@scorpionsfatality They have to pay-literally-each year they keep the ride open. It's not cheap to use the licensed Garfield character and theme. And in keeping with their constant re-theming of the ride, I'd say it's time for something new!
That is true, and when Viacom bought the Garfield IP, they increased the fee to the point where Garfield's Nightmare ended in 2019, and the Old Mill was brought back. Also, the ride was made even scarier over the years as the lack of care caused some malfunctions (like the strips in the tunnel losing some light, resulting in characters having black eyes).
I'am a Garfield fan, I would love to take a ride! a curiosity, but the comic strips that are seen along the way, were invented for the attraction? in my opinion, yes.

Many people criticized the ride as being too scary for children (and I bet there were younger kids who were scared by this ride).
This is the dumbest ride ever. It was better as the old mill...
