Hagrid, the keeper of keys and grounds at Hogwarts school for witches and wizards and the care of/for magical creatures teacher, is by far the richest character in the series. He gave away 5000 galeons worth of unicorn hair to professor slughorn, and has been there employed since the age of 13 and he was 67 at the end of the series. 54 yrs of pay while being provided for any and all needs, as well as all the magical items to sell. I feel like the Second Wizarding War had all but ensured the Malfoys became the wealthiest wizarding family in Britain if they weren't already. For starters since Narcissa was Bellatrix's closest next of kin and likely the sole beneficiary in her will, with Radolphus put away in Azkaban it means she more than likely inherited all of her sister's wealth, which I imagine included everything she had in Gringotts (the combined Black and Lestrange fortune) as well as whatever real estate both families owned. Then there's the fact that Draco married Astoria Greengrass who is also from a wealthy and respected family. Since most of Astoria's family were struck down by a hereditary curse (herself included), that means Draco should have inherited her family's estate as well. With all this in mind Scorpius is set to one day become ridiculously wealthy as he will inherit the combined Malfoy, Lestrange, Black and Green Greengrass fortunes.

Although with Andromeda disowned, Bellatrix would have inherited the vast sum of her parent's wealth being the second oldest. And when she was killed it's most likely all of her possessions would have been passed onto Narcissa since there's no way she would have left anything to Andromeda.
Also its not known if Walburga stipulated that her side of the family's money would go to Sirius or not. Maybe the vault was still in his name but for we know whoever was the executor of the Black's estate (possibly Narcissa) might have already cleaned it out, leaving Harry with but an empty vault.

The portion mentioning Nicholas Flamel and the Stone reminded me about a pop song that was written for Laura Branigan in 1983 called “Imagination”. The opening stanza references alchemy, as it mentions a “power to turn iron into gold”.
I often wondered how exactly Harry came into his fortune, because I seem to recall having read that James Potter had come into the same fortune when he came of age and married Lily. It wasn’t until watching this video that I learned about Harry’s grandfather having been a successful potioneer. The part about Sirius having come into a similar fortune was always circumspect, since he had been born into wealth, despite the fact that his mother disowned him when he left.

    • @teresamcmurrin8672
      @teresamcmurrin8672 Год назад +5

      Actually, Flamel is quite well-known.
Nicholas Flamel was a real person, a professional scribe, a wealthy man noted for his generosity--but there's no evidence he was ever involved in alchemy, let alone that he found the Philosopher's Stone or created the Elixir of Life. Those ideas came from the many legends about him that rose in the 17th Century, 200 years later. It started with an alchemical work that was claimed to be by Flamel. That led to a wealth of legends and literature (and several Elvis-worthy "sightings" supporting the idea of his immortality).
He became a bit of a trope, actually. Any book or essay that even touches on Western alchemy will mention him. He's shown up in many novels (including The Hunchback of Notre Dame), movies--and even a video game (Assasin's Creed: Unity). His name is all over the place!
So I disagree that HP made a mistake.

While I can only speculate, there are likely a few richer wizards and witches in Great-Brittain than the Potter Family (though probably not as rich as the Malfoys or the Lestranges) going by the fact that Harry had a regular bank vault and there were several vaults guarded by dragons (which likely means that their contents are even more valuable than Harry's vault). If I had to venture a guess of whom could be another rich family with a Dragon guarded vault, it would likely be the Crouch family.

In the US, we tend to forget that in England, generational wealth, usually to the first born son (primogeniture), was the norm for hundreds of years (think of Great English Estates).
Primogeniture may still be THE norm in the world Harry lives in. I think regular deposits were made into Harry's account, throughout his life, from his family's unmentioned, unnamed inter-generational business interests. While his father did not need employment he was able to support his friends with money; it had to come, continually, from somewhere.

With the ability to create infinite gold, it would make more sense for a man like him to simply create gold when he needed, rather than stockpiling it.

Why are all these rich snobs still working?! Lockhart can easily kick his feet up and retire if he wanted to, especially if he’s keeping the secret of his fame. I’m sure Harry would want to finish school, but he can probably retire at age 30. The Malfoys and Blacks are just furthering Voldemort’s cause, but they also don’t need employment. And Flammel… he’s had his fun and did retire haha

Well Lockhart wants to remain famous, it would be out of character for him to retirr and fade into obscurity

Plzzz make a video on this everyone comment so he will see it Was Voldemort poor how much money did he have or does no one know I've never heard anyway say if he had money or not

He was poor as a kid because in the pensieve scene in the half blood prince book Dumbledore tells Tom Riddle that there is a fund to help poor children with books etc. If you meant was he rich as an adult I think he didn't need money allthough he wanted a vault in gringotts because that was a status symbol that he was a wizard.

The Malfoy family was by far the richest in the wizarding world. They were essentially the equivalent of wizarding billionaires.

The richest person was that one dude who made the sorcerers stone. I'm pretty sure it can create gold, which he then could sell. He was also like 500 years old when harry destroyed the sorcerers stone. I think you know where I'm going with this.

Why do so many of the main cast for Harry Potter have zero interest in making another movie or show? Personally even if the did NOT want to do another movie a show involving Harry as the leader of the Aurors would be incredibly interesting especially if we had a 3rd great dark wizard show up as the big bad guy for the season finale; he'd rather do absolute garbage movies which is ridiculous.
