A sequel to the first, and now it’s fixed (as much as it could be.) it sounds… well, like a cymbal. I added some hammering too because why not, and that’s that.
This is the repair, I’m just lazy and didn’t fully sand down the giant bite taken out of it, it shouldnt re-crack though, it’s smoothed enough for the time being at least.
It actually cracked originally because it was on the “right side” (the big holes came first.) Also it belonged to a middle school band program, so that would explain the cracking lol. I’m playing it like a swish cymbal, it’s perfectly fine to hit it flange up, as long as you’re careful like I am.
China cymbals can be hung both ways, in the jazz scene especially they use them round side up. Doesnt help with hard hitting though so you schould def change your playing intensity when doing that.
@eggyvonn you got me there lol! I don’t throw drumsticks at cymbals unless they’re broken like this one. I take really good care of my cymbals, even this one when bringing it to recording sessions or gigs.
If you watch the first video, you’ll see the broken cymbal in it’s original form. It was 50+ years old, and it was in a band room, two ingredients that don’t mix well. Over the course of four years, it got utterly abused until it was unusable. It was already too far gone, so I decided to try to cut out the cracks for fun and it somehow kind of worked.
I thought this was The Drum Thing by the thumbnail
Man, I wish I had all those cymbals!
You can't buy that kinda complexity m8!
Cole after all we have been through together that is one of the funniest things we talk about to me
its actually kinda a nice swish for jazz 💀
It is surprisingly nice, the holes make it quieter, so it hangs out with my light jazz trio type cymbals.
cant wait to see you repair it

Not only is it hung on the wrong side, but you also hit it the wrong way, no wonder it cracked

@@colenoah "careful like I am" *throws the stick at it*

@ Half of my cymbals are from the 50s-70s, and in my entire history of drumming, not a single stick, head, or cymbal has broken.
What did you do to it???

@ Is that a Too Far Gone reference??? I think it is.
@FatherBunting I’m afraid not lol, just a coincidence.
