i mean, if you wanted to discuss true societal/national collapse, there are cases in Eastern North America. Sure, Inca and Aztec peoples have survived as Quechua and Nahautl people. But further north in the US, nations such as the Powhatans, Susquehannock. Or, an interesting case of Neutral Nation aka Attawandaron, a nation of 50k no what is now southern Ontario and dozens of settlements, and all that's left of them is records in European sources, and artifacts found in soil, as they were wiped off (by epidemics and Iroquois), then replaced by Anishinaabe people.
As a moldovan, I disagree, we always had a similar culture to the wallachians, there was never a distinct "Moldavian" culture. We are romanian, and as much we were separated by other bigger countries, we still are romanian
Its fine for the military to not be under the rule of the civilian government so long as it still serves the nation and doesnt go starting wars on its own like the Japanese army or the Ottoman navy.
You do realise though that these metrics are highly dependant on one very specific way of looking at the world. You'd do well to scrutinise the ideological underpinnings of the assumptions made about the nation state such as the wether or not the existance of nation states is desireable at all. To me all these metrics, even the idea of ranking those states derives from a deeply bourgeois-liberal way of looking at the world vieuwing everying trhough the lens of capitalist economics. And applying this to historical empires, who cannot so often cannot be called "nation-states" because that concept is very modern indeed is deeply a-historical. The main problem I have with this system of classification is that it suggests that places like Findland are the best possible kind of societal arrangement achievable, while an Anarchist would or course argue that Finland is still bad because it is a state, and a capitalist state to boot, depending on the exploitation of the third world to maintain it's institutions and standard, and the oppression and exploitation of the Finnish working class that is inherent to capitalism. All of this is to say: everying is underpinned by ideology, and we would do well to put that ideology under a magnifier before we just accept lists and metrics as fact.
@@brutusthebear9050 An economy where in the majority of property, that is: the means of production, is in private hands, and wherein the economy is thus dominated by the interests of capital, is a capitalist economy. It also stems from the false idea that "socialism" means state intervention into the economy, which it absolutely is not. The idea of a "mixed economy" is in my opinion purely a bourgeois liberal construct, as the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie (capitalism) the dictatorship of the proletariat (socialism/communism) are mutually excusive. A better word for such a "mixed economy" is Keynesianism, wherein capitalism is regulated trough social programmes by a capitalist state for the sake of it's own stability. The only kind of arrangement that I would maybe call a "mixed economy" is wherein capitalist corporations and worker co-ops exist side-by-side in an economy. Though this arrangement would be highly unstable as the interests of worker co-ops and capitalist companies are diametrically opposed.
@Bobby Siecker That is based on the false labor theory of value. Means of production is not a valid concept, as the only true means of production is a productive mind. I do agree that the mixed economy is Keynsian though. Also, corporations cannot exist in a capitalist economy, as they undermine the system as a whole. The whole point of the free market and capitalism is voluntary exchange between people, and a corporation is not a person.
@@brutusthebear9050 I hate to break it to you, but the labor theory of value is pretty fundamental to capitalist economics. The only reason there has been a recent trend in denying it is a vain attempt by bourgeois economists to cover up the fact that labor is being ruthlessly exploited under capitalism. Of course, in our current economic situation the relationship between labor and value seems to be tenuous at best. But that’s because the economy is deeply monopolized and the market is deeply manipulated by those monopolies. If supply and demand were equal, labor and value would correlate, and theoretically labor would not be exploited. But alas, capitalism is a deeply failed economic system that only really functions to enrich a tiny elite at the expense of the environment and the working class. Even more bizarre though is your claim that “Means of production is not a valid concept, as the only true means of production is a productive mind”. I’m sorry to say, but to me that just sounds like some venture-capital start up nonsense. To produce things you need tools, machines, factories, arable land etc. Things don’t just spring forth from the mind through wishful thinking. Actual physical means of production, and the ownership over them, play a fundamental role in all economic activity. Then, corporations are the core of capitalism. Yes, I know that in the libertarian utopia capitalism is about the “voluntary exchange of goods and services”, but unfortunately that line of thinking always forgets about the tendency towards monopoly. Never mind the huge economic benefits of cooperative and centralized production. After all, it’s in capitalism’s name: Capital. It’s an economic system wherein economic resources are concentrated in a few places. That is: it’s concentrated in capital. The “free” market is an utter illusion, a utopian fantasy. It might look good on paper at first glance, but doesn’t work in practice.
@Bobby Siecker Whatever you think Capitalism is, it is not. At least, the concept of Capitalism that is held by the only group that calls itself proudly Capitalist. You are fundamentally wrong because you only learn about the "other side" through those within your echo chamber. Else you would seek out those true proponents of Capitalism and understand that the labor theory of value is antithetical to Capitalism.
