I was 13 years old when this premiered and I was totally blown away by the opening. The Quincy Jones music, the dancing, Lola Falana... this is probably my favorite TV show opening of all time, and I'm so glad to see it again.
Nothing will ever come close to the Six Million Dollar Man TV Show intro.....nothing. Maybe if these dancers were Fembots, or Bionic in some way, I could give it another look lol.
what the flyin' fxxk? why have i never heard/seen this? these people are legends in their own times... how did this not rerun like crazy? the suits never know what they're doing do they? is it possible to watch this anywhere now? Gr8! Peace ☮💜
I was in the sixth grade and never missed this show when it came on--I think it was after _The Doris Day Show._ This is where I discovered Foster Brooks, who, thanks to You Tube, has kept me laughing many years later.
I can't remember exactly... Been a long time... I imagine they thanked us for coming.... We walked down from our seats in the bleachers and out the door to the parking lot and zipped home... I don't remember anything out of the ordinary.....
0:03-0:30, the Now You See It opening lines are as follows: 1974-75: “Every answer to every question is right here before your eyes and... now... you... see... it... NOW YOU SEE IT!!!!!!! And the star of our show, now you see HIM, JACK NARZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!” 1989: “Hidden in this jumble of letters is (example: the name of a popular 80’s cartoon series). Can you find it? (Answer: HE-MAN) Now you see it! That’s how we play... now... you... see... it... NOW YOU SEE IT!!!!!!!!! And here’s the host of our show, CHUCK HENRY!!!!!!!!!!!!”
I remember going to see this show at CBS on Fairfax in L.A. when I was a teenager, and really enjoyed Bill Cosby's impromptu warm-up monologue that was not broadcast, the Staple Singers lip-synching to "Respect Yourself" and Quincy Jones orchestra performing live. I want to ask Mr. Schlatter if he could please post the brilliant skit of Peter Sellers and Lily Tomlin in which they are in a mock up of an airplane going down, and the two see the other's life flash in front of them. I would be great to see these two brilliant comedians working with each other in what was probably the only time.
So this came out 1 year after NBC cancelled The Original Bill Cosby Show after 2 seasons and then, 1972, he moved to CBS with The NEW Bill Cosby Show as well as teamed up with Filmation for Fat Albert & the Cosby Kids and Chump Change would later be used on Now You See It on CBS in 1974-75 with the late great Jack Narz and again in 1989 with Chuck Henry who is currently still with KNBC-TV 4 LA teaming up with Colleen Williams, Chief Meteorologist Fritz Coleman and Longtime Sports Director Fred Roggin also, 1972 was the year Norman Lear gave us Sanford & Son with the late great Redd Foxx and Demond Wilson following the success of All in the Family and Chump Change almost sounds like The Streetbeater used on S&S Those were the days where everything was awesome and no one got offended about everything
I think I finally get it now...George left Laugh-In at the end of the 1971-72 season, moved to CBS and he developed this show. I was curious why Dan and Dick's production company were only listed during Laugh-In's final season, (1972-73.) This would be nice for Decades to rerun, if Bill's reputation wasn't in tatters right now...
If the book From Beautiful Downtown Burbank is to be believed, George was ousted because of the duo and Paul Keyes' allegience to Nixon (though this would be walked back later w/ Dick's appearance in the S9 premiere of the Dean Martin show where it opened with a spoof of the Watergate hearings and Fiorello). It also contributed to Lily Tomlin's appearances being less that season (she was for George McGovern). Like to think had Keyes not returned at all after his year off from the show (he isn't listed in S4 as writer and producer), I could see it at least ending on a high note in '74 w/ Flip Wilson's show than how all of S6 played out. In the end, both this show and Laugh-In bit the dust as the ratings werent there for neither.
Re: Bill- if this were OJ, all those Naked Gun movies would be pulled from rebroadcast and his guest spot of Here's Lucy would remain not on DVD or streaming like the rest of the whole series was til the 2009. But they're not and neither are Bill's cameos on Laugh-In circa S4
So yea great. A tease. As a child, I had an old Lloyd's cassette recorder and corded microphone set up by the tv for most of the short time this show ran. I lived for his little tv-sized stand-up bits and for Foster Brooks. Groucho was on one time!!!! I barely remember a skit about grocery-store "woogety-woogety" carts that never operated. Bill and Foster were absolute Gold, and it is totally unfair I do not have access to this stuff, being a typical greedy entitled American. Far as I know, there is not one source to hear or watch The New Bill Cosby Show without paying, like, 'rights' fees or such. If bad-sludge Pink Lady and Jeff can see the light of day, this needs a pedestal.
Oh my goodness! Now this I never knew about. It premieres before I was born, but oh my goodness…nothing is new…so the whole dancer sequence reminds me of some 20 years later with In Living Color. Who knew he had Lola Falana, Quincy Jones…very interesting. It’s sad how his legacy has been tarnished, but he was still a trailblazer. ~JESUS IS LORD~XO
This show made Lola Falana a star. And Foster Brooks was a genius comedy "drunkard". Check him out on the DEAN MARTIN COMEDY ROASTS. He's the only roaster that would get laughs before he even made it up to the podium to begin his act.
At 0:07... That's what he does. He distracts you with those cute, wholesome funnyfaces... the next thing you know, you wake up all sore in a strange place wondering what the hell happened to you
It's a shame that it'll probably never be licensed because there was a lot of talent on that show, and it's really unfair for them to not be recognized because of what Cosby did. The people who want to remove a show from existence because of whose name is on it never think of the other people they're also punishing.
When will this show be released on DVD. There are still millions of Bill Cosby fans who would love to see it. What is George Schlatter Productions waiting for?
You'll have to wait until he dies just like all of these other greedy Hollywood producers who want to own your mind, body and soul. Then after that, they don't want to pay you any royalties for the work that you do. I'm not even in show business, but it's the same ole' story you hear all the time.
Anyone know why this didn't succeed? Though I read it was because of being up against Monday Night Football, perhaps there's more than that considering other network shows have survived it and football season is only fall through winter.
Oscar dugruy is one of the dancers and the truly well known lockers with founder don Campbell and Fred rerun berry,du gruy later play maddog on a two part good times episode, j.j and the gang.
Wow . Mr Cosby was making moves in the entertainment industry. Go ahead Ms. Lola. I'm glad I'm not a dancer it would be difficult to stop dancing to secular music. That old leaven has to go. Salt and peppa SWV my generation need to let go of that secular lifestyle. 💕 Them but I have to go Jesus is calling his servants to repent.
I was 13 years old when this premiered and I was totally blown away by the opening. The Quincy Jones music, the dancing, Lola Falana... this is probably my favorite TV show opening of all time, and I'm so glad to see it again.
Wow. Did yall really use to dance like that for real?
Nothing will ever come close to the Six Million Dollar Man TV Show intro.....nothing. Maybe if these dancers were Fembots, or Bionic in some way, I could give it another look lol.
First time seeing this in 2023, though I was around in 1972. Lola Falana is still with us at 80, but I don't see her anymore.
The famous "Lola Falana Kick!" Awesome! :)
Theme: "CHUMP CHANGE" (written by Quincy Jones; later used as the theme for the game show NOW YOU SEE IT).
Towards the end it's kinda reminiscent of the theme from The Cosby Show. Didn't Quincy Jones write that one too?
@@Lotmeister Quincy did the original 1969 The Bill Cosby Show but Stu Gardner did The Cosby Show from 1984.
Jack Narz was originally slated to be one of the dancers on this show but he just couldn't keep up with the others during the rehearsals.
I think this was on Monday nights at 9 or 10 pm. Really enjoyed it as a kid. Lola was pretty much the co-star with big song/dance numbers every show.
looks like "In Living Color" before "In Living Color" and "Solid Gold" before "Solid Gold" to me.
Black people dancing looks like that? Hahah.
OMG this show opening.... wow... so much talent in that studio.... and everybody SO YOUNG..... wow...
what the flyin' fxxk? why have i never heard/seen this? these people are legends in their own times... how did this not rerun like crazy? the suits never know what they're doing do they? is it possible to watch this anywhere now? Gr8! Peace ☮💜
Great show clips. These show episodes need to be on DVD.Blu Ray if they are not already.
His theme song, Chump Change by Quincy Jones, was also used in the game show Now You See It.
It was also used (and still is used) by the dutch sports radio show "Langs de lijn".
THAT'S IT!!! It's been gnawing at the back of my mind for decades! I couldn't remember what game show it was!!! THANKS!!!
Now You See It with the late great Jack Narz and Chuck Henry both versions aired on CBS Daytime
J C Yeah,I noticed it right away! No mistaking that theme!
Wow, Quincy did a LOT of stuff.
OMG! This was the year that I was born.
Every answer....to every question..
This theme was also used on the CBS game show “Now You See It” hosted by Jack Narz.
And the short lived 1989 revival.
I was in the sixth grade and never missed this show when it came on--I think it was after _The Doris Day Show._ This is where I discovered Foster Brooks, who, thanks to You Tube, has kept me laughing many years later.
I was about the same age too. Foster Brooks was so funny. I swore I could smell the alcohol on his breath.🍸
I was at this show. Use to go all the time. It was kind of fun.
mslizzyborden Did you get tickets to see a taping
Hi Markas... Yep, can't remember where, but we came by them easily I guess seeing as we were at CBS every other week for something or another.
What happened after the show
I can't remember exactly... Been a long time... I imagine they thanked us for coming.... We walked down from our seats in the bleachers and out the door to the parking lot and zipped home... I don't remember anything out of the ordinary.....
That's was great
There are multiple LPs out done by Quincy & Cosby together with badfoot brown and the bunions super duper funky underrated !!!
Oscar DeGruy, that's Mad Dog from Good Times that shot J.J.!!!
Mad Dog No Good is Out Gotta Goooooo
Incredible
fantastic!
Now you see him..... Bill Cosby!
from which air date from 1972?
sept 12
0:03-0:30, the Now You See It opening lines are as follows:

Lola Falana just turned 75 on September 11.
U can look at this dance routine and see how it still affects todays vest dancers like Usher, ect
Usher has no clue. I seriously doubt he's even seen this.

Hide your Coca-Cola and Jell-O Pudding Pops, it's Bill!
Mondays at 10pm(et) during the 1972-'73 season.
A killer time slot opposite ABC's NFL Monday Night Football!
@@jakeemreynolds5095 Yeah but that was only half the season so I wonder if there was more to it not succeeding?
I remember the famous hi kick

Dang, this looks like a good variety show. No hate for the licensing company, but I wish I could watch it without... you know, wondering.
It was a GREAT show, funny with good, clean entertainment. I wonder if he was a pervert at that time.
@@1computernew What reality do you live in?

WTF all the shows we see nowadays are The Doctors, Dr. Ozz and political crap shows.
I agree, I wish we went back through a time where everyone got along without gettin' offended about everything
