Dream Field - Solo Vibraphone and White Noise
This is a composition I wrote myself for an audition, and I'm quite proud of it. I wrote this tune when I was having recurring dreams about fireworks and arouras, the changing keys are supposed to impose that dreamy feeling. The recording and mastering was done by Noah Huber. If you enjoyed this and would like to play it yourself, leave a comment or send me an email at colenoahmusic@gmail.com

How to Make Cymbal (Satire, 2023)

This is a video I made a while back. If you enjoyed it, I have another called “waffle cymbal”, thanks for watching.
This might be the best cymbal I’ve ever played.

This is a good cymbal. It’s a “Cymbal & Gong” 22” 11th anniversary ride. This cymbal is going to get so much use. It sounds like the first rainfall over a dry desert in months.
Parking Garage Drum Solo (Concert Bass Drum)

One take, and really fun! This was recorded and mixed by the outstanding Noah Huber, much thanks to Noah. Enjoy the wonderful natural reverb that comes with a middle school basement parking garage. Also, in case you’re wondering, the kick is a MIJ Yamaha Concert bass drum, absolutely insane and not fun to move, but it sounds wonderful, and looks pretty cool too. Enjoy!

I’m not a huge fan of drum solos, but I think I did alright here.

I Couldn’t find a demonstration for these lugs anywhere else, so I made a quick one of my own.

I really liked this! Good work!
Awesome composition! I love the use of the different mallets for the final chord.
Thanks, Luke! I’m glad you enjoyed.
Sounds great!
oh HELL YES. this goes insanely hard. wonderful sound
Thank you!
Gorgeous song, did you write it?
Yes, more information is in the description. Thanks for watching!
amazing
I must stand tall while giving you a symbol of salute for such a fine way of symbolizing a cymbal
Wade of @TheDrumThing and @DankPods needs to see this video.
Indeed, get on down to cashies!

Goody Work , . - a compliment from this channel means a lot , . . well done
Thats not wet, Thats Dripping.
It's beautiful
bass drum aint that old either probably around 2001
Sorry Camren, it’s from the 70s-90s, brush up on your Yamaha drum history.
@colenoah dang it, well the school bought it in 2001 I belive, whenever the middle school was built but I don't know for sure
still is a great bass drum though, surprised you remembered it
in my opinion, that sounds like a cymbal that you hit with a stick, not the first rainfall over a dry desert in months. just a thought lol
Okay Camren
Hi @colenoah
I've always wanted a concert bass drum.
If you look for 28” bass drums on eBay, you could get lucky. I saw one for only $200 the other day, a WMP Ludwig. This Yamaha one isn’t mine, I’m borrowing it, but one day I might try to buy it. Old drums like this get beaten up pretty easy, so you gotta look out. The one in this video is no exception, it’s a mess! Thanks for checking out my video.
What did you do to it???
If you watch the first video, you’ll see the broken cymbal in it’s original form. It was 50+ years old, and it was in a band room, two ingredients that don’t mix well. Over the course of four years, it got utterly abused until it was unusable. It was already too far gone, so I decided to try to cut out the cracks for fun and it somehow kind of worked.
@ Is that a Too Far Gone reference??? I think it is.
@FatherBunting I’m afraid not lol, just a coincidence.
Playing drums is fun, there are no rules. Experiment with sounds, you have the skills. I hope you have many, many wonderful years of drumming.
Well done, bass drums like that are like walking terriers in a sea of poodles. I take my big ol' bass drum to culverts and such, great fun. This instantly caught my eye and ears!
There are two bass drums I like to use, the 28” concert bass and my 15” converted marching snare. I have to agree, these big bass drums are so much fun to use, just a pain to carry, I nearly dropped it down the stairs! Thanks for checking it out, and I’m glad you enjoyed!
This is really really cool.
cool to see you in the comment section!
Glad this popped up on my recommended! Some great twists and turns - really engaging. Wicked technique with lots of vocab AND beautiful tones and tonal combinations. Thanks!
Thank you! I’m really glad you are enjoying my music! :) Wait, I just realized you’re the solo everyday guy, I love your work!
Thanks a lot @colenoah! You're too kind.
So is it improve bc I do see music or is it a mix of both?
100% improvised, the music is for all state.
Good to see a youngster using traditional grip so naturally!
Thanks! I’ve been doing it for several years now, started with matched, but just found trad to be more comfortable.
I'm in a metal band and have always been a metal drummer and I use traditional grip. It just feels way more natural and I get may more control over the kit. Only downside is I gota put my wrist in a weird position for rim shots bc my snare is straight up (not on any angle). The snare has to be like that bc of the 2 kicks.
I cant play the drums without traditional grip, my technique just goes through the door. Only time I dont use it is if for some reason i decide I wana have a shot at Red Hot Chili Peppers song bc everything is a rimshot.
Cole I accidentally stole your drum key
I know, I needed that. Bring it back to me tomorrow.
A drummer needs his drum key!!!! It should be carried with him at all times!
its actually kinda a nice swish for jazz 💀
It is surprisingly nice, the holes make it quieter, so it hangs out with my light jazz trio type cymbals.
Cole after all we have been through together that is one of the funniest things we talk about to me
Soooooooo dumb. Wont hear that over everything that's going on.
Do I hear a banjo?
Yes, indeed! I’m fact, that’s you!
Dude, where did you get those coconut shells from? This is an awesome idea!
You can buy them from most grocery stores and then just scrape out the coconut. I’m glad you like the idea!
I thought this was The Drum Thing by the thumbnail
Man, I wish I had all those cymbals!
cant wait to see you repair it
This is the repair, I’m just lazy and didn’t fully sand down the giant bite taken out of it, it shouldnt re-crack though, it’s smoothed enough for the time being at least.
Not only is it hung on the wrong side, but you also hit it the wrong way, no wonder it cracked
It actually cracked originally because it was on the “right side” (the big holes came first.) Also it belonged to a middle school band program, so that would explain the cracking lol. I’m playing it like a swish cymbal, it’s perfectly fine to hit it flange up, as long as you’re careful like I am.
China cymbals can be hung both ways, in the jazz scene especially they use them round side up. Doesnt help with hard hitting though so you schould def change your playing intensity when doing that.
@@colenoah "careful like I am" *throws the stick at it*
@eggyvonn you got me there lol! I don’t throw drumsticks at cymbals unless they’re broken like this one. I take really good care of my cymbals, even this one when bringing it to recording sessions or gigs.
@ Half of my cymbals are from the 50s-70s, and in my entire history of drumming, not a single stick, head, or cymbal has broken.
Just a scratch..
Peter come back...there's a wolf in the forest
went in with high expectations, left satisfied
What an amazing tone! Honestly... I agree with above, "agreed, perfect in every aspect".
Brutal jazz ppl would love this cymbal
That’s me!
Peak the Drum thing reference
agreed, perfect in every aspect
Nothing wrong with it, 100% perfect.
Btw he is a pianist. He played piano for my HS jazz band last year. He’s just primarily a saxophonist
Well yeah, I clearly know how it works, I just am not a “pianist”, I’m a drummer who can fake it well lol.
Neat!
Cole bby you should do a ton of instructional content
That’s the plan!
Thats so cool Cole :D
I’m glad you enjoyed! :)
Wonder whos bass it is?
Good question…
