You should take a look at Operation Liftoff. Alex Donsky, a bulgarian tennis player, shows his way into pro tennis and talks a little about earnings, costs, etc. He hasn't been posting that much tho
Almost all sports are crazy expensive these days, but tennis and golf are among the worst.
So the question is how are u making money to pay.... are u some uk royalty

One of the biggest regrets I have looking back at my tennis career (top 100 USA & played at a small D1 school) was not taking ownership of the costs. If I had half the mindset you have back then I think I could have taken it farther. This is really awesome to see going to keep up with your career!
Been watching for about 4 years now we're the same age, but I'm ending my tennis journey this year as I go to college, but I pray for the best for you and your journey to reach new heights. You were one of the channels that I watched consistently when I first started playing about four years ago couldn't thank you enough for the motivation. Good luck

How do you manage to get everything? Training, video recording, editing? Does RUclips take up a lot of your time? Or is it a way for you to rest and relax?
You are amazing, I wish you luck on the way to the first ATP point, but that's just the beginning of your journey. My costs for my first ATP point were similar. In Serbia, training is cheaper, while in Australia, for example, I paid $ 100 for 1 hour of private training. In addition to great sacrifice, happy circumstances play a big role, which can raise your self-confidence to a higher level. I was not very lucky to continue after winning a couple of ATP points, and if I came to the ATP list young. Life and tennis experience, work habits, job of a tennis coach is invaluable. You definitely have a level much higher than 1 ATP point, just believe in yourself, and never give up on your goals.
I feel like this is what many young players wanted to know years ago

Today was my first tournament of 2022. I won the first round 11-9 in the third saving 2 match points. I lose on the second round 12-10 in the tie break and in the second set I was having 5 match points. It was a painful lose.

I played tennis for 8 years,I left it when I was 15,I played professional for 3 years,and I was always shocked about the amount of money my parents paid on me to play tennis,it really made me feel uncomfortable(especially shoes,strings and fuel),I remember when my mother and my grandmother drove me to the court and my grandmother that lived most of her life in a poor village in Morocco said that in her time tennis was only for the richest people and my mother answered that it is still only for the rich,I appreciate my parents so much for that they spent their time and their money for me to be happy,I wish you luck and waiting to see you in big tournaments
same here ...all the family money goes into the tennis for my brother Lucian and me. We both went to school & never gave it all up - so if tennis does not work out we have a good education.

I'm married to a former wta 49 player, and I learned what dedication, luck and skill it requires to get all the way to the top. I have played futures in my younger days, but pretty quickly found out, that I didn't have the determination to persue a pro career. Hey bro! Having the same journey as you, keep it up!
One advice I can give you, to not underestimate is to buy a stringing machine (I suggest pro stringer, maybe about 800/900€) and learn how to restring racquets by yourself! Gives you some kind of sense of responsibility but also, if you need some tension changes you can adapt by yourself the second after you step out of a training session, you can just do by yourself the calculation in how much time that money will “come back” to you. Good luck 💪🏼
Is it worth his time? I had my own in college but was breaking strings so frequently it was a chore to come off a court and have to spend 30 min per racket just on that.

My son is 17 and he is also trying like you to get the 1st ATP pont ,we are staying in India in International community ,luckily we have to pay for the tennis court only 10$ per month and I'm couching him myself, so our expenses a much more less, tournament traveling and fees + hotel,can be from 100$ to 300$, 1racket stringing + strings~ 10$ . Here is no much sponsors even for the top players,and we are not Indian origin so it even more difficult. Traveling also can be very tough specialy on summer.Hope you will get 1 st point soon! I was a county level sprinter as a kid and got to semi pro football level at 16. Played tennis just in the summer with friends
Had my first tennis lesson at 27, first tournament at 32 got to 632 UK Open Men’s singles in my late 30’s. That level of investment and commitment from age 7 makes me think if I could have been pushing for an ATP point.

Great Great video, I really like your content and I wishing the best for you, I'm sure one day we will see you playing ATP 250, 500, masters and Slams, this video is a really good eye opener for everyone who wants to become a pro player, i think tennis is a beautiful sport but is really expensive and that's why sports like football are so popular, making a carrer as a professional or even practicing on a regular basis is so so so much cheaper, but anyway all your sacrifices will pay in a couple of years, just keep the effort.

this is a great video man, for real. So let's say it takes about 200k for 1 ATP point, I never knew my parents were spending so much money on me hahaha I'm 16 and have a UTR of 9. My goal is college tennis so 1 ATP point isnt necessary. Good luck on your journey, I'll be following you :)

Brilliant video. Gives people a realistic idea of what it costs to take their game to the next level if they are willing to invest into their tennis. Could you do more videos like this, explaining pathways to take in terms of training, group training, 1-2-1's etc they can take to get to a county, regional and national level?

Most of it comes from the social stuff to be honest , have been doing this for years so it definitely helps to get deals with sponsors
Excellent post! Great information! I am a little surprised that when itemizing your expenses, you didn’t include food. The food for an elite athlete is very expensive. Plus, with all the training, I would imagine you eat many small meals/snacks throughout the day. Again, thanks for the info! Have a great 2022!
Good point! We thought about including food - it's another factor. However we decided against that to not make it too detailed. As I normally would eat a LOT and healthy food ( if I would just be a sporty 18 year old ) we thought that we book this under general living costs...

My 6-year-old will be starting his first private lessons in the first week of August 2022. Looking forward to seeing what I end up paying throughout the year. Most of the time balls were provided by the coach so I would only use balls in personal hits which didn’t really happen that often

We were actually in the same draw once in the Boehner Cup or something in Dusseldorf, Germany. I think you even won that tournament a few years ago, I lost my first round match but still funny to think of it, cause I couldn’t be further away from making it pro and just play for fun non competitively these days and you’re hustling to get your first ATP point, which is massive. Best of luck on your journey and hope to see your name on the futures/challenger tour in a few years

I like the way you break it down. I also like your dedication to this sport. On the plus side, the money that has been spent is also paying back dividends beyond any money won. Skills like how to be independent, how to overcome nervousness, commitment to a training schedule, getting up early, practicing all day when you don't want to. All of these skills are transferable to a number of different careers beyond playing tennis. Great job sticking with it and good luck in your quest.
I wish you all the best Felix. This type of video content is truly unique and very interesting for parents who may consider putting their child through the steps towards a career in tennis. I wonder if you had any estimated stats on how many players there are in the world who would realistically aspire to make it to 1 ATP/WTA point, as I'd imagine it's quite a sombering number compared to the number of pros who actually end up making a decent living on tour.
Trust me there are thousands of players that try to achieve this. Most of my friends are on the same journey. Without total focus and determination it is nearly impossible to do this. There are only around 2250 players on the mens tour that have at least 1 point...
I started playing tennis when i was 14. So got only 1 year of U-14 . I couldnt afford to keep on playing tennis obviously because my family was not that rich but my dad did everything he could to provide me with the best gear. Spent good two years on the national circuit before i finally had to give up. Now i am working my ass off to save up atleast 500,000$ for my future son/daughter's career { if they happen to take up tennis }

Hey mate, I think the channel is such a cool idea. I’m also on the hunt for an ATP point this year too. Training costs here in Australia are free if you’re in the national academy and even a lot of our travel interstate has been subsidised by Tennis Australia. I’d say my costs for this year (when I go overseas to play futures) would be significantly cheaper. If you go to a place like Tunisia or Turkey it is cheap as. Your best bet is to just go to one of the places with a mate and rent an apartment or Airbnb for a couple months and it’ll make it so much more affordable. Like only $200usd a month for a good place if sharing with mates. Then you’ve just gotta add transport on top of that which is pretty cheap anyway. Like I was thinking $1k a month not $5k. Best of luck mate 💪
Good breakdown. What's missing are the potential rewards, which are tiny until he gets to challenger events. These open tournaments in the UK, though played at a really high level, will not earn you a single ATP point and at most $500 to the winner!

Here in California, private lessons are USD $60-$80 per hour, group lessons are $22-$30 per hour, & club fees are about $100 per month unless it’s public… then it’s about $10-$15 per hour of Court usage.
i mean those club fees and court hire fees are ridiculous, in the uk access to a club with free court booking, a gym, swimming pool, spa , padel courts, etc costs around $100 per month

I used to get coached by the former coach of Luis Horna and Jaime Izaga (both are peruvian ATP tennis players). When I asked him (my coach) how much did it really cost to form a pro tennis player, he told that in average, per year, you need to spend around 110 000 USD (that includes daily sessions of tennis training, travel costs, equipment, etc.). So, doing the math, if let's say that you want to start your pro tennis career at age 11-12, and assuming that you make it to the ATP circuit at age 17, that's around 5-6 years x 110 000 USD = 550 000 - 660 000 USD in total.
I think it's time for Euros to learn spanish and go do the pre season in Argentina xD. 1 dollar = 215 pesos.

@@seiscero that might work. In Latin America, the best tennis (both in academies, tournaments and junior competition) is in Argentina. For example, Coria, Nalbandian and Pablo Cuevas used to train in an Argentinian academy near Uruguay. Of course in Latin America all expenses are in local currency (Peruvian Soles, Argentinian Pesos), so if you have savings in euros or USD then it will be cheaper for you to train in LATAM.
However, junior argentinian players and all junior LATAM players who are competing in the juniors circuit (ITF, Futures), eventually end up traveling to North America and Europe to compete.

@@tennisbrothers I am also a national player and my shoes last about 8 months. I don´t understand how any shoes can only last 2 weeks. Is it some cheap and nasty stuff? Why don´t you show us a picture of your shoes in forthcoming videos how they look after a fortnight. It´s hard to believe how any company can make something that cheap.
@@kinapruk If you slide a lot and play multiple hours every day, your shoes shouldn't last for more than a month. I am at a lower level than Felix but I slide alot, my shoes last me about 2 months and I play about half as much as him.

It is rough out there! Played for a year and a half, went from unranked to top 400 in 6 months, lost money all the way through. I made more money playing money tournaments in the USA then on tour! Then I decided to start a RUclips channel lol! But don’t get discouraged by the costs, focus on your goal all the way. Best of luck!!

Avg travel expenses for the tour is around 50 to 75k just to travel for the player.
