Either disposable heroes or fight fire with fire has to be my favorite Metallica tune. The solo for disposable heroes is incredible. Love that descending arpeggio that starts the second half.
We've seen Metallica on stage, on DVD, and in the movie theaters. We've even seen them perform with symphonies. But now we listen to them as if they were playing through a NES.
I remember watching the Big 4 in theatres with all my friends. We took up the top 2 rows and were raging so hard you could feel the steps move. Had people recognize me just from that and told how they loved that we treated it like an actual concert. Brotherhood of Steel shit! \m/

@@Badger32284 Personally, I think if Burton had lived, I could totally see him pursuing a path away from Metallica to more orchestrated types of music. Not that he would have left Metallica completely, maybe he would have, but at least I think he would have beat them to the punch with the whole "S&M" thing, in the band or not! Probably would have got a symphony with Metallica about a decade before we actually got it if Burton hadn't have passed! He was already there in his mind anyways, I think. I could have easily seen him becoming heavily involved with movie scores or any number of orchestral projects.
After spending the best part of my teens and 20's learning every riff and lead, and later the drums for this album, I am in awe at how well these are replicated. Absolutely magnificent!

Metallica can't go out and play their first 5 albums without months and months of revisiting the material... do is kind of higher praise than if James Hetfield got on here to comment. way to be inappropriately woke in metal, home of the autistic musician class though.
The reason this works so well is the source material - these are amazing songs, so well written to begin with. And that is a sign of good, well written music - you can take it and perform it in different styles and it still holds up well. Awesome work on transcribing all this this to 8-Bit though!
Clicked on this out of curiosity, ended up listening to the whole thing because it was so damn good. Also, by the time I got to Orion, a though occurred to me: Metallica's compositions are timeless to the point that even an 8-bit rendition is captivating. I got lost in the music as I do when listening to the real album. Best metal album of all time from the best metal band of all time, in my opinion. Also, nice cover art.

This is a fantastic example on how well-written music can stand not only the test of time, but being reaccommodated into different formats and genres. All the nuances, emotional responses and melodic intentions are there. I'm fittin to use this as an example for teaching music production.

Battery is brutally fast, iirc 83ms between the short hits of the gallop. To put that in perspective that's about 12 hz, much faster and the hand movements would almost be in the audible range. Kinda makes me want to mess around with the inSIDious for fun.

Originally being instrumental helps, and it already sounded a little 8-bit-esque, IMO. Turned out almost perfect!
