This is really a terrific story - and i didn't even guess the ending - LOL great reading, also. i just love the way he uses the accents -sort of Appalachian. thanks :} (nb - i've been on planet now for quite a while and read loads of scfi, can get kinda boring. - but i really enjoyed this one!)
Yes! At durst i def thought he switched, then no when they did the signal hand, then yes when the lady and he were alone (i figured out the trade war thing) then no when the mocklin got off the space ship, then yes again as he was talking about the new job :D
The absolute best version of this story was done on the 1950's radio serial called X Minus one , they use an entire troop of voice actors along with studio sound effects .
Listen to this narrated audio and then listen to X Minus One afterwards (The link above). It's very cool to hear how they pieced it together to cover all the details.
NewThinkable thank you , if you could find some of the " Nero Wolfe " novels it would be awesome , I start & finish my day on your channel 7 days a week there's so much good stuff here .
Lady: how much is chop meat? Clerk: $2.99 per pound Lady: well, the store across the street sells it for $1.99 per pound! Clerk: then buy it across the street! Lady: but they are out of chop meat!! Clerk: oh, well, when we are out of chop meat we sell it for $.99 cents per pound!!
Different time, different levels of tolerance and bigotry. It doesn't hide racism, too but it has to be put into its big cultural and political era to be a bit excused.
I know where the trading Post came from, I think! Pretty good story :D Also, they keep making fun of the woman for being angry, but no one bothers denying what she thinks it's going on. They talk around it and expect her to fill in the blanks, but that doesn't work on people already angry. I feel like they could have saved some time, had they spoken plainly to each other 🤣
Excellent short story. Thanks for uploading!
The perfect readers voice ...Thank you sir, whoever you are !
He reads the Conan books for them too. I love this narrator :D
The reader is Mr Mark Nelson

Mr. Murray is one of my favorites
Yikes! What an ending!
Reminded me of cargo cults a little bit.
Island of the Sequined Love Nun by Christopher Moore is a very good book about cargo cults
I liked this story
"Women hate to be wrong. Especially redheads."
Thats because they're usually not wrong. Lol
Not wrong tho
Old science fiction doesn't even try to hide its sexism.
Different time, different levels of tolerance and bigotry. It doesn't hide racism, too but it has to be put into its big cultural and political era to be a bit excused.
Don't listen to old time detective fiction, it's even more prevalent.
moklin ?? or moclan??
