    Since i discovered coincidently Ajahn Brahm, my life changed crucially. i used to try for it with philosophy and psychoanalysis... but there was always something missing. i felt like i found that in buddhism. Ajahn Brahm's dharma talk came with me in this journey.
    how much i am grateful for it beyond all words i could describe.

      +Clair. A. Park I came across his first video accidentally from Eckhart Tolle's videos. They are both very necessary for a complete Truth (and to fill in the missing parts perfectly ). They provide such peace and stillness, I never believed could exist on this planet full of so much pain and suffering...After these talks, we just don't have the excuse anymore... but that is such a relief and the best part is - once we realize the real truth, there isn't even anything to forgive for, to ourselves or others. I Love that part the most, it was such a heavy burden before . .. :)

      Luna L You need to watch an old guy whose name is Sadhguru Vasudev. 90% of that he says is pure wisdom, and 10 % comedy and entertainment. That is a very good balance.

    At last we have a positive way of looking at life in the modern western world. I still predict loads of depression for the west as old age approaches. While on Asia and Africa age is admired with respect, in the west it is a bad thing to be called old. While the thought never arose in my mind that I was young when I was young, nowadays young people are aware that they are young and carry it in their minds. God alone knows how they will hate themselves at old age. Letting go now is the key.

    • @kimberlyhuffman2167
      @kimberlyhuffman2167 8 лет назад

      I agree with everything you said..except...the except last..I have given though to this myself and feel empathy for elderly who I have seen are used to make money for people not their family caring for them, and not respected, and so strongly disagree with so many of my own cultures beliefs..I agree except....those young people just " might" mature and learn a better way? Isn't that possible always stay positive??

    • @always-stay-positive5187
      @always-stay-positive5187 8 лет назад +1

      kimberly huffman I agree with you, but habits die hard, when it comes to the young people of the west. Moreover, the society and the media is making "being old" a disgusting thing. At work I talked abut how an uncle helped me, then later I said that my uncle is now very old. They interpreted it that I was insulting him and advised my not to say such a thing about my uncle. Then they asked me his age, I said 92, then they said "but he has a young spirit", when they do not even know me, let alone my uncle. In my culture, we do not even call our friend's mother by their name like "Susan". We call them mum. That is the pride that age has in my culture. The west is rich and more developed, and more intelligent, but these things have come with a price. Why should I be young all my life, and be in love all my life, and have sex till 100 years? This is asking too much. In Africa and Asia environment is harsh, so it is flight or fight. People do not have that luxury of holding hands and kissing on the streets. Husband and wife have sex quickly and then worry about other things. Yet, they are happy.

    Your name is very interesting... In Cambodia, Ajahn Brahm (អាចារ្យ ប្រាំ) mean five spiritual teachers ... Finding the calm in the storm is only just the beginning, the most important is discernment of cause of storm creation and of extinction cause of existing storms via insight.. The ultimately is knowing the law of "cause of mind creation and the extinction of existing mind" without belief, but through clear insight in which the door of Nirvana is opened for us, freedom and joyful. Note: mind is composed of feeling, perception, mental formation and consciousness..

    • @dandylion3452
      @dandylion3452 5 лет назад +2

      Recognising feelings as feelings, that they are not permanent, but just a process. The mindfulness of these emotions makes these negative feelings subside. The point is letting go, not rejecting/pushing away the negative feelings. Having metta(loving kindness and generosity) for your negative feelings. :)

    • @goofyboy8419
      @goofyboy8419 4 года назад

      Being aware of your sensations. Whatever sensation the negative thought generate just be aware of it without any judgement, it will eventually pass. It will be difficult at the beginning but once you start doing it and become comfortable with it you will be able to 'let go very quickly' whenever you are stressed.

    gem in last minute: "care for this moment. not trying to get rid of things. sit still while the world is changing around you. why? because you dont fight. you care. and then the world changes. thats the way you find peace even in the turmoil of life. the world around you is turmoil but you are in the center of stillness." to clarify: when he said the world is changing around you and then said with your stillness the world changes i think he meant it changes to more stillness with you.

    Strange, l don't think Jon Kabat Zin identifies as Buddhist does he? Also I don't think Alan Wallace is an icon of the mindfulness movement. He seems to agree with the idea that the mindfulness movement is inadequate but I don't think he feels guilt about it since he teaches shamatha strongly linked to ethics and wisdom.

      Hi Charles. I don't know Dr Kabat-Zinn personally but on the NPR program "Fresh Air" he told Terry Gross that MBSR was specifically designed to take Buddhist meditation and strip away any religious or cultural aspects away so that people would not be afraid of trying it.

      Hiso, the answer to your first question appears to be Ajahn Sujato -- Dhammanet is his website and the same opening appears on all talks.
      Ajahn Sujato is a former professional musician from Australia.
      The answer to your point about him not being an AB fan -- there has been no other monk who has so publicly, pointedly and relentlessly defended AB in the years since AB has been ostracized and attacked for participating in the ordinations of nuns than Ajahn Sujato.
      So I was amused by your comment! Take care!

    Please dont get the following wrong ..I kinda do enjoy Ajahn Brahm, but as I listen I a keep thinking what makes him so special amongs the many many Monks. Is it his evident willingness to sit infront of a camera or jet set around the world ability to talk and talk and talk and use storytelling in a way a teacher engages children in a kindergarten?
    Ajahn Brahm: .." I fly here I fly there, I have to give a talk here, I have to give a talk there ..I lead a very busy life ...people always taking photos of me ...please use me as a doormat".
    Is that the ego or sense of self importance speaking or a humble monk?
    PLEASE just think about that for a moment ...compare and listen to other respected (not as well known maybe) Monks ...search within through your own meditation ...
    Life of SOME monks seems quite pleasurable and akin to a popstars fame. Welcomed by worshipping followers who question nothing.
    How is the money generated to fund a poor moneyless monks worldwide travel?
    There's many many many Monks around the world ...who decides which amongst them should travel so extensively and whose words are to be taken as gospel.
    Buddhism may well be a lovely and worthwhile path ..but come on people question things ...Ajahn Brahm as lovely and as funny and as charing and knowleageable as he is ...he is just a man. And I doubt he has all the right answers.

      Karl BHX funds come from donations. He is invited and sponsored for these visits and flights. I think only senior monks go around internationally to teach extensively. He doesn’t speak with ego. I can perceive he was just using his life as examples. He enjoys serving. I don’t think he leads a celebrity lifestyle. They still keep all the rules which aren’t easy at all while surrounded by material temptations. Only senior monks are qualified to do this tough job, in my opinion.

      Samuel, you seem to be making a point but it's not clear to me what it is.
      Certainly there were concentration practices in India before the Buddha. These practices don't seem to have anything to do with what we know call "meditation."
      The Buddha outlined an 8-fold path which can lead to peace, and "meditation" is one of those parts. "Buddhism" is a LOT more than meditation, as Ajahn will explain if you are interested. Cheers.

      Not that I see, he's speaking in reference to himself and his own experiences. If he has any ego, it probably is very tiny tiny tiny compared to the rest of the lay culture. That's his practice though; to let go of one's self. If he speaks of himself in regards to his own experiences, as opposed to speaking FOR himself (or the propagation of self), then that is blameless (if he speaks from truth). I would also add that only after a long period does one know another, not a short period. By his own admission he doesn't enjoy being famous.

    he said "when everyone thinks the same no one thinks at all" but monks have to follow all these rules and do the same thing over and over and over. also how is brahm so fat on only one meal a day? eaten only between 11-12? and why permit snack on cheese and chocolate? seems solid and also unhealthy. why not an apple?
