Yeah, they definitely don't look like anything spectacular until they break in a bit, and they get the look kinda like a sneaker, but way more comfortable.
Great video. You did it! That's a thoughtful approach to leather maintenance. And the boots look good. Recently I tried on some Red Wing Weekender (?) Chelseas. But they didn't grab me.
Yeah, the weekenders really are kinda a flop in my personal opinion. All they needed was cork and a leather insole, and they'd be just as nice as the classic Chelsea, but some people do really like them, and that's cool. Different strokes for different folks! As they say. Anyway, I appreciate your comments.
Purchased a pair of redwing weekender chelsea boots. While I do like the boots, they are WAY overpriced for what they are. Simple stitch out construction with mediocre materials. The main leather of the boot is okay, but otherwise pretty basic stuff. When I bought them I had just ordered them in and hadnt payed attention to the construction. At $250….crazy high. Again, I do like the boots, but $150ish…would much more in line
@@jay-rus4437 yeah, the weekenders missed the mark all together in my opinion. I'm sorry you're not happy with them. It's definitely not my choice of Chelsea boots, nor would I advise that boot. If they where in the 100-150 range like you said, I'd be more inclined to say they're worth it. If you ain't worn them out, or done anything to void the return policy, I'd take them in, and just jump up to a moc toe or something if you can't get into the classic Chelsea due to supplies. They got another version of the moc toe with the storm welt, like the 1907, the leather is called concrete rough and tough. Probably the coolest option they have out right now in my opinion. The nice thing with those is the extra value you get with the extra foot bed insert, and laces. You want to size those ones, and the 1907, with the extra foot bed out, then add the foot bed back in after a month or so when they are getting broken in, and they will probably be your favorite Redwing boots ever.
Cool video man, the boots disappointed me though, i had such high hopes for them then they released them with some foam in the insole, which in don’t like. Glad you enjoy them though.
Don't know where you heard that. It's a veg tan insole on cork according to the website. there's a sweat wicking mesh lining half way up the vamp to the toe box, but nothing on the materials list or website says they used foam. Do you have a source to verify this claim?
Just got off the phone with Redwing and they said there's no foam is in these or any heritage line boots/shoes. It is Cork under the leather insole as disclosed on the website. Now if you know anyone who has a pair that they want cut in half we can really test that, but I'm a few years out from that on these ones.
@@ThomasSteed that’s crazy I’m gonna have to figure that out haha. Idk about that rep you talked to though because the weekender line of heritage boots do use full foam insoles. I have no idea man haha.
Looks like she misspoke. Probably totally forgot about the weekenders, they really are the lame duck of the heritage line, aside from the postman I think is the name of that retirement home grandpa looking shoe. Anyway, you are correct the weekenders have a non leather insole, but it's their nicer orthopedic, not the standard flat foam one in the cheaper work boots, but that would explain the price difference between the classic and weekenders.
@@ThomasSteed a full replacement of the boot will be hard because there is almost 0 available in the US. Free stitching repairs for the lifetime of any Red Wing branded footwear though.
@@sethl.9455 Yeah, I don't want to replace them. I intend on having them resoled, and potentially having my cobbler replace the elastics With leather gussets after they completely wear out, and adding a strap or something.

Great video. Never much cared for the wedge sole till I tried a pair.

@@ThomasSteed yeah the salesman told me it was a poron insole with a layer of leather over it. It also says on the site “cushioned footbed”

the loose elastic could be covered under warranty
Thanks for the heads up. I'll check that out.
