Apple Configurator gives you 2 options
Restore - You can erase & reinstall macOS on your mac in under 10 minutes
Revive - This will retain user data and reinstall macOS recovery if you are having problems booting into macOS recovery.
This mode will also help you if your Mac will not boot or if it is booting to an exclamation point.
I will go over how to restore macOS on your new Apple Silicon Mac. Your first line of defense for installing macOS on Apple Silicon should be macOS Recovery. But if for some reason you are having problems with that you can boot your Apple Silicon Mac with a Big Sur USB installer drive.

OMG, you are a lifesaver! I was trying to restore my wife's computer after I "hand me down" to her. I failed to erase it proper so I have not been able to run updates as I wasn't "owner". In the process of trying to reset, I completely hosed it. This saved me a lot of time and effort, thank you!

Thank you Sir, you saved my day. My new 14" M1 MacBook was broken during upgrading to macOS Monterey version 10.3 and the solution was to revive the system with DFU mode and with the old macOS 10.2.1 ISPW file. It wasn't possible to revive the device with the new - default - version 10.3 in DFU mode (libusbrestore error 2006). No data loss and a lot of time saved.💐
Are you able to elaborate on the 2006 error? I have a bricked M1 air and I get that error on every IPSW I have tried.
it appears Apple Configurator 2 is gone, its just configurator now (no numbers), but its version 2,17 so that's probably it .. just confusing that everybody is talking about version 2 :))
anyway, you're the man .. I have tried several RUclips "how to do" videos, but always running in to error 21, which according to some was wrong USB-C cable, but after watching you, I gave it last try .. used my iPhone and stopwatch app, to count 10 seconds .. and .. what a surprised, it worked, just like a magic .. thx, really appreciate it :)

Good lord you mad lad you got my user's MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2021) back up and running. You HAVE to use an Apple Thunderbolt cable, not any USB-C cable will do. I followed Apple's directions and couldn't get it to connect properly - it kept coming up in locked mode not recovery model. I did it like you demonstrated and it worked perfectly. Thank you so much!!!

Whelp... Got it restored thanks to this video. Now let's see if my 2020 m1 will let me reboot and use my Caldigit TS3 dock. Something happened with Ventura that kept corrupting the OS, but would let me reinstall the Mac OS, even downgrade it via a usb drive install but every time, gets up to desktop. Lets me use it to my hearts content and then on reboot, get back to login screen, login and bang. boot loop.
Hopefully this gets me back up and running. Thank god I have another Mac mini m1 in the house to make this happen.

@MrMac - First off thank you for helping those of us who like to keep using our Macs for as long as possible. Question for you: I have a 2014 27” iMac (iMac 15,1) - top of line iMac at the time. Could I use it as a secondary monitor for a laptop - MacBook Pro, MacMini, or even a PC laptop, with some adapters and cables? And if so, what would be the minimum MacOS requirements for both the iMac, and the MacBook or MacMini?
You can just say 1,2,3,4,5 and so on. Why make your life harder lol. Anyhow, thank you for the tutorial. Its really helpful. Keep it up.
Found a much easier way and works everytime for me even when it is on!
1. Turn off the Mac (or leave it on)
2. Once it starts booting, hold the power/keyboard combo (right shift, left control, left option) until it shuts off
3. Count to 3
4. Release all but the power button for 7 seconds (or until it shows up in AC2)

What if the computer I trying to restore runs Big Sur and the helping Mac does not. Would I need to downgrade the helping Mac to Big Sur or is there a way to do this without those steps. Any help would be great.

Hey Mate I'll try to restore my macbook pro 14'' in a few hours but i got a question, maybe you can help me out with that.
So the working macbook is probably an older device with an older macos firmware. But If I download the newest Macbook Pro 14'' firmware update on your website and drop it into DFU, will it work? Even if the working macbook has an older firmware?

Got a 2020 MBA here. Turns on and get Apple logo, but then fan ramps up to high a few seconds later and then doesn't go any further.
Managed to do the firmware recovery using DFU mode using the instructions in this video - thanks a million man. Seemed to complete ok, but still won't boot. Internet recovery stalls at the spinning globe. Tried with WiFi and Ethernet. Left it for hours, doesn't proceed.
Also in internet recovery e.g. the network selection screen, the machine is laggy as f**k. Like a few seconds just for the mouse pointer to move after touching the touchpad. The firmware recovery screens however were not laggy and the process completed in a couple or so mins as expected.
The machine has a kaput battery. Powers off instantly when plug is pulled.
Wondering if the issue is battery related?? If so it would be the first time I've come across a laptop that ran slow (like it was powered by a 2KHz single core CPU slow!) due to a duff battery. Thanks Apple.
Is it worth replacing the battery to try and resurrect the machine? Or is the fault likely to be something else?

Hello there. Nice stuff. I have a mac mini 2018 intel and I've tried everything out there to resintall the system, but with no success. I need to restore it. I did use AC2, it seems it worked, but the mac mini restarts and get into internet recovery again and again. Is there a way to install a IPSW on it? Many thanks.

I downloaded 14.2 your universal restore ipsw and used it to DFU restore a 2023 Mini and a 2021 Studio went well but on both I can not access the App Store. They will not connect. I have done all the troubleshooting steps including safe mode and signing out and back in, still no dice.

Hey just a quick question, sorry it's unrelated to this video but I tried to update my macbook air 2017 from Mojave to Monterey and it got stuck on that disk startup page. Is there a way of completely cancelling the update to go back to Mojave without data loss?
2023 MBP M3 14". My MBP does not chime when I hold all four keys like yours does. There is no indication that the MBP powers on at all. Is there a different set of instructions for the 2023 MBP M3? (This MBP is brand new in box shipped directly from Apple and there is no video, but when I press ONLY the power button I do hear the chime and the keyboard lights, but when I hold all four keys there is NO chime and NO keyboard light.)
Any idea why I cant find Configurator 2? In the app store I'm only finding Configurator, which I assume is the first version.

Is there some way to do this with an older Mac? I have one from 2012 and one from 2021. I tried updating my 2021's OS yesterday and it got bricked (it looks like a few other people with M1 Max chips had the same problem). This is the only technique I've encountered to revive it so far, but my old Mac is too old to run Apple Configurator.
@Mr.Macintosh Same happened to me on Monday: 2021 16' M1 MBP, and upgrade from 13.5 to 13.6 bricked it: once power button is pressed, boot sound appears, Apple symbol shows briefly, than it returns to black screen. Apple enterprise support tried revive without success, and subsequently replaced mainboard and fingerprint reader today. I upgraded it from 13.0 (which was pre-installed) to 13.6 again, and started configuring it. While the first reboot following this upgrade worked, 2nd reboot of the reapaired system end up in the above error condition again. There are many similar reports on the web by now. Seems 13.6 is toxic, Apple ows us an urgent explanation! Update: A third, new MBP bricked when updating to 12.7, the same way! All three were set to 60Hz screen refresh rate.
