The years the Steelers had the afc west rotation (2006, 2009, 2012, 2015, 2018, 2021), they made the playoffs only twice, that too, in the last week of the season. Just goes to show you how much that division haunted the team compared to, say, when they had the AFC South in the rotation.
It's because the AFC West teams in this era liked to spread the ball around. It was the one weakness of Dick Lebeau's defense. That's why the Patriots almost always beat us because they opted to abandon the run completely and spread us out
