▶ SPEEDRUNNER VS. HUNTERS RULES
• The speedrunner wins by defeating the Hollow Knight. The hunters win if the speedrunner dies.
• Hunters start with 5 masks, Kingsoul, Tram Pass, King's Brand, Awoken Dream Nail, Lumafly Lantern.
• Hunters gain Mothwing Cloak, Mantis Claw, Isma's Tear, and Monarch Wings when the speedrunner does.
• The speedrunner cannot hear the hunter's voice chat.
• Hunters start 30 seconds after the speedrunner.
▶ SPEEDRUNNER VS. HUNTERS MODS
TheHuntIsOn by Korz
• ALL players do not receive healing from sitting on benches.
• ALL players do not receive healing from entering dream boss arenas.
• ALL players cannot use stags.
• ALL players do not spawn shades, or receive penalties from dying.
• ALL players have small elevators removed from their world. There should be platforms to replace them, but it was bugged in this version.
• ALL players can instantly travel through large elevator shafts.
• SPEEDRUNNERS will have platforms to enable them to navigate shade skip spots IF they have the loadout required to perform that shade skip.
• HUNTERS will have platforms to enable them to navigate shade skips spots no matter what their loadout is.
• HUNTERS cannot collect lifeblood seeds from the world.
• HUNTERS start with the game world unlocked (i.e. shortcuts open, most bosses killed, etc).
• HUNTERS respawn in King's Pass when they die.
• HUNTERS heal slower, and their focus cost is higher.

Yeah! The only thing that would make it better would be if the runner told the hunters whenever they collect any ability, so the runners spend less time blindly running around looking for them. It's still fair because the hunters would have trouble getting to the runner's location before the runner leaves

I like the honor rule for loading zone shenanigans too, though also funny seeing fire accidentally losing hunters that way

Not stuff like dreamnail, tram pass, shade soul, etc.
I think it'd be much better if he started telling them each time he got an ability or ability upgrade, to make up for the fact that the hunters don't have lifelines anymore and can't fast travel, making it crazy hard to find him. Revealing when he gets an ability tells them where on the map he is, giving them an idea of where he may be going next, but it isn't too good for the hunters bc it will take them time to get over there and he'll be gone by the time they arrive.
It just seemed like the hunters deserved a bit more info.
@@azeTrom17but then theres nothing the ginger can do to try and be sneaky about things at least not for long periods. One of my favourite manhunts is the one where the hunters were all guarding a dreamer he had already gotten and he just typed done and they assumed he had one to two dreamers remaining still
I really like the healing restriction. I think benches were a little overpowered in past iterations. More resourcefullness is required now that benches don't heal everything.

Yeah, this is great, but the lack of time limit, while on its own great, makes it possible to just infinitely stall and get all the upgrades in the game. I feel like hunters should be able to fight bosses for some of the charms, that way they have another goal while waiting for the speedrunner to show themselves (so they are not so bored), while also providing much more natural "time limit" in the sense, that if speedrunner takes their time, the hunters are gonna grow stronger
@@matissimoj1190 I like this idea! It'd have to be limited in some way, but the hunters having more "freedom" is a great concept
@@matissimoj1190 another fun iteration of this would be hunters _also_ starting on new save files, and they can grow on the same time as the hunter. sure, the speedrunner could stall for upgrades, but if they let the hunter get too strong as well, it'll, as you say, act as a more natural time limit, as dealing with players having equipment just as strong as you is bound to make completing a boss or two impossible
EDIT: making the Hunters have maxed out nail would be ideal though, as to actually give them an edge, make them have more of an edge against the speedrunner and make it all fair
@@Brainth1780 yeah, I believe that some charms should be banned for hunters, like for example the spore shroom. If they all got the spore shroom, they would just heal in the hollow knight fight, killing the speedrunner.
Watching this, I realized that, as far as I can recall, I've never actually seen Gruz Mother being fought _after_ triggering Infected Crossroads.
Imagine if the game accounted for that, and turned her into a tougher, infected version like all the regular enemies 👀

@@Blaze-xe8cl I agree, I had a lot of trouble beating her on radiant, mostly because of the spikes. Not even close to Pure Vessel or NKG, but still around the level of some dream warriors I'd say
maybe if the infection turned some of the floor into infection spikes like the ascended arena
@@Blaze-xe8clsame, they problaby intended to make it equally difficult to other bosses, but adding platforms in the gruz mother fight and literaly *adding a second vengefly king* , made those bosses really difficult
That tram pass was the play, that really threw them off when you needed it.
I absolutely LOVE this, it feels much more fun and more like what a manhunt should be.

I like this version a lot. No time limit but with steel soul means being able to do a lot more different things for your loadout that you wouldn't otherwise go for because of the time limit.
Means speedrunner can punish all of the hunters just camping one dreamer/thk too. unfortunately it means late game speedrunner can just farm upgrades (fireborn couldve just gone for 112% while the hunters struggle to do anything about it) so i think itd be really interesting if hunters were more easily able to track speedrunner down esp. in the late game
love to see the speed runner vs hunters come back!! just wanted you to be aware that better help has pretty much no certification requirements to be a therapist with them. many people have come out about unhelpful, counterproductive, and traumatic experiences with them. i really don’t wanna come of like i’m criticizing or anything just wanted to spread awareness cuz a lot of people don’t know.

That was such a fun run! I really like this twist on things, I always felt like the timer made the end game very similar every time. With no timer you get to be a lot more creative, but the stakes are higher because of steel soul.
yeah this way it ends with the first HK fight no matter what and the leadup to it isn't a bunch of other HK fights
This series just keeps getting better. The stag ban makes the game MUCH more balanced for both parties. I would like to see you try a hybrid without SS and with a timer, just to see what it is like (mby not for upload). Keep it up!
I liked the changes, and having no time limit allows you to be more creative with your choices. However, I feel like after getting claw you have so many options of where to go and since the hunters don't know where you are, you could be getting extermely powerful upgrades while they are forces to guard the dreamers. I think that re-adding life lines is a good idea, maybe instead of doing it one per hunter you can have it so they can use it once every 15 minutes so they don't run out. Also, this might be a bit out there but I think it could be an interesting idea to allow hunters to get certain upgrades in order to give them more things to do than aimlessly search for you or wait for you at a ceration point. This will also ensure that you can't get to powerful that the hunters have no chance in defeating you
Would be cool if hunters were able to place traps. Just to notify them if runner gets through. Because every run Fire jukes hunters in early game and then its gg :) Might also be interesting to see true ending version. Not sure how much harder for Fire it will be tho.

I love how he when he accidentally jukes them he reveals his position, absolute gigachad move.
Best way to handle it with steelsoul, it even feels like you could become invisible to them if you route in a certain way, and I love that concept in a manhunt, especially with balancing it with healing and transport restrictions
i love this new ruleset the only problem i feel like is that the hunters get no info and its really hard to stop objectives from happening
Yeah I feel like the hunters should get a notif if he beats a boss. That way they know his last known location.
@@nekotorin I wonder if it would be possible to make a mod that automatically notifies the hunters of certain things, but on a 60-second delay. Like you pick up Dream Nail, and the hunters get told about it 1 minute later. That way the runner doesn't have to manually stop and tell them + they have a grace period to get away from the location, but you could increase the number of things the hunters are told.
Seeing you get Monarch Wings really makes me want to see a true ending speedrun vs hunters
radiance with hunters would be awful but it would be interesting to see more of the map be explored than just the rooms necessary to beat the game and it would open up options later on more
These new rules were so refreshing! It felt very close a lot of times, and the single life makes those tense moments even tenser!

This is so boring
I really like the change to the rules. One of my favorite manhunts! I will say I still like a timer, probably a pretty long generous one, just to make sure the runner can’t just outscale. I feel like there was a point in the mid game where fire could’ve just gone for many notches and a better setup. In the lategame the runner outscales in an unfun way with no timer, and as the runner it might suck to choose between the winning play and the fun play.
As a follow up, I actually kind of like the minecraft manhunt style where hunters can either 1)gear up or 2)go after the runner. So maybe no timer, but nerf the hunters early game but let them gear up as well? Also means they have to get dash, claw, wings, etc. but they have to choose between rushing those or hunting the runner. Might want less hunters to balance this a bit more.
Maybe a timer could start after so many upgrades? Like, if you only get things that are strictly necessary for a run (claw, dreamers, that kind of thing), you get no timer, but after so many 'extra' upgrades (up to a certain amount first. Just getting wings or an extra mask only shouldn't punish u), a timer starts?
@@Raina111111you could use the percentage system to track this, making it more costly to get stuff like charms so you have to “ration” your %
I really liked not having a timer. I do wonder if replacing the timer with hunters getting upgrades after X amount of time has passed makes sense. So the longer it takes, the more powerful they get too. Loved getting to watch this!

I'd love to see you use more relics and nail arts here, and it was really just awesome seeing you switch things up to THIS degree. The HP total you had was INSANE fire

I really like this format! It feels much more faithful to what "speedrunner vs hunters" should be. I especially enjoyed the feeling of being a "final boss" where you become stronger than them and can finally 1v4 to win the final fight! It certainly needs some balancing, but it has so much potential!

Loved how you keep tweaking the ruleset to try out interesting things! One thing I haven't seen suggested, would it be reasonable to move the hunter respawn to Dirtmouth now that hunters don't have fast travel? Might be OP for HK, but it seems that hunter respawns are now incredibly punishing. (Note: this would have to take effect after the hunters make it to Dirtmouth for the first time)
these videos with speedrunner subtitles are so fantastic because im always curious what youre up to and usually not really sure unless you write it up like that. i know it takes a lot of work but its just great to watchd

Ooo this might be my favorite iteration of speedrunner vs. hunters yet! No timer means that the hunters have to be more aggressive with their plays, but the lack of fast travel means that they really have to make those plays count! It makes it so their goal isn’t just to slow you down until the timer runs out, but to actually kill your before you kill them, because a death for the hunter is SO detrimental. Plus, having the hunted play on steel soul automatically adds a lot of stakes and tension.

Great video as always. This gives me an idea of some sort of battle royale, a race where everyone tries to get true ending while messing with each other, and the winner is whoever beats radiance first.

I never thought this series could evolve so much, this feels so fresh and new, and forced to be more resourceful
I really liked this ruleset, I liked seeing how you played around it, along with the different route thsn usual.
The usage of spore shroom ask a sort of “trap” to set so the hunters couldn’t directly attack you right after healing was something I didn’t think of before
early tram was absolutely insane, I didn't even realize that was a path you could take to get to city, and clearly the hunters did not expect it either. Out of Curiosity, what were the reactions of the hunters once they watched your pov and realized you got tram?
My first playthrough that was the only way I could figure out how to get into city lol, it's so cool how they have so many ways to get almost everywhere
i've just watched every speedrunner vs hunter and i honestly think this is my favourite version of the rulesets, it's v fun to watch :D

I think a good balancing act with no fast travel is to have like 3-4 set spawn locations across the map that the hunters can choose to respawn in instead of just King's Pass, like a random bench in each quadrant of the map
Lost how this challenge is basically just, "Hey you know all those handicaps in place to make it this fair for the speedrunner against 4 other people?"

Really think you should do something like a boss target speedrun before going after HK. Would get some nice variety in strategy if you had to reach bosses like Hive Knight and Fluke.
Fire's voice is so gentle and relaxing, I just put on the multiplayer playlist to play in the background while doing my college work and it is bliss xD

Also Fire‘s route is so radically different from all other Speedrunner vs Hunters and I love it so much. You really can’t anticipate his next move. This is so much more tense

This was definitely one of my favorite man hunts so far. What's nice about this format is you are able to try a variety of routes allowing for much more strategy on both sides. It slso means you can up the power of hunters with less repercussions when trying to find the right balance since you don't have the time restrictions barring you from good builds. I'd say spore shroom is a little good in general, but I don't think it's too good. Can't wait to see what route you have next.

The new rules are great. It really showcased how vast Hallownest is and how many routes you could take to get places.
The fact that while Fire was at Herrah all hunters pretty much understood that he might be there but decided "Nah, fuck the Deepnest" and just sat at watchers anyway is hilarious

I like this version immensely more than the old ruleset (which is saying something because I love those vids too). I agree with most of the other comments here: no stags makes the maneuvering and pathing so much more fun to watch, the steel soul rule makes the fights seem more tense and makes getting a good build more important, the lack of time limit allows for more creative and roundabout strategies, and it seemed like the hunters were playing more cautiously as well because of how much of a setback the respawn distance is.
I think upgrading the hunter's nails is definitely a good idea for next time though, I imagine those enemies were getting very annoying.

This was fun!! I think the decisions made for rebalancing were absolutely correct, a new hint system does seem like a smart idea though. It's good that you CAN lose them, but it's less great that they spend such large swaths of time staying lost. It was very funny to hear them theorizing "he's probably at xyz spot" while you were standing in xyz spot, though XD
I LOVE when you do these videos. They are the best kind of content to watch you do! That said, if you had the time, which there was no issue. Why not power up with more nail upgrades, you were close to Pale Ore a few times, or even nail strikes. Knowing they would not abandon the Black egg, you could have geared up alot to make it harder for them

This new format is golden, the time limit never was a thing I liked for it restrict a lot on what you could do before having to rush to HK. Cutting the benches also made things more nail biting.

An interesting idea i had (i have 0 idea on if this can even be implemented) is the runner can freely use stags, BUT any stag useage is announed to the hunters then the hunters can use that stag as much as they want, but only that stag, and the next time a runner uses a different stag now that stag is the one hunters can use. example is runner uses greenpath stag back to crossroads, now the hunters know that and can freely use any stag to get to crossroads stag at any time but only TO crossroads, until the runner uses another stag to get to kings station, now the hunters lose corssroads stag but gain kings station.
I love hunters vs speedrunner in every game but in hollow knight man... THATS EVEN BETTER🎉
