I’m a single Dad of a 13 and 15 year old. I’m a gun owner and conceal carry 24/7 for work. What Jennifer and James Crumbley did was reckless criminal neglect. They ARE guilty. I hope they get the maximum prison sentence.
Maybe that’s why you feel like this. Being a single dad and this day and age. It’s a shame you can’t trust YOUR kids. I grew up with guns everywhere and knew better than to take one without permission. A buddy’s dad had way more than we did, we were 12-15 and walking the mountains with .22s just for fun. Shooting at targets, not poaching animals or even thinking of shooting people. Yes, I’m close to 50 years old and remember seeing rifles on racks in trucks in the school parking lot.
A gun safe, with a combination more complicated than 000, would have prevented this sociopath from shooting up the school. I know several people who are responsible gun owners who keep their guns in locked heavy safes. This man is an accessory to a mass murder, while ignoring severe problems of his son. Guilty as charged.
Hopefully you don't have a home invasion and someone entering your home and you have to (in a very scary situation) take the time to use a combination to unlock your weapon to defend yourself. I sure so hope this never happens to you or your children. NOT GUILTY. The murderer is locked up for life. The parents were trying to make ends meet. Husband had to take on food delivery due to just losing his job. This is a gun grab and unfortunately you are falling for it. This is also a loss for all parents in America. Watch out....if your child now stabs someone...parents will be responsible.
@5GreenAcres the proper story. You yanks if you are one. Too trigger happy. Your cops have zero discipline. Shoot 1st and questions later. Such a shame.

I gotta say, the defense has done her best. As a past juror I couldn't take the behavior of Mrs. Crumbly's atty. This one speaks loudly but gets her points across well.
Mrs. Crumbley's attorney was worse than fingernails on a blackboard. She reminded me of a preppy high school girl from her looks, that voice, mannerisms and whiney attitude. Acting like she's all invested, but bottom line, just putting on a show. She did what she had to do though...got the job done.

Didn't it take 11 hours for Jennifer's deliberation? They must have not felt they were not close to a decision. Either that or the judge wanted to go home.
@Nocomment950 Wow, you're all over the place. The parents were supposed to turn themselves into the police at that point... not run and not go back to their house.

These people have had their lives exposed, texts and messages read and heard- all of their dirty laundry aired. That alone should give people motivation to do better as it relates to guns in the home and teen mental health.
I so agree. This case showed the worst of what could be happening in some homes this day and age (without even factoring the danger of irresponsible gun ownership with youth in the homes), with parents self-absorption in their personal lives, with work and lack of involvement in their kids lives from an emotional standpoint, spending time talking with them, checking in and knowing what they are doing when alone, with friends, monitoring their social media, games they play and with whom online, and needless to say, paying attention to warning signs, consulting with professionals when these are present, just doing the basics of effective parenting.

They are educators that have undergone the necessary training to get their diploma in their career they chose to be in. Yes I agree we as parents have to discipline but our kids are at school for almost 8 hours , he never asked for helped but claimed he tried
Agreed. Especially since the school didn’t have all of the info about the situation that the parents did. The school officials didn’t know the drawing of the gun was the same one that they just purchased and that Ethan was becoming very experienced at shooting firearms. The parents knew to some extent that Ethan was dealing with some kind of untreated mental problems, so the words “help me” on the drawing should have been a huge red flag along with other facts.
@@Queenme1978I agree. On school days, many kids spend more hours with their teachers than their parents. (Depending what time they go to bed.) Teachers aren't just teaching 'subjects' to our kids. They're also teaching them how adults (other than family) behave in the world. Most people who are intelligent enough to get into college, could easily obtain a teaching degree. Teachers need more than an academic degree to teach our kids. They need to have the right temperament, common sense, and actually like kids. Some of the same qualities parents should have, also. Not all teachers do, not all parents do. Teachers can make or break a child. They are the second most important people in our kids' young lives. I do find fault with the school in this case, but not nearly as much fault as the parents. The Crumbley's really failed their kid. The school policies need to change.
Not checking his backpack after seeing those drawings and comments, is the one thing they should have done, as should the parents, at that meeting. This prosecutor’s closing was presumably not one of her best days at work. Drawn out, slow ramblings. Not what I expected at all at all .. so far anyhoo 4:35:14
If this child is so mentally ill, so ill that he cried out for help, so ill he admits there were voices, so ill he has only one friend that he texted 2,000 times in a few months, why is he sentenced to life in prison without parole? What ever happened to not guilty due to mental illness? This child should have been found mentally incompetent to stand trial, sent to a mental institution, and given mental health care. How on earth do we as a society take an ill child, and tell him he will spend the rest of his life in jail? Is this the type of society we want to live in? Anyone who has delt with mental illness knows it is a disease. This child didn't do anything to cause him to have chemical imbalances that resulted in violent outbursts. I think a lot has gone wrong in this instance, there are many victims. Ethan is one of them.
because being mentally ill and criminally insane are different. Having a mood disorder or personality disorder or trauma etc is not a defence. It has to be something like psychosis. For example in Ethan's case the argument would be he felt emotionally abandoned, had pent up rage and an uncontrollable desire to harm others, extreme loneliness and perverse thoughts, perhaps OCD etc- this is not a defence! It pretty much just makes him a bad person. IF it were a real defence, most people wouldn't be in prison, because childhood trauma, a history of abuse and neglect, subsequent personality disorders and rage/ emotional dis-regulation is the reason why most people actually commit crimes. IF on the other hand the defence was that he was suffering a psychotic episode where he believed that the school had been invaded by aliens and he was the last line of defence between the aliens and saving humanity- THIS would be grounds for criminal insanity. I hope that makes sense.
Did you listen to what he did to bird chicks? It was detailed in his trial. I couldn't finish to listen to it because it was horrifying. This isn't someone who is "ill" or "mentally incompetent", he's a dangerous sadist who later killed people who weren't harming or bullying him. I am mentally ill and I NEVER would harm anyone, let alone kill. Don't lump mentally ill people in with a monster like him.
I wonder if JC threatened one of his potential defense witnesses and therefore they ended up not having any witnesses other than his sister. The prosecution would have able to question them about any of that while on the stand being that the calls are monitored.
It is my understanding that Ethan, oops, "the shooter", was certified to stand trial as an adult. If that is the case, shouldn't the parents' defense be, Ethan is an adult as determined by the court, therefore, they have no culpability and no responsibility for Ethan's actions?
The parents are responsible for their minor children, unless of course they are emancipated. Ethan was tried in an adult court vs juvenile court due to the severity of the crime. It doesn’t get the parents off the hook for their negligence. They don’t get to say, he committed murder so he was actually an adult in our home. The juvenile court system handles less severe crimes and focuses more on rehabilitation. Juvenile sentencing ends at 18 or 21 years of age, not really sure if exact age. How would you feel about kids thinking that they could commit murder at age 16 or 17 knowing they would only face less than a few years of consequences? The chances of Ethan being rehabilitated after this heinous crime are unlikely, do the juvenile court system wouldn’t be appropriate in his case. His parents still had responsibility to do what they could to prevent the crime, especially because of the signs were clearly there and failure to secure the gun.
Just the fact that the shooter’s name Ethan Crumbley was not allowed to be used in this trial says volumes about how far off the rails our justice system has gone. The fact that the prosecutor was not allowed to describe the carnage Ethan caused added to the distortion. Yes, this trial isn’t retrying Ethan, but James is an accessory before the fact here. Not a fan of this judge but hoping for a guilty verdict by the jury.
It was pretty pointless in my opinion. She lives in Florida and saw Ethan after her and James mum just died. She said she was no warning signs and if she had she would have addressed them. She also visited once to James home and had no concerns. I doubt it will help him!
His sister has a long distance relationship with her brother or his son. It was pretty evident during her testimony. She said they were close but barely communicated with each other. She also lives far away from James and his family.
Ethan himself said that life changed for him after he lost his Grandmother and his friend, So his relationship with her meant something. No mention of his aunty. That says something also.
I’m guessing though that you didn’t provide them a gun of their own and even if you did you don’t give them unfettered access to it and even if you did and do, you don’t do it disregarding their depression and lack of good grades and calls for help.
Great closing by the prosecutor. So many unreasonable statements by the defense...and I'm paraphrasing..."Ethan didn't know where the dad hid the gun"...well obviously he did know. "The teacher looked at Ethan and couldn't believe it was him because he was such a sweet kid." They say that about all sorts of killers when they interview their neighbors. Bottom line, he didn't lock up the guns like he OBVIOUSLY should have...especially if he knew the kid was "begging for the gun". Guilty.
After the John Hopkins in the Maya trail can we just agree to kick every Hopkins out of this country 🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤣 I'm just sayin the Hopkins guy in this case was pretty bad too he didn't protect the kids or attempt to actually help Ethan either 💯😔
The Crumbleys have been a family. Unfortunately the name fits how well they’re holding together. Question, can someone with knowledge of prisons or law answer, it’s really bugging me. For now only Jennifer and the son are convicted. The son sentenced to LWoP, the mother to four consecutive 15 year sentences. If she somehow is released someday, she is a felon. Does this mean that she will not be able to see her son in a visit, ever? Similarly, can prisoners currently in prison (once they are stabilized, classified) call prisoners at another prison? It just occurred to me 2 days ago that this family, depending on the James Crumbley verdict, sentencing, and the answers to my questions, might completely crumble apart
I will say this If your going to hold this couple responsible for their son's actions, then Latino and black parents must be also for their kids and grandkids who carry guns and kill people and rob them as they know they're kids carry guns and live with them.
Rubbish, do their parents buy them their guns? No. They are in the main stolen / supplied by their gangs. Their issues are absent parents, addicted parents, addicted kids, peer pressure.

These prosecutors and lead sheriff should be ashamed. They’re playing off emotion not fact.
I’d be surprised if he was found not guilty but his wife was

Yes 👍
Okay I looking for this
@@annettekeys6071 Jury went home for the day. Back at 8:30am
This prosecutor’s closing was presumably not one of her best days at work.
Drawn out, slow ramblings. Not what I expected at all at all .. so far anyhoo 4:35:14
Guilty no doubt. So sad 5 lives were lost bc of these parents. The 4 school kids, and their son who was literally screaming for help. So gd sad.
Again, Who buys a gun for their child! Guns should only be used by law officers and soldiers that is IT! these parents need a membrane test.

*Sorry.... What time will the Jury Lunch be delivered at?*

Are the ppl on the school next to go on trial?????
nope they get away they are protected considered government body.
Insane how the government has "immunity" huh?
Very good explanation!!
He knew right from wrong. He even planned the shooting.
His psychiatrist testified she didn’t fine any mental illness for Ethan during his sentencing
Yes- I don’t see how the court can have it both ways?!
Agree
It would not surprise me if they did. They haven't taken any responsibility for him up to now.
@@gingersmith2888 good clarification
Puleeze 🙄I knew every hiding place in my home growing up. Their son did too.
"I have access to the gun"
What did you guys think of the sister’s testimony? I wasn’t able to watch or chat. Those who did, what happened??
It was pretty pointless in my opinion. She lives in Florida and saw Ethan after her and James mum just died. She said she was no warning signs and if she had she would have addressed them. She also visited once to James home and had no concerns. I doubt it will help him!
His sister has a long distance relationship with her brother or his son. It was pretty evident during her testimony. She said they were close but barely communicated with each other. She also lives far away from James and his family.
It was a waste of time
Thanks folks appreciate your input
Ethan himself said that life changed for him after he lost his Grandmother and his friend, So his relationship with her meant something. No mention of his aunty. That says something also.
I have two teens that refuse to talk to me about anything. This is wrong representation
Guilty.
Will this be the precedent when it comes to the 90% of mass shootings that happen in the ghetto ?
If so alot of baby Mama's are in trouble.

Good question. We don’t have enough room in jails so I’m gonna say no. 13% responsible for 50% of murders, that’s a lot of jail space.
This mumbling judge...🤷
What’s going on? Are they coming in soon?
Gone for the day; returning tomorrow to resume deliberations.
Why was there a side bar when the prosecutor began questioning James Crumbley’s sister?
Because the prosecutor when asking her a question about Ethan called him “shooter” instead of just referring to him as her nephew.
@@jemsmom97 I see.
I'm going to guess she visited him in jail. They asked when the last time she saw him was.

Jennifer Crumbley was convicted, but she hasn’t been sentenced yet. Her sentencing hearing is on April 9.
I think any parent acting this negligent should be held accountable. But your racist comment is unsettling and unnecessary.
@@kristinludwig4828how is it racist when it's a fact in Latino and black neighborhoods or the most crimes as in murder is carried out by black people upon whites including murder, deal with It I grew up in those high crime areas I seen it first hand, that's the problem people like yourself pacifying criminals because of race.
