20:00 I get so irked when this situation is misrepresented. These parents were not charged with their son’s crimes. His crimes were murder. They are charged with THEIR crimes that facilitated his murders. Buying a handgun for a minor is illegal. Period. Failing to secure it whilst knowing their son was mentally unstable, violent at home, and abusing alcohol all constitute gross negligence here. They screwed up in criminally negligent ways that warrant punishment. These murders literally would not have happened in this way, were it not for the parents.
yes - this is the backbone of felony murder. We charge driver's of gettaway vehicles in the commission of robberies after all. How is this all that different?
Absolutely. The quality of the questions asked of the various people being interviewed was superb. And the defense lawyers were also very qualified to explain the perspective that a defense lawyer must take. Everyone who was interviewed was excellent. But the awful drayma of the music really cheapened the quality. It was like old horror films’ soundtracks. I hope that they get rid of the music in any further reporting. I also hope that they consider removing the music here.
As an oxford high parent the minute I heard what was happening- I called my kids and went to the school immediately. Neither james or Jennifer tried to contact their son! James went home to check on the whereabouts of the gun. That is extremely telling. They knew immediately that their son could be ( and was) the shooter
Also when this was happening James was in the Meijer parking lot waiting on a Door Dash order, so instead of staying there and checking on his son, he left to go home to look for the gun. 😲 I couldn't believe it when I heard that!!
Not defending the parents but the reason that James went home to look for the gun was they had gotten called to the school earlier to see that drawing Ethan did. Jennifer ran out of her office to go to the school but then got the message from James that the gun was missing which was why she text telling him not to do it. She thought he would commit suicide.
When they spent $20k on horses, but not pay to add her son on her health insurance. That is negligent. •They paid a horse veterinarian to diagnose and prescribe medication for said horse. What Ethan did is horrible, but going through his journal l fell he was neglected . He was sentenced to life without paroul and i don't think this is fair, whyy don't the community give him a second chance in life which his parents failed.
It all boils down to that face to face meeting at the school. Both parents could have spoken up and informed the staff that Ethan had access to a gun. They remained silent as a result there are four dead , several wounded, and many scarred for life.
AND they should have taken him with them when the school requested. Jennifer could have taken FMLA to take care of Ethan, or at least taken him back to office with her that day. Or had Ethan ride around with James, helping him do Door Dash deliveries. I'll never understand why they didn't pull him from school that day after that meeting.
If he and his attorney were REALLY smart, they'd broker a plea deal with Karen. Except that she might not be inclined to grant them one even if they asked. After all, she's fresh off of one victory and has little incentive to wheel and deal with the defense.
Jennifer’s answer to that now infamous question was incredibly bad…but far more incredible was that HER LAWYER asked her the question. The best answer…even if completely untrue (and I believe in this instance, the smug know-it-all Jennifer was actually being uncharacteristically “honest…”) might have been…”My GOD…I would have done EVERYthing differently!!!!” Unfortunately for Jennifer, she actually told the truth answering this question. I’m glad Jennifer was convicted because she created the situation that made this nightmare happen to these precious kids, their families, and the community beyond. James may very well be at least “somewhat” sympathetic in that he comes across, to me, as a pathetic loser who was hopelessly subservient to this complete monster he married.
Gun safety is the only thing that will stop other parents from being charged when their child does the unthinkable. Having fire arms in a home requires a huge responsibility to the ADULTS in the home. Use a gun safe correctly never store ammunition in the same place as the guns. Never leave the factory setting of 0000 on the gun safe. Always safe guard with trigger locks. Very simple common sense solutions. You might have the second ammendment to own a gun, but you have to be responsible for that gun bottom line.
James Crumbley is not anymore a "sympathetic character" than Jennifer. But the fact the news is telling you, shows the defense team is stronger this time.
I disagree. And I’ve thought that for a long time. No media telling me that. Between his emotional responses and his overall more humble/broken demeanor, is just is a more sympathetic character. Jennifer was pugilistic and defensive. Not a good look.
I don't find him more sympathetic either, so it's confusing why they keep saying that. While I believe he's not as sharp and assertive as Jennifer is--and I believe she's the one who masterminded their attempt to flee--I don't find him more sympathetic at all. More simple-minded perhaps, and he seems bewildered at how he's come to be in this spot. But he made the gun purchase and then proceeded to make the same missteps that his wife did.
I think she forgot to clean the room for a couple of months. If she saw the room it looks like a hurricane went through there. That really looks like a responsible gun owner's room. Well, now we know why the gun was not locked up. They probably couldn't find it. By him calling and saying, I think it's my son, .That just goes to show you that he was suspicious of him from the beginning. Therefore, why did he buy him a gun? He should have been one hundred percent sure that he would have never done this. If you're not a hundred percent sure, you don't buy the person a gun.
Speaking of responsible gun ownership, the Crumbley's disregard for gun safety is fueled by the gun worship culture which is very prevalent in Militia-gan. The “I love you,I love you, I love you” was incorrectly attributed to James Crumbley in the squad car. It was said by the shooter when his parents were leaving his interrogation room after the shooting - it was right after Jennifer ( his mom) asked the shooter “Why?”
I felt like they never made that clear in the interrogation video either. I listened over and over and I couldn't figure out if it was Ethan or James saying that. Are you sure it was Ethan? How did you find out? I'm really curious. Because I think the whole trial could hinge on this one thing for James. If he was saying it, there's at least a sliver of evidence he cared. But if it's Ethan, it's just sadder because neither parent said anything back to him.
I still struggle with this situation. If they charge the parents, mayne they should charge the school counselor who was alerted by three different teachers of concerns for this kid.
Please see my comment above. But to your question, it’s all about evidence and what you can prove. There is simply no evidence that the counselor acted with any kind of negligence-let alone gross negligence. He testified that he thought Ethan was a danger to himself. The trial is about a hateful ,revengeful, prosecutor looking for blood for the parents. The pitchforks and torches are in full display.@@SilentThundersnow
There are three types of parents, the ones who doesnt wants to see or accept, the ones who don't see it if theres any problems with their kids, and the ones who doesn't care.
It’s kinda ironical that during court hearings to see if the prosecution had enough to take to trial Jennifer & James, that the two were mouthing “I love you” to each other though once Jennifer’s trial started Jennifer defence was to push James under the bus.
The school should be on trial! They failed to protect their students. They should have held Ethan in an area with adult supervision. But, they let themselves be too fearful of parent reactions to require the parents take Ethan, and then they ignored their responsibility to maintain safety on the school. They are more guilty than the parents.
How 🤔it’s not the school job to know their child better than they do they have 1 child to raise the school has probably over 300 students and maybe their own children I don’t agree with that the parents should have paid more attention to their baby I’m a single mother and I will always stay attentive to my babies Jennifer was not paying close attention to details when it came down to being a parent
@@thecrazyhouse1503 Also parents, but the school had the evidence that Ethan was thinking about a school shooting. The teachers warned the admin that there was a real and present danger and the school did nothing. I do not excuse the parents, but the school carries blame here. I say this as a teacher. The school admin were informed and they did not take the action that would have kept all the students safe, they were afraid of unsettling demanding parents. This is happening often, not the shooting, but the school admins not taking the due care to protect their students, and staff from harm.
OOOHHHHH!! Until JUST now, I had completely believed it was ETHAN yelling I LOVE YOU! repeatedly at the police station! 😯😲😯 The audio in many of the clips from the last trial was not easy to decipher. THANKS for that important clarification.
He will be found innocent, or will get a slap on the wrist. This, despite the fact that it was James who bought and should have secured the gun. It’s just the way society is; they’re both at fault, I guarantee he won’t get a sentence anywhere close to hers.
It's a disgrace they keep a man accused of negligence in full shackles, the man is not a threat to anyone and yet they insist on humiliating him for no reason.
OK, just being real here... look at the video when Jennifer and James were at the Police Station- not once did they get closer than 3 feet from each other. And body language shows James is obviously in a state of shock, but Jennifer is not. And finally, when they saw Ethan, he cried out "I LOVE YOU!" to him several times while Jennifer did NOT. Add to that his mom just died recently, lost his job due to drinking at work to deal with the pain of his mother's death- all add to one thing: James was on another planet. So I think he wasn't clearly thinking. And of course, the most obvious point- who had the gun last? Jennifer did. Her Jury said that was the #1 reason they found her guilty- she was the last one to have the gun. She said James took from her car- PROVE IT. Believe me, I am not taking his side, nor am I 2A wacko- I'm just being real. Prove he had the gun last and find him guilty- good luck with that.
@sammyneedsanalibi I too noticed the parents body language in police station. Jennifer wouldn’t sit near her husband and even pushed away from the table, as if distancing herself from situation. While James sat hunched over deflated, Jen kicked back looking all cocky. I think that’s what defense will try to highlight.
Jury said they convicted Jennifer because the evidence showed that she was the last one in possession of it and failed to secure it...can't have it both ways..I think he'll walk with time served
They had a grow op in the basement, that's why her lawyer didn't want basement stair pictures shown. Had Jennifer ever "cleaned his room" like she declared in her testimony, wouldn't she have seen the dead animals he had on display in his room? Lawyer had their alcoholism kept from the jury. The Father is a deadbeat with several kids he has nothing to do with and he refused to pay support when he had a 6 figure job. Curious how he goes from a 6 figure job to door dash and drug op. The jury is only getting a portion of the story. There are no winners here.
@esdee878 NO. You are wrong. Go watch the Miller hearing from day 1 on, everything I stated is discussed at length, in those hearings. Maybe you have watched and you don't understand what you heard, but these are facts that lawyers left out of his parents trials, to not trigger the viewers and because of the graphics.
@@stacyholmes9552 I've watched all of the hearings. The father did not have several kids. He had one other son who lives with his mom in Florida. They did mention the mom's drinking and affairs at her trial. Not once has anyone talked about a "grow op" in the basement. That would have been a big part of mom's trial if it was true. Jennifer said during her trial that Ethan's room was messy, that's why she didn't go in there. She didn't want to see the mess. Please re-watch the cases.
@esdee878 then you missed hearing the information. Not his trial where victim impact statements are made. The hearings before the judge decided if he had a mental illness that could be a factor. Ethan worked with his brother. The video where he falls at work, it's all in that hearing. Prosecution went after a doctor who copied and pasted his report, Dr King was his name. You are missing important details. This hearing was more informative than the trials because it is where you hear what each side doesn't want the other to know about, like her having several boyfriends. The hearing is long and detailed so don't fast forward through anything or you'll miss it again.
Rochester Hills - The parents of the accused Oxford High School shooter had an unsecured "marijuana grow operation" in their basement, Oakland County prosecutors said Thursday. The revelation came during testimony from Oakland County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Detroit news
I always felt Kyle Rittenhouse's mother should have been charged with the 2 deaths and 1 injury. She drove him across the state line and knew he had the weapon with him. It was illegal for him to have the weapon because of his age.
That stupid foreman talking to the public saying that a big part of it was that Jennifer was the last one they saw with the gun. I bet that will be used heavily in James trial by the Defense to lessen his responsibility. .
I’m thinking the dad will get not guilty. We expect dads to be absent and less involved. The fact that he taught him to shoot a gun will be thought of as quality bonding. We don’t expect neglect from a mother.
When you leave the original code in place and the whole family knows it you’re negligent!! 000 was the code to the gun case and it wasn’t changed when they bought it.
If my underage kid takes the car keys and the other underage kids are killed in the accident, am I liable since I did not lock up the keys? An automobile is just as much a weapon as a gun. I am trying to understand the precedent set in this case. Assume the exact same facts.
Why people acting like yall don’t understand they gave a child a gun and he killed people so what is not clear. Too answering your question if you give permission to that underage baby car keys and a car to drive knowing what’s right and what’s wrong yes you should go to jail period…
The only parents that are scared by the parents being guilty in this trial, are ones that didn't watch the trial or have any understanding of it. This trial doesn't hold the parents responsible for their son's choices, it holds them accountable for their absolutely neglectful choices that actually helped cause this shooting to happen Without their terrible behavior, Ethan couldn't have committed the murders. They were so utterly neglectful, refusing him mental help when he was hallucinating and terrified, and instead buying him a gun, and abandoning him all the time. On top of that, when the school called them in because they were so concerned about him drawing pictures of a gun and bloody people and the words HELP ME at school, they took 11 minutes to shrug off the school counselor who asked them to get him help immediately, and they went back to their days. They didn't even bother to tell the school counselor that 3 days earlier they had bought him that exact gun that was in his drawing. This was a case of such horrific negligence, resulting in 4 dead children. Had authorities known how neglected ethan was, they would've removed him from their home and maybe arrested them anyway. Parents need not fear going to jail for being bad parents. Parents should fear their daughter being forced to carry a pregnancy if they are raped. They should fear being forced to carry a pregnancy after a DR tells you it will kill you or your daughter. Even if the baby is going to die too, you'll be forced to carry that pregnancy. Women have lost power over their own body, the State now owns it. And any man who happens to want you pregnant and succeeds at it owns that woman's body as an incubator, against her will. A nurse called police on a woman for having a miscarriage at home, and not getting it out of the toilet, a place many miscarriages happen, after the hospital told her that her baby was dead and she would have a miscarriage. They're charging her with abuse of a corpse, maybe murder. A traumatic event like miscarriage can land a woman even more traumatized in jail. It's 99 years in jail in Idaho, if a woman refuses to carry an embryo to 9 months term. Men can rape children and get less than a year. Women are oppressed. We are looking more like Russia or Iran more every day. It's a new day in America, a terrifying day. Women are being forced to have babies, women are losing rights they've had their whole lives in America... I remember thinking how crazy it was women were burned at the stake for being witches. We aren't far from that again. Religious fanatics are taking our freedoms from us in America. Fear that. Don't fear what happened to Jennifer Evil Crumbley.
@thundersnow you are wrong the counselor did not tell them to get him help immediately, he gave them 48 hours to seek counseling for Ethan. He I just as much at fault as Jennifer and James!
It doesn't fall under the category of gross negligence if people would research examples. I wouldn't of had a firearm at the house and I would have locked it better , but these are my own personal beliefs that do not equate to the law.
He's got the blonde one, who seems a lot more on the ball than Shannon ever did. Even before the cases got split, the blonde presented herself more confidently and professionally. Was James an absent parent? This kid never had a chance at life and I’m putting more blame on Jennifer that James… Sorry
The prisons would be full of parents that didn't do their job.
Scared?
Be a better parent.
That's not what this trial is about thankfully. Why don't you watch the trial before you say an irrelevant comment.
I am so glad that there are perfect people in this world.
She actually claimed she cleaned his bedroom? When was the last time that happened?
You can turn on the captions for this video in the settings! No need to listen to the music
It’s kinda ironical that during court hearings to see if the prosecution had enough to take to trial Jennifer & James, that the two were mouthing “I love you” to each other though once Jennifer’s trial started Jennifer defence was to push James under the bus.
Just ironic.. 😉🤗
The audio in many of the clips from the last trial was not easy to decipher.
He's in custody. That's what custody looks like, even if you're just accused of shoplifting a box of cookies.
I'll be shocked if meth abuse allegations don't out in James trial. Because this family checks every meth head box on the chart 😅
Exactly.@@mmeellxx3919
There son is doing life..the parents couldnt have known..
what's the deal with the headset?
He seems to be a little hard of hearing. He started wearing these early on in his court appearances.
Your comment is so full of lies. You obviously know nothing about the case. 🙄
Why isn't the father being charged for purchasing the weapon for his son?
He wasn’t being serious asking for help? WOW POS parent right there. She deserves jail time.
That stupid foreman talking to the public saying that a big part of it was that Jennifer was the last one they saw with the gun. I bet that will be used heavily in James trial by the Defense to lessen his responsibility. .
Why does he have earphones on?
Headphones because he's hard of hearing
This trial doesn't hold the parents responsible for their son's choices, it holds them accountable for their absolutely neglectful choices that actually helped cause this shooting to happen
Without their terrible behavior, Ethan couldn't have committed the murders.
Jennifer’s sentence could be overturned on appeal - her attorney was incompetent. It looks like James might be headed in the same direction.
Will James have the same attorney as Jennifer?
He's got the blonde one, who seems a lot more on the ball than Shannon ever did. Even before the cases got split, the blonde presented herself more confidently and professionally. We all remember that early-on video when the attorneys and the Crumbleys were still a unified case, where Shannon was shaking and trembling all over the place like she was on something.
stop following me holy f youre weird
I feel for Justin's dad...peace and love yall ♡♡ oxford mi ♡♡
I feel for ALL the parents .
Witch Hunt # 2
Very one sided congrats free Jennifer , there is a cost to a police state.u should be ashamed.
