! Real pro!
I have installed many doors and this guy is the real deal. Explains things well and doesn’t assume everything is perfect.
I thank you for not babbling. Most you you tube videos I have watched the guys babble on about stuff that you explain simply and understandably .
I have watched so many videos on exterior door installations. They have all been great videos, but your video is next level. You have a real gift at explaining every step. Things I was unclear on have been made crystal clear. You have saved me so much money. Thank you, I truly appreciate this video.

Agreed
I really like the idea about the wire nuts I never thought of that thank you very much and fantastic job.
Good morning Rockie, Thank you for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate you watching! Have a great weekend!
Same here, great idea!
@@GetCart3rCA Thank you Carter!! Have a great day!

Really liked your video. Definitely very informative. Really appreciate it. Keep up the great work
Awesome video! I'm getting ready to replace my garage door just like this one. Lots of tips and tricks other videos don't mention.
Just ripped a door out the other day! But I'm opening up the frame to put a sliding glass door in. Once the wife is happy it's back to building your shed! Love your videos Paul.
Thank you, getting ready to install a french door and wanted to make sure I had the right idea!
I'm sitting at the firehouse watching your videos and figuring out what projects I'm going to tackle when I get home. Thanks for the motivation!
My house was built in 1981 so I watch alot of DIY videos. This video was impressive so I subscribed immediately.
Thanks, Paul! I'm in the process of replacing my door with concrete bottom. You gave a great explanation of it and all-around for the door replacement. Thanks.

I really like your channel Paul. Very practical and usable information. And I’m also a retired career Firefighter. Stay safe brother.
Wish you were my next door neighbor brother. I'd get a ton of stuff done. Keep those videos coming. Thanks!
Thank you Paul of helping me with repairing Exteror door frame and facial wood trine to pvc framing
You took the time to really explain it from start to finish that was great thanks a lot
Great video Paul. Very helpful. Getting ready to make a 12x12 shed , your videos been great. You helped me out big time making my lap joint fence gate. Still going strong 4 years later.

New Subscriber. Awesome videos!
Instructions are very well explained. Great job !!
Your videos are always well made and very clear. I definitely will try to replace a door by myself now. Thanks for the video.
Once the warm weather arrives this is my next project. Have 2 exterior doors leaning against the wall waiting for spring to be installed.

Great idea wire nuts to seal caulk tubes! Beats Saran wrap and tape
Thanks Paul, another great video helping us to see what is in our "wheel house" and giving us courage to try.
You just took all the guess work out of this job. Another great video to save in my Home Improvement file. Thank you! Elsie is so cute!!!
Love the wire cap on the caulking
Excellent stuff Paul. I wish the frame hadn't been quite so perfect so we could see how to fix more problems, but you explained well. Thank you!
Great tip on caulking tip using wire nuts. I've always use an 2 in wood screw for that.
I have been using the blue wire nuts for a few years. The large blue ones are perfect and you get a very good seal.
Thoroughly enjoyed that video. Why do I feel like I know you haha. Thanks for the wire nut idea that’s great! I subscribed keep up the good work! Putting in an exterior door for someone this weekend needed a brush up. Thanks my man!
Excellent tips, great explanations and video showing all the details👊 Would love to see you install an exterior door that’s as easy as this one was😉🙏
Nice job Mr Ricalde, I full joy this video. Thanks for sharing.
Tons of nuggets of little tips there. Thanks!
Awesome video! Learnt new things and ideas. Thanks Paul.
I also liked the measuring tip... forever I have been trying to figure out how to measure accurately when butted against a side, and the tape bends over and becomes difficult to be precise...... now I know.... just measure to a common center scribe from each side...
well done. I like the screws behind the weather strip.

Great stuff Paulie! That's doing it right. Cheers!
Excellent video with good tips. Like your pup.

I need more info on flashing over windows and doors. Do you have a video on that?? Learned lots of great little tips here - thanks Paul!

The most helpful video I’ve found so far! But can you reinstall the same hardware on these doors?
You always make it look so easy. Thanks again for another informative video.
Just stumbled across your page, your content is awesome man!!! Thank you
Great video! Exactly what I was looking for. It's too bad in Canada we don't have Get a Grip. We just use Robinson screws.
Timeless knowledge. Great. Thank you...
Very good video. I’ve used wire nuts on caulk tubes also. They’re a great fit on most tubes. Appreciate all the videos and information you’re sharing.
Good stuff Paul!!....learning a lot from you! Thanks!
Damn, been changing doors for many years but your technique and ideas is awesome. Only if I can work with you in person. Your new fan from 671 GUAM

Thank you for making and posting this video.

Thanks Paul, wish I had this video before changing out a door for my sister-in-law . Contractor left a lot of mess.
Very well explained!!!
I like the idea with the wire nuts to cap off caulk tubes!
I used to use a screw for caulking but will use wire nuts from now on.
Thanks again for the info. Never heard of get a grip. Going to have to check it out.
