    The Chelsea is a very popular work boot style in Australia. Particularly on construction sites. The ease of putting it on/taking it off is particularly appealing.

    I'm going against the grain by saying I enjoyed these boots. I have them in the muleskinner leather and no complaints. Granted, they aren't dressy boots and aren't winning in the looks category, but the sheer comfort and durability is a green light for me.

    I bought a pair of factory 2nd’s of the Ebony Chelsea’s. Just like you said, it’s a work boot, not meant to dress up in. Of all my boots these are the most comfortable. I can walk for hours in these boots.

    Really hate the clickbait title / thumbnail, but your review was decent, agree with the premise that it's not quite an icon like the other heritage boots. But a bomb proof high quality chunkier Chelsea is great. I've always avoided Blundstones because I don't trust the quality, and the ebony harness leather looks really nice.

  • @wastelandranger6021
    @wastelandranger6021 3 года назад +8

    I disagree with you here. I prefer bulkier chelseas, and this is an obvious answer to Blundstones since they are so extremely popular. I think this will sell alot.

    I think that there are those who want a work style boot similar to a blunder stone or redback boot and those who want a dressier Chelsea style boot with a sleeker narrow toe box. Redback was more going for that first market, the work wear rather than fashion wear.

    The edges of the leather (the perimeter of each leather piece in the boot) are skived thinner to get a consistent stitch appearance, so if you measure the thickness of the leather at the edge, it will be thinner than what the leather actually is.

    • @BootSpy
      @BootSpy  3 года назад

      Excellent point! Do you know of any ways to measure the true thickness of the leather? Most bootmakers don't advertise that, but it's something I'd love to compare from brand to brand

    Good review, Totally agree with your overall assessment.
    If you’re going to have a Chelsea I think the best look is a slimmer profile, like an RM Williams, superb quality.
    On saying that I do own a pair of Blundstones myself. I got them to walk in the woods and wet fields while I’m walking my dog, I didn’t want to ruin my Iron Rangers for everyday muddy walks.
    They are obviously half the price and are super comfortable though, and do for just knocking around.
    If I wanted a similar boot, but better quality that’s where this Red Wing Chelsea would fit in.I guess what I’m trying to say is this style of Chelsea is a lot more casual than the likes of RM Williams.
    I enjoy your reviews keep up the good work

    • @omar8634
      @omar8634 3 года назад +2

      If you want chelseas built for the tough, nowadays you get Redbacks. Have had mine for a year and a half now, my favourite thing to wear out and about. That said RM Williams is the quintessential slick Chelsea. Dang, Aussies do know how to make em!!

    • @Rigz727
      @Rigz727 3 года назад

      @@omar8634 Obviously when it comes to looks, that’s a subjective thing, but as far as quality, RM’s are another level up to Redbacks in terms of construction,so you can’t compare the two. A more apt comparison would be Redbacks to Blunstones.
      For the price point though and to do a job, Redbacks are tough to beat!

    • @richyclubsport5155

      @@richyclubsport5155 I had heard that, and looking at Rose Anvils assessment a guess you’d have to agree the quality seems to of gone down. As far as Ian Harrold boots they seem superb quality and probably as good as RMs, but the boots are not made in Australia now. Which is a shame but they are super quality.

  • @markopolo9936
    @markopolo9936 3 года назад +1

    New subscriber here 👋 I have heard that the footbed is no longer leather in these, they have a poron foam footbed with a texon fibreboard lasting board. Not the same as other red wing models.

    • @joeshmoe9233
      @joeshmoe9233 3 года назад

      I was going to say the same thing. All their Chelsea boots have the layered insole. The Texon and Poron are covered with a thin layer of chrome tanned leather maybe he was fooled by the top layer. Bottom line is, the thin chrome tan layer will not have nearly the durability of the near 1/4 inch thick veg tan insoles of the rest of the Heritage line, and the Poron foam will collapse and turn to powder and the Texon will crumble. These boots are garbage by the normal Heritage standard and DO NOT even fit the basic standards of what a heritage boot actually is. Redwing should be ashamed of themselves.
