I use the size 1 and 1/0 Mustad hooks to freeline for snook ruclips.net/user/postUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 and they have been fantastic. The points are super sharp, and the hook is small enough to blend with my baitfish, yet large enough to land fish 30" or more. I also use these hooks when I'm pier or surf fishing with my kids. They tend to catch tons of smaller snapper, whiting, and catfish, and we get far fewer gut hooks with these Mustad in-lines, which means more of them survive after release. I was actually using these hooks when I caught my friend too, but I think that had more to do with the bait I was using ;-)

Its not better. This is the worst way to rig one i have ever seen. You can skip the gill and just put the hook in the back. Use a circle hook if you thing theres too much hook…. Think of it like putting fish on a stringer. You put something through the gills, fish is dead. Dead bait isnt good at catching fish

Brother thanks to your vid, I caught some really nice Mangrove snappers in Key Biscayne, FL. I tried throwing live pilchards in many different ways and they would look at the bait and not bite at all. Tried it this way and immediately hooked up. Those mangrove snappers are hella smart!

Just learned a new style of hooking live bait. Thank you, I usually just hook behind the back fin and I lose a lot of bait to that so might try this out.

Thank you for this. I'm going to try this method next time I use minnows. Usually I just open their mouth and hook them through the nose but this seems better for the hook up. God bless you sir.

Right I couldn't help but feel like it's just skewering this toddler fish on to this hook. Is thier something wrong with me? It doesn't seem as bad when they're adults. Idk. I do eat fish, I don't eat cow though or pig or chicken.

Make sure to check the point of the hook for scales (after putting the hook through any fish with scales) and remove them as they can result in missed hookups.
